Vijay Kamble, runs a Trade Union by the name SHRAMIK UTKARSHA SABHA (affiliated to INTUC), representing lakhs of employees employed in various group of Industries in Maharashtra and U.P. He is the President of many Central Organizations like Modern Food Industries, Civil Aviation, etc. His father was an eminent Congress leader and was associated with late Shri. Vaikuntlal Mehta, the then Finance Minister of Mumbai State. In the year 1956 he invited the late Hon'ble first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Neharu to Kherwadi, Bandra, the area which was developed by late Shri Balagangadhar Kher. After passing SSC exam in the year 1960 on the recommendation of Dri Vaikutlal Mehta, Vijay Kamble got a job in M/s. Premier Automobiles which was largest car manufacturing company in Maharashtra. Completed education up to graduation while working in M/s. Premier Automobiles and also took active part in trade union movement and Congress party. In 1978 at the instructions of Honorable late Smt. Indira Gandhi started Trade Union movement under the name of Kamgar Utkarsh Sabha which was inaugurated by the Honorable Shri. H. R. Gokhale, the then Law Minister of our country. One Shri Gulab Joshi was also made president of Kamgar Utkarsh Sabha which was affiliated to INTUC. From 1970 to 1984 Mr Vijay Kamble was able to build up a very strong Trade Union movement in the city of Mumbai organizing 60,000 to 70,000 workers under its fold. During this period Vijay Kamble was fortunate enough to come into a close contact with Honorable Smt. Indira Gandhi and also had an opportunity to travel with Indiraji to Chikmangalur, Gujrat and all over Maharashtra in connection with Lok Sabha election. After the sad and unfortunate assassination of Honorable Indiraji, he came into a close contacts with Shri Sharad Pawar. In 1991, he contested the Assembly election from Kherwadi Constituency, but unfortunately lost by 300 votes only just because of an earlier MLA by name Janardhan Chandurkar who contested the election as a rebel candidate. However, Vijay Kamble was appointed as a President of Maharashtra Housing & Area Development Authority(MHADA) and given the status of a Minister. During the tenure of his President-Ship of MHADA, he has personally gone through several problems of slum-dwellers of Mumbai city and introduced a mass housing scheme which effectively benefited the common man to own a house at a very reasonable price in the city of Mumbai. In the election of LokSabha in 1991 Vijay Kamble had an opportunity to work under the leadership of Honorable Rajiv Gandhi. Honorable Rajiv Gandhi, 8 days before his assassination, was given an overwhelming welcome by him at Bandra-Kherwadi junction which spot now also popularly known as the "Rajiv Gandhi junction". Shri Murali Deora, Honourable Pertoleum Minister, Shri Sharad Pawar, Hon'ble Agriculture Minister & M.P. late Shri Sunil Dutt and other VIPs were also present. Now Vijay Kamble is the Vice-President of Maharashtra Pradesh of NCP. He also floated an organization by name SAMAJIK SAMATHA MANCH with an aim to bring all Dalit, Minority communities and other downtrodden class of society who are deprived from sharing power
