Freeman Churchill

Freeman is the founder and President of Orthotics East Ltd. After growing up in Yarmouth, he studied and graduated from Acadia University (1975) in Recreation, and then Dalhousie (1981) in Physical Education. Freeman began his pedorthic work history in 1980. As an athlete, he ran and coached distance running at a national level, and has completed 10 marathons. It was while training for the 1981 Boston Marathon he realized his own biomechanical needs for orthotics and how it would be helpful to others with similar needs. In 1983 he began working with the Nova Scotia Sport Medicine Clinic with a variety of Sport Medicine Physicians, helping in orthotic fitting and fabrication, and designing fitness and training programs. He was the first private Certified Pedorthist (C) in Nova Scotia and has been teaching and training in pedorthics since 1985. Freeman has served as a director and president for the Pedorthic Association of Canada . He serves on the examination body for the College of Pedorthics of Canada , and is a board member of the Prescription Foot Orthotics Laboratory Association (PFOLA) . Freeman is a master swimmer, and also enjoys archery, photography, camping and other outdoor activities. Freeman greatly enjoys the relationship with staff, patients, and the therapeutic communities that have developed over the past 30 years.

Jaime Nickerson

Born and raised in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia Jaime began her pedorthic journey in 2002 at Dalhousie University. While studying and serving as president of the Student Association for Health and Human Performance (SAHHPer) she began working part time in the fabrication lab at Orthotics East. In 2007 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Part time soon turned in to a full time role as a technician during which time she was accepted in to the Diploma in Pedorthics program offered by the University of Western Ontario. Jaime completed practicums in Clinical and Fabrication with Freeman Churchill at Orthotics East and one in Footwear at Canadian Footwear/ Foot Health Centre in Calgary, Alberta. Having graduated from the program with Distinction she challenged the College of Pedorthics of Canada certification exams to obtain the Certified Pedorthist (Canada) credentials. Jaime has recently returned to Halifax after living in the United Kingdom and Edmonton, Alberta where she gained new understanding of building and maintaining small business. She is delighted to be back in a clinical setting seeing old and new patients alike! When she's not at work Jaime can be found working on cardio, strength and flexibility at the local health club, writing for the Pedorthic Association of Canada's Pedorthic Quarterly publication or sampling the food and arts culture this wonderfully diverse city has to offer!
