Alison Granier

Alison Granier, M.D. is a native of Coeur d'Alene and a graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Granier is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She completed her ophthalmology-surgical training at the University of California, Davis.

David Dance

David Dance, M.D. finished his ophthalmology residency at Oregon Health and Science University in 2009. He is a graduate of Baylor College of Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Ali Heaton

Dr. Ali Heaton, originally born and raised in central Montana has been an integral part of the local eye care community since 2010. Dr. Heaton has been heavily involved in the Idaho Optometric Physicians organization serving as the President in 2018, the Vice President in 2016, and the North Region Director from 2013-2016. She is a graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry and completed her undergrad at Carroll College (Go Saints!). Dr. Heaton specializes in medically focused eye exams including macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal conditions, and dry eye. Dr. Heaton has had a passion for eye care and optometry since getting her first pair of glasses in the third grade because when she left that appointment, and she will tell you to this day, she felt that her optometrist was amazing and showed her that she could be a Doctor, have a family, and provide care to those around her. When Dr. Heaton is not serving her patients, she is spending time with her husband and daughter, exploring all that the Inland Northwest has to offer.

Drew Thomas

Drew Thomas, M.D. is originally from Louisiana and received his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Louisiana Tech University. Read More Drew Thomas, M.D. is originally from Louisiana and received his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Louisiana Tech University. He completed medical school and ophthalmology residency from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Dr. Thomas began his career in Monroe, Louisiana and joined North Idaho Eye Institute in 2019. Dr. Thomas is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Thomas's areas of emphasis are cataract surgery, refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK), and general eye care for patients with diabetes, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. He is specifically interested in refractive cataract surgery and enjoys getting to know his patients and putting together a specific surgical plan tailored to each patient's needs and lifestyle. Dr. Thomas and his wife and four children enjoy exploring the outdoors of the Pacific Northwest and experiencing everything it has to offer.

John C. Weisel

John C. Weisel, O.D. is an optometrist and graduate of Linfield College in Oregon. After receiving his Optometry degree from Pacific University, Dr. Weisel spent three years as an Optometrist with the U.S. Army. Dr. Weisel is a valuable addition to the practice specializing in contact lens care and young adult healthy eye care.

John Calderwood

John Calderwood, O.D. is a native to north Idaho. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Idaho, and received his doctorate from Illinois College of Optometry in 2004. John Calderwood, O.D. is a native to North Idaho. He graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School and then served a 2 year mission for his church in Venezuela.

Katie Gleason

She attended Carroll College where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and then went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2008. Dr. Gleason then completed an ocular disease residency at the James H Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. Dr. Gleason is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. During her training, Dr. Gleason took the opportunity to travel to Guatemala and provide eye care services for those in need. Upon finishing her training, Dr. Gleason started her career in Moscow and Lewiston, ID where she was in private practice for 13 years. Dr. Gleason is an experienced clinician with special interest in dry eyes, glaucoma, diabetes, autoimmune conditions, and keratoconus. Dr. Gleason has spent the past five years becoming a specialty contact lens fitter with scleral lenses for patients with corneal eye disease, such as keratoconus and post corneal grafts. Dr. Gleason is also tremendously experienced in the co-management of surgical procedures. Dr. Gleason moved to northern Idaho with her husband and their three dogs. Sara Brumbach Duke

Sara Brumbach Duke, M.D. is an Idaho native. She attended Willamette University for her undergraduate degree, received her doctorate from Creighton University School of Medicine, and completed her ophthalmology-surgical training at Loyola University Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Duke is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She has experience providing comprehensive medical and surgical care for eye conditions including cataracts, macular degeneration, oculoplastic/eyelid disorders, diabetic retinopathy, pterygium, uveitis, and glaucoma. Dr. Duke started her career in Chattanooga, TN, and returned to Idaho in 2014 to join the North Idaho Eye Institute and be closer to family and friends. Dr. Duke and her two boys enjoy spending time in the mountains where they can backpack and ski. Dr. Duke is committed to supporting the Idaho Youth Ranch and The Children's Village locally, as well as working internationally by going on humanitarian trips to Peru. Tad Buckland

Tad Buckland, M.D. began his general ophthalmology practice with North Idaho Eye Institute in 2007. Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Buckland went to medical school at Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany, New York. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Buckland practices comprehensive ophthalmology including cataracts, glaucoma, and eyelid procedures with a special interest in medical treatment of retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetes, and vein occlusions. Outside of the office, Dr. Buckland enjoys skiing, mountain and road biking, and exploring the many outdoor activities Coeur d'Alene has to offer with his wife and son. Tad Buckland, M.D. began his general ophthalmology practice with North Idaho Eye Institute on September 4, 2007.

Whitney A. Smith

Dr. Smith received her doctorate from University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2012 and completed her ophthalmology and surgical training at University of Arizona in 2016.
