The Georgetown County Board of Disabilities & Special Needs was created by state legislation and county ordinance to provide services to people with disabilities and special needs in Georgetown County... The Georgetown County Board of Disabilities & Special Needs was established in 1986 by county ordinance. This governmental board succeeded the not-for-profit Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) that first provided local services to children and adults with mental retardation in Georgetown County during the 1960s and 70s... We are a certified, licensed provider and, as such, receive routine independent reviews of how we perform in-service delivery to the people we serve. We routinely score very well on independent reviews, and that data is published on SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs‘ website.
