Bill Harlow

Mr. Harlow joined the firm in 2020 as Director of Business Development, focused on identifying new client opportunities while deepening existing relationships with the firm's key referral partners. Mr. Harlow has 30 years of business development experience in professional services, the last 20 years in the accounting and tax consulting industry with Deloitte, DuCharme McMillen, and most recently Katz Sapper & Miller. Prior to this he held business development positions at Dun & Bradstreet and WorldCom. Bill received a BA in Communications from Ohio State University.

Bob Shortle - CEO, Founder

Mr. Shortle is a co-founder and Senior Managing Director of Periculum Capital Company. He was previously President of the securities firm, Huntington Capital Corp., which was owned by Huntington Bancshares, Inc. Previous to that he was Sr. Vice President and Managing Director in-charge of the Corporate Finance Group for the securities firm Raffensperger, Hughes & Co. Mr. Shortle has worked as a Manager with KPMG Peat Marwick and as Vice President with Bank One, Indiana, NA, (f/k/a Indiana National Bank), where he founded their corporate finance group. Mr. Shortle has personally led or managed over a hundred merger and acquisition transactions. He has led or participated in private placement financings for startup companies, growth companies, corporate acquisitions, and turnaround companies as well as public offerings for more mature companies. He received an MBA in Finance from Indiana University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and is a CPA. He has served on the board of directors of numerous private companies involved in manufacturing, distribution and financial services.

Chris Caniff - CEO

Mr. Caniff joined the firm in 2001 and is a Senior Managing Director of Periculum Capital Company. He spends the majority of his time leading the firm's merger & acquisition activities. Mr. Caniff has completed over 80 transactions during his tenure with the firm. Prior to joining Periculum, Mr. Caniff was a founder of a private equity fund. The fund was focused on purchasing middle market companies in basic industries. Mr. Caniff spent the first 11 years of his career in corporate banking. The majority of his career was spent with the predecessor banks to JP Morgan Chase Bank, N. A. During his banking career, he completed numerous merger & acquisition financings for large corporations. Mr. Caniff received his BA in Economics from Indiana University.

Drew McCuiston

Mr. McCuiston joined the firm in 2023 and is a Director. He assists clients with mergers and acquisitions, financings, and capital structure related projects. Mr. McCuiston was most recently the CFO of EOS Worldwide, a high growth, private equity backed franchisor that serves more than 170,000 entrepreneurial companies around the world via the tools and concepts that make up the Entrepreneurial Operating System® (EOS®). Prior to his role at EOS®, Mr. McCuiston was a co-founder and partner at The Firefly Group, a lower middle market investment firm headquartered in Indianapolis, IN. Mr. McCuiston previously worked for a Carmel, Indiana-based family office and in corporate development for Indiana University Health. He began his career in Indiana's Office of Management and Budget during the administration of former Governor Mitch Daniels. Mr. McCuiston, a native of Newburgh, Indiana, received his MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University where he was a Dean's Fellow. He received his BA from Indiana University's College of Arts & Sciences.

Fritz Schutte - Managing Director

Mr. Schutte is a Managing Director of Periculum Capital Company. In addition to leading the firm's debt placement efforts, specifically capital structure and financing related products, he also focuses on advising clients on mergers and acquisitions activities. Previously, he had been the Corporate Treasurer of Wabash National Corporation (NYSE: WNC) headquartered in Lafayette, Indiana. In this role, he was responsible for all banking and risk management activities. Prior to joining Wabash, Mr. Schutte was the Assistant Treasurer of Central States Enterprises, Inc., a privately held grain origination and transportation company headquartered in Orlando, Florida. As Assistant Treasurer he was responsible for all financing, banking, and commodity hedging activities. In addition to his corporate finance and risk management knowledge, Mr. Schutte brings almost 10 years of commercial banking experience as a large corporate and middle market lender for Suntrust Bank and JP Morgan Chase f/k/a Bank One. Mr. Schutte received his BS in Agricultural Economics/Finance from Purdue University and is a Certified Treasury Professional.

Joe Broecker - CEO, Founder

Mr. Broecker is a co-founder and Senior Managing Director of Periculum Capital Company. He was previously a Senior Vice President and Managing Director of NatCity Investments, Inc., as well as its predecessor firm, Raffensperger, Hughes, and Co. Mr. Broecker focused most of his practice on private equity and expansion financings for emerging growth and technology-based companies. He co-founded two venture capital private equity partnerships and remains an active advisor to private equity firms throughout the Midwest. Mr. Broecker was a senior operating and corporate executive with a large European-based multi-national medical device and pharmaceutical company which involved the management of subsidiaries and divisions with an established market presence as well as new technology and start-up operations. Mr. Broecker was previously a manager in the consulting division of Ernst and Young (a/k/a Ernst & Ernst). He received an Executive MBA from Indiana University and a BBA in accounting and finance from the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Broecker is a CPA and has served as a director of a number of private and public companies primarily involved in the healthcare, chemical, and consumer industries.

Matt Haskell - VP

Prior to joining Periculum, Mr. Haskell was an analyst with Brown Gibbons Lang & Company ("BGL"). During his time with BGL, Mr. Haskell was responsible for supporting the firm's investment banking activities focusing on mergers and acquisitions, private placements, financial restructuring assignments, and valuations across the diversified industrials and environmental services verticals. Mr. Haskell is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana. He earned a BS in Finance and Operations from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in May 2017.

Merrit Sacks

Mrs. Sacks joined the firm in 2023 and is a Director. She assists clients with mergers and acquisitions, financings, and capital structure related projects. Mrs. Sacks was most recently a Senior Director at Heartland Dental, a high-growth, KKR private equity-backed dental support organization supporting over 1,700 dental offices across 38 states. While at Heartland, Mrs. Sacks led a team focused on financial reporting, technical accounting, and tax. Prior to her role at Heartland, Mrs. Sacks led M&A activity and financial reporting at Allied Solutions, LLC, an Indiana-headquartered company providing technology-based products and services to over 4,000 financial institutions. Mrs. Sacks began her career as an auditor with Deloitte & Touche in Chicago serving clients in financial services, manufacturing and life sciences industries. Mrs. Sacks, an Indianapolis native, graduated with high distinction and honors from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business with degrees in Accounting and Finance, as well as an MBA.

Nick Thieme

Mr. Thieme is an Analyst of Periculum Capital Company, supporting the firm across all service areas. Prior to joining Periculum, Mr. Thieme worked as an analyst with Fifth Third Bank. During his time with Fifth Third, Mr. Thieme rotated through the Consumer Payments Finance, Wealth & Asset Management Finance, Investor Relations, and Financial Planning & Analysis groups as part of the Finance and Accounting Leadership Program. He was responsible for supporting the Bank's finance activities including monthly and quarterly reporting, forecasting, and planning at the line of business and Bancorp levels as well as contributing to the quarterly earnings release process. Mr. Thieme is a native of Carmel, Indiana. He earned a BS in Finance from the Williams College of Business at Xavier University in May 2020.

Sean Frazer - Managing Director

Mr. Frazer is a Managing Director of Periculum Capital Company. He focuses on merger and acquisition advisory, capital formation, and merchant banking for the technology, business services and other industries. Mr. Frazer is the firm's Chief Compliance Officer and leads the financial analyst recruitment and development program. Before joining Periculum in 2015, Mr. Frazer was a Senior Manager with Amazon.com in Seattle, Washington. He worked in finance, business unit mergers and acquisitions, post-acquisition integration, strategy, and product management with Amazon's Kindle organization and the Amazon Local Register team. Prior to Amazon, Mr. Frazer founded Lombard Capital, a strategic advisory and merchant banking firm. He led the acquisition of a business services firm and also served as an interim executive in several business services companies. Mr. Frazer was also a Vice President with the Indianapolis-based private equity firm, Hammond, Kennedy, Whitney & Company ("HKW"). While at HKW, he made platform investments and oversaw portfolio companies in the manufacturing, distribution, and business services industries. Mr. Frazer earned a MBA/JD from the Indiana University (Bloomington) Kelley School of Business and School of Law. Five years earlier he earned a BS in Computer Information Systems from the Kelley School.

Taylor Hoke

During this time, he was responsible for supporting the firm's investment banking activities focused on mergers and acquisitions, private placements, and valuations. Mr. Hoke is a native of Bloomington, Indiana. He earned a BS in Finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in May 2019.

Zainab Bass - Managing Director

Prior to joining Periculum, Ms. Bass was an Analyst in the Energy Investment Banking Division of Citigroup in Houston, Texas. While at Citi, Ms. Bass focused on mergers and acquisitions and participated in over $8 billion of capital markets transactions, including five initial public offerings and two inaugural high yield bond offerings. Ms. Bass is a native of Plano, Texas. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas with a BBA in Business Honors and Finance from the McCombs School of Business.
