The history of Japan Metals & Chemicals Co., Ltd. (JMC) dates back to 1917 when Hokkai Denka Kogyo Co., Ltd. was founded in Fushiki-cho (now known as Takaoka City) in Toyama Prefecture as the root of JMC. Since then, many business integrations and mergers have taken place until the establishment of JMC in its present form. Based in Takaoka Works in Japan, in Brazil and in France, the ferroalloy business of JMC, which has served as one of the business segments of JMC since its foundation, is manufacturing and selling ferroalloys that are an auxiliary material indispensable to steelmaking. The technology and expertise gained in this business are acceded to JMC's functional material business, serving as a base for the manufacture and sales of a variety of products including hydrogen storage alloys, high-purity metals, ferrite calcined powders and ceramics produced at its Oguni and Sakata Works as production bases.
