The group was founded by Mr.N.Ponnambalam Pillai (NMP) - the grandfather of the present Managing Partner, Mr.V.Muthukumar - who was primarily a yarn trader, Handloom lungis manufacturer and Exporter. In his initial years of 1930s he had established a name for himself in the yarn business in the temple city of Chidambaram. In 1943, the firm Kasthuribai & Co. was established that went into retail textile business starting the operations first at 74, West Car Street, Chidambaram from where we are operating till date, after expanding the business periodically. Though we do not have any records to fall back, we were advised by our fore fathers that the turnover of KBC in the first year of establishment was Rs.10 lakh which we consider significant in the context of the fact that it was over 7 decades ago.
