Jack David Sturgill (93) longtime resident of Harrison, ID passed away at his home on August 7, 2023. He was born to David and Helen Sturgill on October 14, 1929, in Tekoa, WA. Jack grew up in Farmington and graduated from high school there with the class of 1946. Following high school, Jack enlisted into the U.S. Navy where he made a career for 25 years. He started as a Photographers Mate and worked his way up as an Engineer Officer retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in 1973. When he was stationed in Saigon, he met the love of his life Janice Louton. The couple married on August 17, 1973, in Coeur d' Alene, ID and made their home in Harrison. The couple had 2 children, and Jack farmed for himself. He later worked as a contract farmer where he would stay near Oakesdale, WA for a couple months during the spring and then in the fall. Janice would load their children up in the car and take the trip to see him once a week during the busy seasons. Jack finally officially retired for a second time when he was in his late 70's. In his younger days, Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing, and really enjoyed being very close to the lake. He possessed a green thumb and could grow the best tomatoes around. As he grew older, he enjoyed keeping his mind sharp with crosswords and jig saw puzzles. Janice was always volunteering for things in her community, Jack supported her and the community. He was talented with a hammer, and helped build several buildings that helped the Harrison community. Back in the day the Gazette Record used to give a "Good Neighbor" award, which Jack was the proud recipient of. Jack is survived by his children David Sturgill, Mike Sturgill, and Denise Sturgill all of Florida, Jon (Jessica) Sturgill of San Diego, and Joel Sturgill of West Linn, OR, and 4 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janice Sturgill, and sister Joyce Evans. At Jack's request there will be no services at this time; however, the family suggests making a donation to the Harrison Ambulance (in his and Jan's name), enjoy a cheese burger at One Shot Charlie's, or have a dish of peach ice cream at the Harrison Creamery in his honor. A Memorial Tree was planted for Jack
