Joel Callahan, MD, FAAN, is a board-certified neurologist and fellowship-trained in neuromuscular disease who specializes in treating headaches, neuropathy, EMG/EEG, epilepsy, diseases of muscles, dementia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and spasticity. He has been with Pardee since 2011, most recently serving as the medical director of Pardee Neurology Associates. As Chief of Staff, Dr. Callahan provides leadership, guidance, and a voice for the medical staff, contributing to a dynamic physician environment that strives to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-focused care at the 222-bed Pardee Hospital, its comprehensive cancer center, urgent care centers, and orthopedic clinics.

Gregory McCarty, MD, is the Chief Medical Officer of UNC Health Pardee, a $340 million not-for-profit healthcare system serving western North Carolina. Founded in 1953 and managed by UNC Health, Pardee includes a 222-bed acute care hospital, the only comprehensive cancer center in Henderson County, urgent care centers, six orthopedic clinics, and a physician practice network with 341 physicians representing 46 medical specialties and 139 providers representing 25 allied health areas. With nearly 1,500 team members, Pardee is the second-largest employer in Henderson County. McCarty was named Pardee's Chief Medical Officer in January 2022. In this role, he provides operational oversight of multiple departments and coordinates the medical staff activities of the organization, championing clinical pathways and ensuring that the viewpoints of all physicians are presented and considered as a part of strategic decisions. A board-certified emergency medicine physician, McCarty also has served in clinical leadership roles during his tenure with Pardee. Among those positions at Pardee have been Chief of Staff, Director of Emergency Physicians, Medical Director for the Chest Pain Center, and most recently, Medical Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine. He was instrumental in the development of Pardee's heart program and designation as a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Hospital in 2021, giving Pardee only the second STEMI-certified emergency department in all of western North Carolina. McCarty graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in chemistry and studied medicine at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in emergency medicine at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte before moving to Hendersonville in 2007 to join Pardee's emergency department as an attending physician. James "Jay" Kirby is the President and CEO of UNC Health Pardee, a $340 million not-for-profit healthcare system serving western North Carolina. Founded in 1953 and managed by UNC Health, Pardee includes a 222-bed acute care hospital, the only comprehensive cancer center in Henderson County, urgent care centers, six orthopedic clinics, and a physician practice network with 341 physicians representing 46 medical specialties and 139 providers representing 25 allied health areas. With nearly 1,500 team members, Pardee is the second-largest employer in Henderson County. Kirby was named Pardee's CEO in 2011, bringing more than 30 years of healthcare management experience. Under Kirby's leadership, Pardee has consistently grown its market share, increasing net operating revenues from $138 million in 2011 to $340 million in 2021, while expanding its services to include board-certified interventional cardiologists and vascular surgeons, and establishing only the second STEMI-certified emergency department in all of western North Carolina. During Kirby's tenure, Pardee has added key specialties such as pulmonology, neurology, oncology, thoracic surgery and infectious disease, in addition to adding the region's second-largest orthopedic group that resulted in a 40 percent increase in orthopedic volumes. Kirby has kept innovative partnerships at the forefront of Pardee's goals. In a unique collaboration with city and county governments, Blue Ridge Community College, Wingate University and Pardee, a state of the art Health Science Center was built in 2016 that is home to Pardee's 90,000 square foot Cancer Center, Wingate University's Western Campus and Blue Ridge Community College's School of Allied Health. More recently, Pardee developed and syndicated an Ambulatory Surgery Center in partnership with EmergeOrtho, Carolina Spine & Neurosurgery, and Carolina Ophthalmology. Because of these and many other innovations, Pardee has been recognized by HealthGrades as one of "America's Best Hospitals" every year since 2019 and earned HealthGrades' Patient Safety Excellence Award on multiple occasions. Before joining Pardee, Kirby served as senior vice president and chief administrative officer for Self Regional Healthcare, an independent, regional referral system in Greenwood, South Carolina, compromised of a 421-bed hospital, an integrated medical group of 200+ providers, over 2,200 team members, and the second-largest family practice residency program for the Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to Self Regional Healthcare, he held executive-level positions within WestCare Health System in Bryson City and Sylva, North Carolina. Kirby earned both a Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Health Administration from the University of South Carolina and holds an MBA from the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University. He is a certified Medical Practice Executive and an American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow. An active community leader, Kirby has served on the boards of Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC), Western North Carolina Health Network, YMCA of Western North Carolina, the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, The Blood Connection, and United Way of Henderson County. John Bryant, EdD, joined UNC Health Pardee in July 2022 as the organization's first Vice President of Workforce Development and Community Affairs. Dr. Bryant is responsible for developing and recruiting a qualified workforce to the health care system, which includes the only comprehensive cancer center in Henderson County, four urgent care locations, six orthopedic clinics, and a physician practice network with more than 340 physicians representing 46 medical specialties and nearly 140 providers representing 25 allied health areas. His efforts focus on the cultivation of key partnerships within education that will result in additional pathways to a future career in healthcare. Bryant most recently served as the Superintendent of Henderson County Public Schools (HCPS). Prior to that, he served HCPS as the Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services. His previous roles in education include Senior Director for Human Resources, elementary school principal, high school English teacher, and high school administrator. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of WNC, as a member of the Executive Board of the United Way of Henderson County, and as a member of the Henderson County Board of Public Health. Bryant graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Education, then went on to obtain his Master of Arts in School Administration from Gardner Webb University before pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Western Carolina University.

Johnna Reed joined UNC Health Pardee in 2016 as Chief Administrative Officer, bringing with her more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry. She oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization, which includes the 222-bed Pardee Hospital, a comprehensive cancer center, urgent care centers, six orthopedic clinics, and a network of 341 physicians and 139 allied health providers. In this role, Reed has specific oversight of the organization's four urgent care locations, community and government relations, human resources, and cardiovascular services. Under Reed's leadership, Pardee established only the second STEMI-certified emergency department in all of western North Carolina. In addition, Pardee's neurology services have been significantly enhanced by expanding its neurology practice, forging innovative partnerships, and investing in its telestroke program. These innovations have led Pardee to earn the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The GuidelinesĀ®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, which recognizes its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the highest quality treatment in line with nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. Reed previously served as Vice President of Population Health and Senior Vice President of Strategy & Marketing at Bon Secours Health System in Greenville, South Carolina. She also served as Senior Director of Cardiovascular Services & Critical Care at AnMed Health in Anderson, South Carolina. While at AnMed, she co-authored an article, "The Challenges of Implementing a Cardiovascular Information System," for the National Library of Medicine. Reed is a registered nurse and received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Texas Tech University. She later received a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Public Health and Ethics from Creighton University. Reed is a former board member for United Way of Henderson County and remains an active supporter and member of United Way's Women United group. Johnna Reed, BSN, MPH, joined UNC Health Pardee in 2016 as Chief Administrative Officer. Mike Sunday was appointed as UNC Health Pardee's Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in May 2022, having previously served as Pardee's Controller since 2019. UNC Health Pardee, the second-largest employer in Henderson County, includes a 222-bed acute care hospital, a comprehensive cancer center, urgent care centers, six orthopedic clinics, and a network of 341 physicians, representing 46 specialties, and 139 allied health providers. As Chief Financial Officer, Sunday provides executive oversight for key supporting functions, including revenue cycle, accounting, internal audit, system budgeting, capital planning and decision support. In his previous role as Controller, Sunday oversaw the functions of accounting, reimbursement, decision support and payroll for the health system. He was responsible for all month-end reporting and annual audits for Pardee Hospital and Pardee Urgent Care. While in this position, Sunday implemented the On-Base scanning system, a single enterprise platform that has improved Pardee's efficiency and effectiveness, and a weekly performance projection for financials. Prior to joining Pardee, Sunday held positions with increasing responsibility at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He received both his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and his Master of Business Administration from East Carolina University.
