Dr. Gary B. Carr

Dr. Gary B. Carr, widely recognized as the "Father of Microscopic Endodontics," began practicing endodontics in San Diego in 1982. He received his A.B. from Cornell University in 1969. Dr. Carr served in Vietnam in the U.S. Navy from 1970-72 as a Line Officer aboard the USS Coral Sea. He received his dental degree at SUNYAB (Buffalo, NY) in 1976 and his specialty endodontic training at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1982. He is a diplomate of AAE. In addition to introducing the microscope to dentistry, he also developed the ultrasonic root end preparation technique used by all endodontists today. In conjunction with this, he invented the ultrasonic tips, microscopic mirrors, microscopic dental instruments and specialized camera adapters for the microscope. Dr. Carr is the author of over 40 articles on endodontics and has authored two chapters in Pathways of the Pulp, the foremost publication in endodontics. Dr. Carr maintains a private practice in San Diego, California. He resides with his wife and son in Rancho Santa Fe, California.
