Dr. Ali A. Berry, M.D. joined our Canton location on July 5, 2006.
Dr. Berry received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan in 1998 and went on to earn his medical degree with high academic distinction from the Wayne State School of Medicine in 2002. He finished his post-graduate training as the Chief Resident of Dermatology at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Berry is also the winner of the 2011 Patients' Choice Award.
Dr. Berry specializes in the treatment of skin cancer, rashes, warts, moles, eczema, acne, and psoriasis as well as the use of laser therapy, Botox® injections, chemical peels, Restylane®, vein treatment, and skin and nail surgery.
Alicia Scopis, PA-C joined our practice in October of 2020. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in 2013 and a Master of Science in Medicine in 2019. Serving as an Orthopedic Specialist in the Army Reserve, Alicia gained hands-on experience treating patients while utilizing her skills and training. Working as a Medical Assistant at Dermatology Specialists of Shelby for two years, she assisted in general dermatology, Mohs surgery, and cosmetic procedures. We are happy to have her back on the team as a Physician Assistant. Alicia loves spending time with her daughter and horseback riding in her free time. She looks forward to meeting and treating you at our Dermatology Specialists of Shelby location.
Andrea Rosik, M.S., P.A.-C. is board-certified Physician Assistant, by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and licensed in Michigan since 2004. Andrea received her Bachelor of Science degree with a specialization in Health and Humanities from Michigan State University and earned her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies with high honors from Wayne State University in 2004. Prior to specializing in dermatology, she practiced hospital-based internal medicine, treating routine to life-threatening medical disorders. Her practice philosophy is to provide medical care delivered with the highest ethical standards, compassion and reliability. She is devoted to treating her patients' medical, pediatric, surgical and cosmetic dermatology concerns. Andrea is the Vice President of MIDPA Michigan Dermatology of Physician Assistants. In 2018, she was voted Michigan Dermatology PA of the year by her peers.
Ashley Carriveau, M.S., P.A.-C., is a board-certified Physician Assistant specializing in dermatology who has been with our office since 2014. Her interests include general dermatology for all ages.
Ashley graduated magna cum laude from University of Detroit Mercy with her Bachelor of Science and completed the physician assistant program at Wayne State University. She did her clinical rotations in various hospitals and clinics in downtown Detroit and her elective rotation in Dermatology at various Hamzavi Dermatology clinics. She is licensed in the State of Michigan and certified through the NCCPA. She is ACLS and BLS certified. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
Ashley was born and raised in the metro Detroit area, where she currently resides. She is happy to serve patients in multiple locations.
Dr. Adam Chahine is a board-certified dermatologist with special interests in skin cancer surgery, cosmetic surgery, and complex medical dermatology. Dr. Chahine graduated summa cum laude from The University of Michigan, and subsequently received a scholarship to attend Wayne State University School of Medicine where he completed his medical doctorate. He spent one year completing his medical internship at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan, then moved to Florida to complete the remainder of his dermatology training at Mercer University. He specializes in skin cancer treatment and has had rigorous surgical training with a special focus on facial plastics and reconstruction.
Dr. Chahine also performs cosmetic surgeries such as blepharoplasties, brow lifts, and lip lifts. He has advanced training in cosmetic fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra etc.) as well as neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomen, Juveau). Dr. Chahine has also had extensive training in complex medical dermatology, with experience managing a wide variety of diseases including bullous dermatoses, autoimmune diseases, and systemic inflammatory dermatoses.
Dr. Chahine has authored numerous medical journal articles and book chapters.
Outside his work in dermatology, Dr. Chahine enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Chahine is currently accepting new patients at the Fort Gratiot and Clinton Township offices.
Dr. Alan Fligiel trained in New York where he completed medical school at the State University of New York followed by a residency in otolaryngology at New York University. After serving in the U. S. Navy at a regional naval hospital as chief of EENT and then practicing in California, Dr. Fligiel decided to pursue training in dermatology. He completed his dermatology residency at Wayne State University in 1984. Since that time he has continued to teach dermatology at Wayne State University where he is a Clinical Associate Professor. He practiced as a board certified dermatologist at his own office for nearly thirty years. Dr. Fligiel enjoys seeing people of all ages and seeks to help them manage the entire range of skin problems. He looks forward to meeting you at our Brighton location.
Dr. Andrea Schrieber, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist, joined our practice in September 2010. She specializes in diseases of the skin, hair and nails for all ages. Dr. Schrieber graduated with highest distinction from the University of Michigan in 2002 and Wayne State University School of Medicine in 2006. She subsequently completed her internship at Oakwood Hospital and her residency in dermatology at Wayne State University. Dr. Schrieber has participated in dermatological research as well as lectured at local and national scientific meetings.
Dr. Schrieber has acquired extensive experience in treating skin diseases in an ethnically diverse patient population. She enjoys treating the full spectrum of dermatological problems, from acne to skin cancer and everything in between. Dr. Schrieber also has a special interest in procedures such as skin surgery, phototherapy, chemical peels and Botox.
Dr. Schrieber is truly a local girl, completing kindergarten through residency in the metro Detroit area. She currently makes her home in Livonia with her husband and young daughter. Dr. Schrieber is excited to meet you at our Dermatology Specialists of Canton facility.
Dr. Arthur Gulick joined Hamzavi Dermatology August 1, 2018 after serving the Plymouth and surrounding communities in his solo practice for over twenty years.
Dr. Gulick earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan in 1970. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and is a board-certified dermatologist. He obtained additional training in San Francisco, CA and Louisville, KY and has served as a U.S. Army Medical Officer. He specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions of the hair, skin and nails. Dr. Gulick enjoys treating patients of all ages and skin types.
In his free time Dr. Gulick sings in Ann Arbor's UMS Choral Union and volunteers his time in service clubs. He was born and raised in the Plymouth-Canton area and looks forward to continuing to serve his community.
Dr. Bryan Sofen is excited to join the growing team of renowned dermatologists caring for patients at Hamzavi Dermatology. Having trained at two of the top three Dermatology programs in the country, Dr. Sofen is excited to bring complete care to his patients medically, surgically, and cosmetically.
After growing up in the metro Detroit area, Dr. Sofen graduated with honors from the University of Michigan w and earned his MD at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at Weill Cornell New York Presbyterian Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before his residency in Dermatology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, serving as the Chief Resident his final year. He subsequently completed a much sought after a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery, Cutaneous Oncology, and Cosmetic dermatology at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). At UCSF, working together with top cosmetic dermatologists and plastic surgeons, Dr. Sofen honed his surgical skills and his cosmetic acumen in order to treat all aesthetic concerns, gaining expertise with Botox, fillers, and laser procedures.
Dr. Sofen is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Sofen is the author of numerous scientific publications, has lectured at many international meetings, and is the author of over a dozen textbook chapters.
Dr. Sofen also completed a highly specialized Dermatopharmacology fellowship at New York University (NYU), running their clinical trial unit and help to investigate new treatment options for both medical and aesthetic dermatologic conditions. Work by Dr. Sofen directly led to the approval of several new medical and cosmetic medications. He has also spent time conducting research in Dermatology at Yale, Northwestern, and UCLA.
Dr. Caitlin Porubsky earned her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University before completing her medical degree at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. Porubsky began her training with a Traditional Rotating Internship at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. During her training, she pursued a Research Fellowship at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. This fellowship was in cutaneous oncology with a focus on melanoma. She then completed a dermatology residency through Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Roswell, Georgia, serving as Chief Resident her senior year.
Her mission is to provide each of her patients with high quality, personalized and compassionate care for all their dermatology needs. She has interests in skin cancer prevention and treatment, specifically surgical dermatology, along with general medical and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Porubsky has been published in prestigious medical journals and contributed to textbook chapters.
Dr. Porubsky was born and raised in Plymouth, Michigan before leaving for medical school and training. She is excited to be back home! She enjoys spending time with family, especially her husband and their Golden Retriever, Harper. She loves traveling, skiing, wake surfing, and hiking.
Dr. Chelsea Luther is honored to join such a fabulous team at Dermatology Specialist of Canton and Hamzavi Dermatology. She was born in Southfield, MI and raised in Michigan. She obtained her undergraduate degrees in Biosystems and Biomedical Engineering from Michigan State University. After completing a year of skin cancer research in Cambridge, MA, Dr. Luther graduated with honors from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids, MI. During her time in medical school, she researched melanoma and melanoma treatments. She completed her medicine internship at Beaumont Hospital. Dr. Luther received robust training in medical, surgical, pediatric and cosmetic dermatology from dermatologist leaders through the Henry Ford Health System for her dermatology residency. She has won awards for her teaching and presentation skills as well as attended special conferences for psoriasis, pediatrics, surgery and cosmetics. Dr. Luther is a proud member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. She has presented nationally and internationally and has published in prestigious dermatology and cancer medical journals as well as contributed to textbook chapters. On a personal note, her husband is also from Michigan, and they have a one year old daughter and an English Bulldog. Dr. Luther loves treating all skin, hair and nail conditions and looks forward to meeting her new patients.
Dr. Cynthia Chow, M.D. is a board-certified dermatologist and joined our group in February, 2018.
Dr. Chow went to University of Michigan for pre-med and graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine with honors. Following an internship at Harper Hospital, she completed a dermatology residence at Henry Ford Hospital.
Dr. Chow joined Hamzavi Dermatology in February, 2018 after being in solo practice in Rochester Hills, Michigan for many years.
Her practice focuses on general dermatology. She looks forward to meeting you at the Clinton Township location.
Dr. Fatima Fahs is a born and raised Michigan native. She graduated with honors as a MedStart scholar from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science in biology and a minor in art. Dr. Fahs went on to attend Oakland University William Beaumont School on a full-ride scholarship where she earned her medical doctorate. She completed her medicine internship at Beaumont Hospital and her dermatology residency at Wayne State University, serving as Chief Resident in her final year. Dr. Fahs practices medical, cosmetic and surgical dermatology. She has a particular interest in skincare and product formulation, researching the efficacy of over the counter cosmeceuticals. Dr. Fahs is excited to be accepting patients at the Dermatology Specialists of Canton and Livonia locations!

Dr. Jennifer Rivard, M.D., is a board certified dermatologist who received her medical school training from the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX. She went on to complete her residency in dermatology and phototherapy fellowship in 2007 at the Henry Ford Department of Dermatology. She received excellent academic accolades along with experience treating a wide range of dermatological needs and concerns. Her special interests are dermatopathology, skin psoriasis and phototherapy.
In addition to her treating skin concerns and diseases she is also a dermatopathologist formally trained through a dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Department Of Pathology. She takes in combination with her clinical knowledge, experience, making her uniquely capable of giving her patients comprehensive care with her ability to read and prepare slides of the biopsies.
Dr. Rivard is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology. She currently resides in West Bloomfield and is looking forward to meeting with you at the Clinton Township office.
Dr. Jordan Talia is a board-certified dermatologist who earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan. He subsequently completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of California San Diego and his dermatology residency at the University of Michigan. He went on to complete his fellowship in complex medical dermatology from the Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
He has won an award for his excellence in the teaching of medical students during his dermatology residency at the University of Michigan. He has co-authored articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented numerous lectures in the field of dermatology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Katherine Fontichiaro completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Michigan, and earned her Medical Doctorate at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, graduating with distinction. She completed her intern year at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI, and her residency in Dermatology at Wayne State University, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year of training.
Dr. Fontichiaro is a Board-Certified Dermatologist, and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD). She has clinical interests in medical, pediatric, and general dermatology, and aims to contribute to the well-being of her patients through thoughtful and effective dermatologic care.

Dr. Leonard Aronovitz, a practicing physician and surgeon for over 30 years, has devoted 100% of the past 23 years to hair transplant surgery, performing thousands of procedures utilizing the small graft technique. Dr. Aronovitz has also been listed in The Best Doctors in America since 1996.
As a member of our surgical team, Dr. Aronovitz performs several hundred hair transplant surgeries each year. Dr. Aronovitz was in private medical practice from 1969 -1994, specializing in general medicine/general surgery. Also through 1974 - 1994, he was a Professor of Family Medicine at Michigan State University. Dr. Aronovitz now limits his practice to Hair Transplant Surgery. He regularly attends medical forums where other experts in the field also gather to exchange the latest data on the continuing advancement of hair replacement technology. His memberships include the American Academy of Hair Restoration Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association, Oakland County Osteopathic Association, Michigan Association Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and Phi Sigma Alpha - American Scholastic: Honor Society.
A Michigan native, Dr. Maria Yaldo graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Wayne State University in Detroit. She continued on at Wayne State University School of Medicine to earn her medical degree where she graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Her formal training included an internship year at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn followed by dermatology residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago where she served as chief resident her senior year.
Throughout her professional career, Dr. Yaldo has written numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and has authored book chapters in dermatology textbooks. She has presented at dermatological society meetings and remains active as a member of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Marsha Henderson graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She then went on to medical school at the University of Michigan and completed her internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor. Dr. Henderson performed her dermatology residency training at Henry Ford Hospital. In addition to residency, she performed a two year fellowship in clinical research at Henry Ford Hospital, with a special focus in vitiligo, hidradenitis suppurativa, phototherapy and ethnic skin. She continues to teach residents as a staff member at Henry Ford Hospital.
Dr. Henderson has interests in general dermatology, hair disorders, vitiligo, ethnic skin and hidradenitis suppurativa. She is also well versed in surgical and cosmetic dermatology. She continues to work in clinical research and has presented and national and international meetings.
Dr. Nada Macaron, M.D., is a board certified dermatologist who received her medical school training from the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon. She went on to complete her residency in Anatomical pathology at Emory University School of medicine. She received excellent academic accolades along with. She has held faculty positions at various medical institutes and medical centers.
She is a dermatopathologist formally trained through a dermatopathology fellowship in 2004 at the Mayo clinic college of medicine. She is currently our consultant dermatopathologist and lab director at Hamzavi Dermatology where she reads and prepare slides of the biopsies.
Dr. Reema Habra was born in Dublin, Ireland before being raised in Troy, Michigan. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from The University of Michigan, double majoring in Neuroscience and Arabic, with a minor in medical anthropology. Dr. Habra went on to attend Wayne State University for her medical training, where she achieved multiple academic and clinical honors. She completed her medical internship at Ascension Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills, subsequently completing her dermatology residency at Wayne State University. Dr. Habra is trained in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology with a particular interest in detection and treatment of dermatological cancers and management of complex medical dermatological conditions. She also has a wealth of experience in treating patients of all ages and skin types. Dr. Habra is proud to join the Hamzavi group and is excited to accept patients at the Clinton Township and Fort Gratiot offices.
Dr. Sakeena Fatima is a born and raised Michigan native. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Dr. Fatima also received her medical doctorate from Wayne State University, graduating with numerous honors, including as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her medicine internship at Ascension Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills, MI before moving to Cleveland, Ohio to complete her dermatology training at Case Western Reserve/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
Dr. Fatima is a board-certified dermatologist with extensive training in medical, cosmetic, and dermatologic surgery. She has a special focus in medical dermatology including complex medical dermatology, bullous diseases, supportive oncodermatology, autoimmune diseases, and inflammatory diseases.
Dr. Fatima is honored to join Dermatology Specialists of Canton and is excited to see patients beginning on September 19, 2022.
Dr. Shivani Patel graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and minor in Statistics. Dr. Patel received her medical doctorate from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, graduating with honors, including as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her medicine internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI before completing her dermatology training at Henry Ford Hospital.
Dr. Patel is a board-certified dermatologist with extensive training in medical dermatology and enjoys caring for adult and pediatric patients.
She resides in Ann Arbor with her husband and daughter and is excited to be joining Dermatology Specialists of Ann Arbor.
Elizabeth White, M.S., P.A.-C. graduated in 2010 Summa Cum Laude from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Following graduation, she worked as a nurse at Troy Beaumont for about 4 years. She started as a nurse on a progressive care unit but spent most of her nursing career as a nurse on the labor and delivery unit.
Elizabeth graduated from Wayne State's PA program with Master of Science degree in May 2016, with the honor of being inducted into Pi Alpha, the National Honor Society for Physician Assistants. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants and Michigan Dermatology Physician Assistants. Elizabeth looks forward to seeing you at the Shelby office.
Evelyn Sommariva, M.S., P.A.-C. (certified Physician Assistant), has worked in our Canton office since 2008.
Evelyn graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Wayne State University. Sommariva is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. She is state-licensed and certified by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants).
She is happy to be serving the needs of patients at our Canton facility.
Jason Hui, PA-C., is a board certified Physician Assistant who has been specializing in Dermatology since 2002.
Jason attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999. He then furthered his career after successfully completing a didactic course and receiving a Master's Degree from Central Michigan University. While in practice, he aided in the training of Dermatology residents between 2003-2014. He frequently gave lectures to Family Practice and Internal Medicine residents, who would then shadow him during office hours. Jason also has participated in multiple research studies with a focus on psoriasis. His interests include general dermatology, but also specializes in benign and malignant surgical treatments.
Jason has lived in the Brighton area since 2003 and looks forward to helping to serve the communities dermatological needs
Jason will also have early morning hours starting at 7am on Mondays and Fridays and evening hours extending to 7pm on Thursdays.
Jennifer Marie-Reiss Gangnier, M.S., P.A.-C., is a board-certified Physician Assistant and has been practicing dermatology in Michigan since 2007. Reiss received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan in 2003. She completed her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Wayne State University in 2007.
Jennifer has been board-certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and has been licensed since 2007. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Michigan Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Jennifer is excited to see you at our Brighton location.
Jennifer Marlin, M.S., P.A.-C. (certified Physician Assistant), has been helping patients with Hamzavi Dermatology since 1998.
Jennifer graduated magna cum laude from Saginaw State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, which included an elective clinical rotation in dermatology from Wayne State University. Prior to becoming a Physician Assistant, Jennifer worked for eight years as a Medical Assistant in the field of dermatology.
Jennifer is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is licensed through the Michigan State Board of Medical Examiners. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. As a Physician Assistant who has received specialized training in dermatology, Jennifer is licensed and qualified to perform a comprehensive dermatological examination and diagnosis and prescribe appropriate medical therapy as treatment for patients' dermatologic needs.

Jessica J. McLeod, M.S.N., FNP-BC., is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner practicing dermatology in our Fort Gratiot facility. Jessica received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Oakland University in 2007, and graduated cum laude from Oakland University with a Master of Science degree in Nursing in 2011.
Jessica has been board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the Dermatology Nurses' Association. Jessica is licensed and qualified to perform a comprehensive dermatological examination, diagnose dermatological conditions, and prescribe an appropriate treatment plan for patients' dermatological needs.

Joan Rindler, M.D. is the founding member of Rindler & Reddy Dermatology. She is a board-certified dermatologist with experience in treating adult and pediatric skin conditions. She has worked as a general dermatologist for most of her career, and has a special interest in skin cancer screening and prevention. She also has expertise in treating acne, warts, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. She has worked in the field of dermatology for over 20 years, and has been in private practice in Ann Arbor since 2004.
Dr. Rindler obtained her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, graduating with high honors in 1990. She completed her Dermatology training at University of Cincinnati Medical Center in 1994. She has worked for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, as well as the Henry Ford Medical Group. Dr. Rindler is on staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Rindler holds membership in many organizations, including American Academy of Dermatology, American Medical Association, Michigan Dermatological Society, and Michigan State Medical Society.
Dr. Fontana is a board certified dermatologist who received her Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University in Biological Sciences where she graduated summa cum laude. She earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 2008. She completed a two-year research fellowship at Northwestern University/Feinberg School of Medicine at the Department of Dermatology where she participated in dermatological research. Dr. Fontana then returned to Michigan to complete her post-graduate training in Dermatology at Wayne State University.
Dr. Fontana has achieved honors in many clinical areas during her academic studies. Her special areas of interests are psoriasis, general dermatology and offers a variety of cosmetic procedures including laser treatment, chemical peels, fillers and Botox.
Kimberly E. Simons, M.S., P.A.-C., is a board-certified Physician Assistant and has been helping patients at Dermatology Specialists of Canton since 2007. Prior to becoming a Physician Assistant, Kimberly worked for six years as a Medical Assistant at Dermatology Specialists and is very familiar with the medical, surgical and cosmetics aspects of dermatology.
Kimberly received her Bachelors degree from Central Michigan University in 2006. She completed her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies at University of Toledo in 2015.
She is a member of the American Association of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and Michigan Dermatology Physician Assistants. Kimberly is excited to see you at our Hamzavi Canton Dermatology location.
Rhiannon Bailey, a licensed and NCCPA certified Physician Assistant, has been helping patients at Dermatology Specialists of Canton since 2021.
Rhiannon received her Bachelor's degree from Oakland University and her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Wayne State University.
She is a member of the American Association of Physician Assistants, Michigan Association of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and the Michigan Dermatology Physician Assistants organizations.
Rhiannon is a native to the metro Detroit area, growing up in Rochester Hills. In her free time, she enjoys attending concerts, creating music, Zumba, and her golden doodle Theodore.
Dr. Syed Latafat Husain Hamzavi, devoted husband of Aquela Hamzavi, father of Iltefat, Fasahat, and Asra Hamzavi, passed away in the early morning hours of January 15, 2022. Dr. Latafat Hamzavi was born in Aurungabad, India in 1940 and graduated from Nizam College in Hyderabad, India. He went on to pursue his medical education at Liaquat Medical School in Hyderabad, Pakistan and then completed his dermatology training at the University of Glasgow in Scotland, UK. There he pursued his passion for research and completed his PhD on the use of zinc for the treatment of leg ulcers. Dr. Hamzavi always recalled with fondness how the British dermatology community embraced him despite the prevailing ethnic biases of the time. He married Dr. Aquela Ali Hamzavi in 1969. In 1977, they relocated to Detroit, Michigan to work with Dr. Herman Pinkus to develop the Contact Dermatitis Unit. In 1980, he started his full-time academic practice at Wayne State University. He was one of the first South Asian and Muslim physicians to become an American Board of Dermatology-certified physician. Dr. Hamzavi and his wife started Hamzavi Dermatology in Port Huron, Michigan. This office went on to become the founding practice of Hamzavi Dermatology and Dermatology Specialists with many partner physicians and sites across southeast Michigan. Dr. Hamzavi's deep appreciation for the humanities gave him a unique leadership style and prompted his philanthropic support for the Pinkus Chair and the Aronson lectureship at Wayne State University, The Henry Lim research Chair at Henry Ford Hospital, and medical student scholarships at The University of Michigan. Throughout his career, Dr. Hamzavi steadfastly continued his weekly commitment to Wayne State and retired as a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Wayne State University. He was a long time member of the AAD and the Michigan Dermatologic Society.
Dr. Hamzavi cared deeply about his patients and staff alike, following his beloved wife, Aquela's, lead in treating his staff like family. To his three children, he was a loving father with high expectations and a ready smile. His son, Iltefat Hamzavi, is a highly published and passionate academician at Henry Ford while also serving as the physician liaison and partner for Hamzavi Dermatology and Dermatology Specialists. Dr. Hamzavi's other son, Fasahat, is triple boarded in procedural dermatology, pediatric dermatology, and general dermatology, and leads the Fort Gratiot office and is also a partner in the group. Latafat's daughter, Asra, is a psychiatrist with a focus on ADHD. In addition to his career and philanthropic activities, Dr. Hamzavi was proud of his Indian and Pakistani heritage and served on the boards of various cultural organizations, including APPNA, The Pakistani American Association, and was a member of the Indian medical group, AAPI. He also led the weekend Islamic school activities at the IAGD mosque in Rochester Michigan. An avid Urdu poet, he participated in numerous literary events. In addition to these accomplishments, he was a man of deep religious conviction who believed in an inclusive world. He was generous to all and always sought to improve himself.
Funeral services for Dr. Latafat Hamzavi were held at the IAGD Mosque at 865 West Auburn Road, Rochester Hills Michigan on January 17, 2022 at 2pm EST.

Sara Hayes, M.S., PA-C graduated from Hope College with her degree in biology and psychology in 2013. Following graduation, she started PA school at Central Michigan University. She graduated from CMU in 2015 and began her career working in family medicine. Sara has always had a passion for dermatology; in fact, it is what drove her passion to pursue her degree in medicine.
Sara is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants, and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Sara looks forward to seeing you at the Canton office.

Sherren White is a board-certified Physician Assistant that has been practicing Dermatology since 2003. She graduated from the Honors College at Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences in 2001. She continued at GVSU to earn her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2003. She started practice in Lansing in 2003 and moved to Detroit in October 2015. She was honored to join the Dermatology Specialists team in 2022.
Sherren is passionate about practicing both medical and cosmetic dermatology. She provides a full range of dermatology services including the treatment of all types of skin conditions, laser surgery, dermatologic surgery, and cosmetic procedures.
Sherren is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and Michigan Dermatology Physician Assistants.
Outside of the office, Sherren enjoys spending time with her husband Matt, traveling, cooking, boating, skiing, and SCUBA diving. Sherren is an avid Detroit Lions fan and has held season tickets for many years. She also owns and loves to drive her classic American muscle car.
Stephanie Smilo, MSN, AGACNP-BC is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner. She joined Dermatology Specialists of Canton in 2022. She has a Bachelors in Psychology from Wayne State University, a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from University of Detroit Mercy, and a Master's of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Stephanie worked as an ICU nurse starting in 2009 and then began practicing as a Nurse Practitioner in 2017. She has worked in different areas including hospitalist medicine and internal medicine before starting her focus on dermatology in 2020.
Stephanie is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is a member of the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners, the Society of Dermatology Nurse Practitioners, and American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She focuses on general medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.
Stephanie was born and raised in the metro Detroit area. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing tennis, and working out. She has a passion for helping people. Stephanie is available to care for your dermatological needs at the Dermatology Specialists of Canton location.
Thomas Powell Waldinger, M.D. has been a practicing dermatologist since 1985. He specializes in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer and geriatric dermatology.
Dr. Waldinger earned his Bachelor of Science degree with High Distinction from the University of Michigan. Dr. Waldinger received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his residency at the University of Michigan Department of Dermatology.
Dr. Waldinger is the author or co-author of 10 peer-reviewed publications in the field of dermatology. He is also the author of three books.
His honors include, graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Michigan in 1976 and being named a Paul Harris fellow, Dearborn Rotary Club, in 1986. Dr. Waldinger has been selected by his peers to be included in The Best Doctors of America® from 1996 through 2020.
Dr. Waldinger received the Arnold P Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award in 2012. He is one of eight dermatologists in the nation to receive this award. The American Academy of Dermatology wrote this about Dr. Waldinger: "His peers indicate that he is a role model for compassion, honesty, integrity, respect, dignity, diversity, and selfless dedication to excellence.
