Aki Hanhela

Aki is surveyor at Krogius since 2006. He covers a wide range of surveys: marine, cargoes, damages, loss prevention, P&I and H&M. He is a Finland Chamber of Commerce authorised goods inspector in area of cargo handling & transport damages. Aki obtained his license as Certified Operator for ultrasonic tightness testing with the Class Type Approved Sherlog TA. While working as surveyor, he followed the Lloyds Technical Cargo Surveying (TCS) Module 2 training.

Albert Weatherill

Following a sea-going career on refrigerated vessels, Ro-Ro and the world's largest floating fish meal factory up to the rank of Chief Officer, Albert joined McAusland's in 1982. Albert is a skilled investigator and negotiator and is regularly appointed as an expert witness on a variety of cases. He has also published numerous articles on the carriage of steel cargoes as well as guidelines for surveyors and co-authored the Standard Club's handbook for steel products. Albert has travelled the world on behalf of P&I Clubs whilst also overseeing a 20-fold increase in the Company's turnover taking it from a single office to a multi-national organisation.

Andy Wilson

Andy is a Marine Surveyor and joined McAusland & Turner in 2019. Before becoming a marine surveyor, Andy worked in the offshore windfarm construction industry as heavy lift deck supervisor, prior to this Andy served on a variety of vessels mostly in the oil and gas sector for 20 years; lastly as chief officer/deck supervisor on a self-elevating jack up vessel that serviced gas platforms and well servicing operations. He has extensive onshore and offshore experience in the planning and supervision of lifting operations and crane operations. During his time in the oil and gas industry he held numerous qualifications for the shipment of dangerous goods, and he was also a trained authorised gas tester. During his time offshore he was trained and involved in accident investigation and was also involved in the reviewing of offshore vessels' safety cases. Since joining McAusland's Andy has been involved in the loading/lashing and unloading of wind turbine components, Marine warranty surveys and P&I work. Andy is trained as a visual weld inspector and holds the NVQ level 5 Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations (LOLER appointed person) and is also studying for the P&IQ diploma drop and is always keen to further his career and experience as a marine surveyor.

Anni Koskela - CFO

Carl Dedecker

Carl joined Van Ameyde Marine in 2003 as a Marine Surveyor. As from November 2014 Carl is General Manager for the Belgium branches. He acquired his license as an Officer and Specialist Marine Electronics and has 10 years of sea-going experience on different types of vessels and finally on a jack-up drilling rig where he made his way up to Barge Engineer. Working in the oil industry he received extensive safety training, such as e.g. Advanced Fire Fighting and Prevention, Fire Team Leader, and the shipment of IMDG cargo by air and sea. He then worked for 4 years for a software company which was world leader in software for container terminals, where he gained experience in the automation of large container terminals world-wide. During the years with Van Ameyde Marine, Carl followed various courses such as IMDG regulations, Cambridge reefer course, and cargo securing for road transport, and seminars on exceptional large and heavy transports. Furthermore, he gave several presentations and courses on the stowage of coils in containers. He was also involved as a surveyor in several major railroad (freight) accidents in Belgium.

Dave Clark

Dave is a Marine Surveyor and joined McAusland & Turner in 2014. Before joining McAusland's, Dave worked as a line manager for SGS Oil, Gas & Chemicals division for 8 years culminating with him holding a managerial position at SGS Immingham branch. This gave Dave a wealth of experience dealing with cargo contamination issues and loss control investigations, as well as industry practices. Apart from being our senior oil loss/dispute investigator Dave has conducted P&I surveys around the globe, particularly in the tanker, fruit and fish sectors.

Dominic M. Jones

Dominic has an MSc in Marine Operations, Diploma in Marine Surveying specialism in Warranty Surveys, and Higher Diploma in Nautical Science. He obtained the Chief Officer foreign Going Class 1/II and has served as master on various super yachts. Dominic has served over 25 years in the marine industry. Seagoing experience has been a variety of deep-water dynamic positioning offshore related vessels from Well Intervention PSV's to AHTS's, Field Support Subsea Construction(Semisubmersibles, Monohull) and super yachts. Over 15 year's marine surveying experience in various fields of activity. Dominic has acted on behalf of lead legal offices, for the Panama Maritime Courts as expert during dispositions, Panama Maritime Board of Local Inquiries and technical litigation consultancy.

Eric W. Casson

Eric is a Senior Marine Surveyor and joined McAuslands in February 2017, having been trained as a marine surveyor by the Maritime & Coast Guard Agency (UK) the previous year as a Port State Inspector undertaking courses in Wooden & FRP Boat Building Technology Course; ISM Lead Auditor Course (including ISM); ISPS Verification Course; MLC 2006 Course; Lloyds Register Hull Inspection Course (Damage & Repair). Before becoming a marine surveyor, Eric was at sea for 35 years, serving on an extensive variety of vessels; ultimately as Captain of highly sophisticated research & survey vessels, as well as a deep-water offshore drilling vessel (MODU). During this period, he experienced first-hand a wide verity of maritime emergencies, encompassing piracy, large scale fires, bomb threats, medevacs and hurricanes. He has also undertaken drydocking's, refits, conversions and subsequent acceptance sea trials. As such, he is highly trained, encompassing a broad scope of maritime related training courses including being a qualified British Seas Fishery Officer. He has extensive experience in the specialist vessel sector from survey, environmental research, exploration, new build concept trails (RN) and coastal & blind pilotage training for the Royal Navy with a track record of seeking to improve the working environment through process integration and new safety measures; in addition to which he has served on every class of vessel including Ro-Ro passenger ships. Eric also acts as Expert Witness in arbitrage and court cases.

Hanna has started as Survey Coordinator and Claims Handler in Finland. After a couple of years, she became team leader for the Claim Handlers and Car Inspectors. During the company's expansion outside Finland, her responsibility area switched to Management of claims procedures in Finland, the Baltic States, Russia, Ukraine, Denmark and Sweden for the key marine cargo insurance customers. Responsibilities were including new procedures implementation, staff training, operative and financial results as well as client relations. Hanna was appointed as Managing Director of Van Ameyde Krogius in March 2017.

James Curley

James is a Project Manager & Renewables Senior Surveyor and joined McAusland & Turner in 2004. James started his career with McAusland's superintending lash barge loading on the Humber. Following the demise of this service James was transferred to the Felixstowe office where he executed breakbulk loadouts including remodelling the way the work was planned and reported upon. James introduced 3D drawing and in doing so was able to predict exact lashing angles. This led to principal's consumable spend being reduced exponentially leading to increased activity. Following the winning of a large wind turbine manufacturer's contract James was promoted to Project Manager and is invited to and attends all technical meetings with them where experiences are shared and better practices devised. James also assists colleagues with technical support and attends loading and unloading inspections of project cargo around the world.

Lee Myers

Lee is a Senior Marine Surveyor and joined McAusland & Turner in 1995. Following being recruited as a graduate of the Hull Trinity House Nautical Academy, Lee was sent to sea on general cargo coastal vessels. Lee has attended on many 1000s of vessels and cases involving all manner of cargoes and areas. From attending at the anchorage on small boats to free ropes from bulk carrier propellers, to attending overseas to inspect waste cargo for the absence of artificial radioactive isotopes to acting as a Recovery Agent to being McAusland and Turner Operations Manager and latterly Resources Manager, Lee has a wealth of experience in many sectors. Lee works closely with our Lloyd's Agency stakeholders working on loss investigations, mitigation and recoveries. Lee is one of the deliverers of our extremely popular Vessel Familiarisation Course in the UK.

Tom is a Marine Surveyor and joined McAusland & Turner in 2018, following the acquisition of Broderick, Wright & Strong, Tom joined BWS in 2013. Prior to becoming a Marine Surveyor, Tom completed a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hull, specialising in stress analysis. He has extensive knowledge in bunker & draft surveys as well as Petroleum Coke cargoes as well as loading/discharge superintendence/supervision for a number of dry bulk cargoes. Tom has experience with the loading and discharge of wind turbine components and is an industry expert on the carriage of scrap cargoes.

Walter Dekkers

In 1990 Walter Dekkers joined Van Ameyde Marine as a Marine Surveyor. As from September 2006 Walter has been Managing Director of Van Ameyde Marine. Walter holds his Chief Engineer's licence and has 7 years of sea-going experience. During his time at sea he sailed on a variety of vessels including heavy lift vessels. His main work involves all types of technical and cargo surveys, but he also carries out P&I entry and condition surveys, pre-purchase surveys and risk management inspections.Walter is trained as an ISM Lead Auditor, he is an approved 360 Quality Inspector and he completed the Cambridge Reefer Course. Furthermore, he took various tanker courses. He is a member of IBIA, registered as surveyor for the Dutch Institute of Registered Surveyors (NIVRE-re), an associate fellow of the Nautical Institute, a registered UNUM arbiter and is registered as judicial expert at the LRGD. Walter has handled several large casualties, including court cases, and has acted as an expert witness.
