Doug Clement founded Construction Materials Testing in 2001. Since then, the company has become the premier testing laboratory in the state. CMT performs quality control testing, research, and engineering services for a wide variety of contractors, manufacturers, engineering firms, city, county, state, and national organizations. Our experience and expertise with Portland Cement Concrete (PCC), Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), aggregates, soils, and smoothness testing (profilometer) allow us to assist any project from design to completion.
Doug Clement's construction career began in 1988 when he worked with a geologist on soil surveys in Oklahoma. He then went to work as a lab technician at Standard Testing in Oklahoma City, eventually becoming the manager of Construction Testing. In 1995 he moved to the Des Moines, Iowa area and went to work for Patzig / Maxim Testing. In 2000 he was promoted to Division Manager.
In 2001 Mr. Clement opened Construction Materials Testing. In Des Moines, Iowa, after a buyout of Nady Engineering. He moved the company from Nevada, Iowa to Des Moines, in order to better serve his client base. Building relationships rather than simply seeking projects, he built CMT into a thriving entity. The company has grown significantly in 22 years and is now recognized as the premier construction testing lab in Iowa. CMT does business in Iowa and all surrounding states as well as Canada, Mexico, Germany and the Caribbean. The lab has become prominent in new product research in the concrete and asphalt industry over the last 9 years.
Doug has been certified in Concrete Testing, HMA testing, Soil Testing, Aggregate Testing and Steel Inspections. Mr. Clement utilizes his 35 years of experience in the construction field to lead CMT on a daily basis as the company president. He is married and has 3 sons.

Ryan Clement is the Operations Manager and partner in Construction Materials Testing, Inc. As the Operations Manager, Ryan oversees the daily operation of Construction Materials Testing, Inc. and the dispatching and scheduling of its civil engineer technicians. Ryan has been the Operations Manager since 2016. Before he became the Operations Manager in 2016, Ryan was a Civil Engineer Technician and was responsible for numerous quality control and quality acceptance testing on various projects around Iowa and the midwestern United States.
Prior to re-joining Construction Materials Testing, Inc. in 2011, Ryan was a member of the United States Armed Forces serving in the United States Army as a Combat Engineer stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas and served multiple combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq before being honorably discharged in 2012. Before Ryans military service, he was both an intern and a Civil Engineering Technician with Construction Materials Testing, Inc. from its conception to 2006.
Ryan has earned numerous certifications from the Iowa Department of Transportation and American Concrete Institute to include Soils Certifications, Portland Cement Concrete testing, Portland Cement Concrete mix designing, Hot Mix Asphalt testing and Hot Mix Asphalt mix designing, aggregate quality testing and road smoothness testing.

Sybil attended ISU from 2002-2007. She earned her BS in Civil Engineering in May 2006 and her MS in 2007 in Geotechnical Engineering. Sybil joined CMT in 2009, where she currently works as a Vice President / Principal Engineer. Sybil achieved her Iowa PE license in 2011. Since then, she has gained reciprocity in other heartland states, such as Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Illinois for licensure.
Sybil has served as a board of director member for the APAI and the Iowa Chapter of ACI. In the fall season, she teaches Soil Mechanics and Foundations at DMACC in Boone. Sybil resides in Maxwell, IA with her husband of 15 years and two children, ages 10 and 7. She enjoys golfing and gardening, along with vacations to Grand Cayman.
