Since 1936 Kirkwood and Darby, Inc. has been committed to providing its clients with the best professional representation in the ad valorem tax industry. Our purpose is to insure "fair and equal" taxation for our clients, while assuring they pay the legal minimum in property tax... Kirkwood and Darby, Inc. actually began as a one-man practice by Verner Sherman in 1934. He was joined by Lee Kirkwood in 1936 forming the company of Sherman and Kirkwood which served exclusively the oil & gas industry. In 1940 W.J. "Butch" Darby joined the firm, and with the loss of Mr. Sherman, the company became Kirkwood and Darby. With the passing of both Lee Kirkwood and William J. Darby in the 1970s, the leadership of the company was entrusted to Gene Clark who had joined the firm in 1952. The company, no longer a partnership, incorporated in 1985. Mr. Clark passed away in 2006, and the company was taken over and is still run by two long-time employees, D. Bruce "Skip" Kongable and Debbie Welch. In..
