Carrie Uebel - SVP, VP

Carrie Uebel, Vice President and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Compassus, has full responsibility for all compliance and ethics functions of the organization. After joining Compassus as compliance officer in 2015, she played a significant role in building the compliance program and managing its day-to-day operations. Previously, Uebel was compliance officer for American HomePatient for six years. Other experience includes legal assistant with the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Missouri and associate at Marsh Risk Consulting in Nashville. Uebel holds certification in Health Care Compliance from the Health Care Compliance Association. She has a law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law and a bachelor's degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Health Care Compliance Association, the American Health Lawyers Association. She is a past board member of Leadership Health Care and has served as a speaker several times at MedTrade, a home medical equipment conference.

David DeGumbia

David DeGumbia is Chief Development Officer for Compassus, leading all de novo, merger, acquisition, and joint venture development. DeGumbia also served as a vice president of operations for Healthsouth Corp. He started his career in private practice as a Physical Therapist.

David Grams - CEO

As CEO, David Grams is responsible for thoughtfully stewarding Compassus' growth as one the nation's leading providers of home health, infusion therapy, palliative and hospice care. Before joining Compassus in 2020, Grams was senior vice president at DaVita Healthcare Partners where he held several positions of increasing responsibility during his decade-long tenure. He most recently led company operations for a group of 800 clinics and 15,000 team members across 17 states and oversaw the team responsible for negotiating and managing more than 600 payor relationships. Grams' career prior to his time with DaVita was largely focused on private equity opportunities across a wide range of segments within health care. Grams holds two degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL; a master's degree in Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a bachelor's degree in Economics.

Jason Grant - CIO, SVP

Jason Grant is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Compassus. Grant is responsible for leading the IT function and managing all IT activities and resources, including the digital transformation at the organization. Grant previously served as the Senior Vice President and CIO at North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) where he completed a major digital transformation of the organization. He has more than 30 years of experience in leading business and technology initiatives and strategically transforming businesses with the appropriate use of technology. Grant holds an MBA from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Illinois.

Jeff Marsh is Compassus' Senior Vice President of Growth. He leads the company's organic and inorganic growth initiatives through product innovation, development, and marketing & communications. Marsh joined Compassus in 2017 as VP of Strategic Partnerships and quickly created a partnership strategy to identify, form and operate both regional and national partnerships aimed at helping Compassus achieve its mission of furthering transformative health care with like-minded health care organizations. He has more than 17 years of health care experience specializing in population health management programming spanning workplace wellness to post-acute care. Prior to Compassus, Marsh held multiple roles with Healthways Inc. to improve health and well-being for employers, government programs, health systems and health plans. Marsh has a bachelor's degree in Science and Nursing from the Medical University of Toledo, Ohio.

Kathy Winn - CMO, SVP

Kathy Winn is Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Compassus. Winn oversees all marketing programs, brand strategy and development of strategies to support growth initiatives utilizing an integrated approach to marketing and communications. Previously, Winn served as the vice president of strategic marketing at LifePoint Health, a diversified healthcare delivery network spanning 29 states, for more than seven years. Winn is a strategic, analytical, growth-oriented, creative marketing and communications leader with more than 25 years of strategic marketing and communications experience and more than 15 years in healthcare marketing at national organizations, including LifePoint Health, HCA Healthcare and Humana. Winn earned her undergraduate degree from Southeast Missouri State University and an MBA from Western Governor's University. She is a fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives. Winn also serves on the national board of directors for Women in Healthcare, the board of directors for Gilda's Club of Middle Tennessee and is a proud member of Chief, a private network focused on connecting and supporting women executive leaders.

Kurt Merkelz - SVP

Kurt Merkelz, M.D., is Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Compassus and has been in this role since 2017. He previously served as medical director for the Compassus program serving Houston and a member of the Compassus Medical Director Advisory Committee. Dr. Merkelz leads the company's quality and clinical initiatives, ensuring delivery of quality patient outcomes and increased access to end-of-life care across the communities Compassus serves. Throughout his career, Merkelz has focused on caring for older adults. His perseverance in raising industry benchmarks for quality hospice care earned him the Compassus R. Sean Morrison, M.D., Award for Outstanding Achievement in Hospice Physician Leadership in 2012. He is currently serving a third term as co-chair for the National Quality Forum (NQF)'s Measure Applications Partnership (MAP) post-acute workgroup. Dr. Merkelz pioneering work in standardized care delivery garnered Compassus national recognition by NQF in 2020. Merkelz serves on several national organization committees including AAHPM, AMDA, and NHPCO. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center and completed residencies in family medicine and geriatric medicine at the University of Cincinnati. Following his residency at the University of Cincinnati, he became assistant director of the international health program and assistant professor in geriatric medicine. Merkelz is triple-board certified in hospice and palliative care medicine, family practice and geriatrics.

Laura Templeton - COO, EVP

As Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, Laura Templeton leads the operations of all of our service lines, including Hospice, Home Health, Infusion, and Palliative Care. Joining Compassus in 2012, she has held roles that include chief clinical operations officer, hospice division president, managing clinical director, executive director, director of operations and regional vice president of operations. Templeton's natural leadership skills and operational experience, combined with her nursing background, drive excellence across the enterprise to benefit patients and families that receive our care. Prior to joining Compassus, Templeton worked at various health centers near Jefferson City, Missouri, most recently serving as the director of maternal child health, ICU, telemetry and cardiac short stay at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri. She obtained an MBA in Health Care from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri.

Russ Adkins was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer in 2020, having joined Compassus as senior vice president and general counsel in 2013. He provides the organization with counsel on health care, regulatory, strategic transactions, operational and corporate governance matters. Adkins has nearly 20 years of experience in general corporate and business matters, mergers and acquisitions and health law. Previously he was vice president, legal, for M*Modal Inc., a leading global outsource provider of clinical documentation technology and services. He served as associate general counsel and then vice president, legal, for Spheris Inc. Prior to moving in-house, Adkins practiced law for private firms located in Boulder, Colorado, and Nashville, Tennessee. Adkins received a master's degree in Law from New York University School of Law and completed his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Louisville School of Law.
