Alexandria McGovern

Alexandria has been working at Dermatology Associates since March 2018. She is a Winchester native who has returned to her home town to practice medical dermatology. She received her BS from Fairfield University and went on to graduate with a Masters in Physician Assistant studies from Tufts School of Medicine. Alex is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Amy Akland

Amy Akland is a certified physician assistant and has worked in Dermatology Associates' Melrose office since 2008. Born in Boston, Amy lived for several years in Vermont before returning to the area to study and practice medicine. She lives with her husband and two children in Melrose. Amy holds a BA in environmental studies from the University of Vermont, and a BS and MS in physician assistant studies from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

Benjamin Solky

Dr. Solky received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. He subsequently completed his dermatology residency at the Harvard Medical School in 2004. Dr. Solky is fellowship-trained in dermatologic surgery, Mohs surgery, and reconstruction and he received this training at the Mayo Clinic in 2005. Dr. Solky is board certified in dermatology. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. He has taught Mohs surgery and reconstruction as a faculty member of the Department of Dermatology at the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Solky's clinical interests at Dermatology Associates are general dermatology and Mohs surgery.

Catherine Formosi

Cathy graduated from the Boston University School of Nursing in 1986. She began her nursing career at the University Hospital, now known as Boston Medical Center. In 1991 she joined one of the first laser centers in the country at University Hospital in Boston. After working with leading laser physicians for nine years she came to Dermatology Associates to develop their laser program. Catherine has performed thousands of laser treatments for hair removal, tattoo removal, Rosacea treatment, birthmark removal, sun spot removal and facial capillary removal. She is known for her extensive laser experience (21+ years), patient education and honesty.

David Taub

David Taub M.D. received his undergraduate degree in physics from Harvard University, his medical degree from Columbia University, and his residency training in dermatology from Boston University. He currently sees patients for general dermatologic problems. Having joined Dermatology Associates in 2012, Dr. Taub brings thirty-five years of experience from his own dermatology practice in Medford.

Dr. Alexandra Price

Dr. Alexandra Price graduated cum laude with a degree in art history from the University of Pennsylvania. She subsequently earned a Master of Science degree in complementary and alternative medicine at Georgetown University. Dr. Price earned her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed her dermatology training at the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology & Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Price's research has focused on evidence-based complementary and integrative therapies for skin health. She has authored many peer-reviewed publications and has presented both nationally and internationally at professional educational meetings including the American Medical Women's Association Conference, the Integrative Dermatology Symposium and the Hair, Nail and Anti-Aging Symposium. She is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Price specializes in cosmetic and medical dermatology. Her clinical interests include facial rejuvenation with an emphasis on natural aesthetic results, skin aging, acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and skin cancer. She is fluent in English and Spanish.

Dr. Suzanne Virnelli

Dr. Suzanne Virnelli graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College and then attended Duke University School of Medicine with a four-year merit scholarship. After an internship in medicine at Beth Israel Hospital, she was a research fellow at the Cutaneous Biology Research Center for two years. She then completed her dermatology residency at the Harvard Dermatology Program, where she served as Chief Resident. She has worked as a dermatologist at Children's Hospital Boston, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Dermatology Associates in Winchester. She currently serves as Chief of Dermatology at Winchester Hospital. Her specialty is pediatric dermatology.

Jane Danahy

Jane Danahy has worked at Dermatology Associates for the past ten years. Prior to that she worked in academic settings at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI and at Roger Williams Hospital in Providence, RI. She completed dermatology residency at the Tufts-Boston University program, where she was chief resident. Her undergraduate degree is from Harvard, her medical degree from Boston University.

Jeanne King

Jeanne King joined Dermatology Associates in 1998. She received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees from Regis College, Weston, MA. She is a graduate of the Regis College Family Nurse Practitioner Program. Continuing her education and interest in diseases of the skin, she completed a post-graduate Fellowship in Dermatology for Nurse Practitioners at Lahey Clinic, Burlington, MA. in 2007. She is an active member in several professional organizations, including Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, New England Dermatology Society and Dermatology Nurses Association for Nurse Practitioners.

Joshua D. Shofner

Joshua D. Shofner, M.D. is a board-certified dermatologist practicing at Mass General Hospital and Dermatology Associates. Dr. Shofner graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. He received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. While at Yale, he completed the Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship in the immunology of cutaneous lymphoma and published several peer-reviewed articles in this field. Following graduation from medical school, he completed an internship in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and a residency in dermatology at the Harvard combined Residency Program at Mass General. After his residency , Dr. Shofner went on to complete a Laser and Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship at Mass General Hospital. Dr. Shofner continues to be involved in several ongoing clinical trials. He has published peer-reviewed articles in laser and cosmetic surgery and has presented at national and international meetings. His main clinical interests are Cosmetic Dermatology, Laser Surgery, Non-invasive fat removal, Soft Tissue Fillers, Vascular lesions, Tattoo removal, Dermatologic surgery, Sclerotherapy, Tissue tightening, and Botulinum injections (Botox).

Robert J. O'Brien Jr.

Dr. Robert O'Brien graduated summa cum laude Phi Beta Kappa from Tufts University and received his medical degree from Tufts Medical School. He completed his residency at the Tufts-Boston University program. Dr. O'Brien is a board certified dermatologist and was the chief of Dermatology at Winchester Hospital from 1998 to 2011. He started Dermatology Associates in 1992, and since then he has built a team of experienced professionals including eight dermatologists, two dermatologic surgeons, a laser physician, three physician assistants, two nurse practitioners, and a laser nurse. Besides overseeing this team, his clinical focus is in general dermatology and cosmetic dermatological procedures. Dr. O'Brien is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Medical Society and the Massachusetts Medical Society.

Thomas Rohrer

Dr. Rohrer is a magna cum laude graduate of Georgetown University and the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Yale University Hospital and a residency in dermatology at the combined Boston University-Tufts University program. He completed a Mohs and Dermatologic Surgery fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Rohrer is one of the nation's leading experts in both cosmetic and surgical dermatology. Dr. Rohrer has published extensively in a wide variety of dermatologic and cosmetic surgery journals and is an editor of five textbooks on surgical and cosmetic dermatology. He is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. He has been elected to the board of the prestigious American College of Mohs Surgery, the Association of Academic Dermatologic Surgeons, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the American Academy of Dermatology.
