GARY BAWTINHEIMER

Gary has been in the construction industry for nearly 40 years. Starting his career in the drywall/stucco industry, he quickly accelerated his knowledge of the industry and moved into supervisory roles, running various crews. For the last eight years of his tender in the drywall/stucco industry his duties change to that of Project Manger/Supervisor. In this capacity his responsibilities included: developing and controlling schedules and budgets supervising and quality control responsibilities of the assembly of the buildings exterior wall cladding systems construction of interior and exterior steel stud wall systems Gary worked on a variety of buildings including low and hi-rise residential buildings, as well as commercial and institutional buildings. Throughout the years, Gary experienced a wide variety of exterior wall cladding systems including: sand & cement stucco exterior insulation finish systems metal panels pre-fabricated wall panel systems The knowledge gain by this practical and hands on experience has proving invaluable in his chosen field of Building Envelope Consulting. Gary started his consulting career in 1996 when he joined the firm of Gordon Spratt & Associates (GS&A). His duties included reviewing the exterior building envelope assemblies on many major new construction projects throughout the Lower Mainland. He was responsible for reviewing and approving all components of the buildings exterior envelope including: waterproofing systems wall coatings caulking glazing systems roofing and flashing systems materials research and approvals window testing During his tender with GS&A he was also involved with several materials and cladding failure investigations, gaining invaluable investigation skills and building remediation experience. Gary formed a partnership in 2000 with an associate and started the consulting firm of Rainforest Envelope Protection Services Ltd. Their firm offered services in all aspects of the building envelope field. In May of 2005 Gary resigned his position with Rainforest and entered into an association with Frits A. Huckriede, P. Eng. of SEL Engineering Ltd. Together they form a new building envelope division within the SEL Engineering Ltd. firm. A large part of the focus of this new partnership has been in the building remediation field. Together Gary and Frits have successfully completed several multi-family projects.
