Chris is the Global Vice President of Research & Development for the Mars Snacking segment of Mars Inc. He is responsible for over 1600 R&D associates across 60 countries, and his scope of accountability spans programs encompassing multiple horizons of innovation and science & technology. He has extensive experience in Research & Development for major global food companies including Quaker Oats, PepsiCo, Wrigley and Mars. He's had the privilege of working on some of the world's most favorite brands including Gatorade, Extra Gum, M&M's and Skittles. Chris was appointed to his current role following eight years living and working in Russia, Germany and the UK.
Chris has a passion for all things innovation, with a specific focus on consumer experience and design. He has worked on or led teams delivering hundreds of innovation projects during his career and pioneered many category-first innovation offerings and approaches. He created the first global Experience Design Team in Wrigley and built design centers in Chicago and London.
Inside and outside of work Chris has a strong passion for coaching and developing people. He has coached dozens of youth sports teams and ran youth sports leagues with his wife Carol in Russia, UK and US. He has developed numerous employees throughout his career who have gone on to do great things in the world of innovation.
Chris and his wife Carol have three daughters, one son, a cat and a dog.

Claire began her career in sales and marketing at General Mills, working with customers from Aldi to SuperValu to Amazon to deliver superior in-store and online retail experiences for brands such as Nature Valley, Cheerios, and Yoplait. She launched over 30 new brands and became an expert in product distribution, sales forecasting, promotion and pricing, and localized marketing for brands across the country. Based on her experience developing a new snacks product for General Mills, Claire became passionate about how human-centered design thinking can impact not only retail experiences but also new product development processes within companies. She attended the MMM Program at Kellogg and interned at Medtronic as a Global Product Manager in their pacemaker division, focused on using human-centered design methods to drive new product innovation for the world's smallest pacemaker. After graduating from the MMM Program in 2018, Claire joined IBM's Digital Strategy practice where she helps clients master the new product development and innovation management process and digitally transform to deliver new growth for the company. Claire is currently the Director of Design Strategy & Service Design at Zillow

Greg Holderfield is executive director of the Segal Design Institute, clinical associate professor, and director of the MMM program. He is a passionate advocate for the power of design and is well known in the field. His design work has been recognized globally with more than 25 design awards, including two prestigious German "Red Dot" awards, Japan's "Good Design" award, and the IF International Design Forum award.
Greg brings to the classroom over 20 years of experience in the innovation space. Most recently he was vice president of design and strategy at ARC Worldwide / Leo Burnett, where he led breakthrough initiatives for McDonald's, P&G, Kellogg's, and Symantec. Previously he was director of strategic design innovation at HLB, working with such clients as Microsoft, Dell, Unilever, SC Johnson & Son, 3M, Wrigley, and LG Electronics. In 2009, he was named to the global design jury for the International Design Excellence Awards.
Greg received his BFA in industrial design from the University of Illinois, where he was recognized with the IDSA Merit Award. He received his MS in product development from Northwestern University.

Jeri Beth Ward became Northwestern University's Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications in Fall 2018. She is responsible for driving the University's global branding and communications strategy. Ward is a double alumna of Northwestern with dual graduate degrees from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management and the McCormick School of Engineering.
She returned to Evanston after a successful career in a variety of marketing and communications roles at Ford Motor Company and Audi. She was the first female vice president at Audi of America, serving most recently as senior vice president and chief communications officer. She earned her bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering at Kettering University. After launching her career in powertrain engineering at General Motors, she went on to earn her Northwestern degrees through the University's MMM program. While at Northwestern, she interned at General Electric in consumer marketing. In 2001 she returned to the automotive business as a marketing leader at Ford. In 2017, Ward was named to a list of America's 25 top innovators in the public relations field by the Holmes Report, a leading news outlet examining public relations and marketing trends.

Kim Hoffmann leads design education initiatives and strategic projects for the Segal Design Institute.
Over the past 15 years, she has worked on numerous projects and programs at Segal. She helped start up the Master of Science in Engineering Design Innovation (EDI) program during its first five years, managed operations for the institute overall, and contributed to Segal's strategic vision as it has grown and evolved. She currently teaches Design Thinking and Doing and Designing Your Life, both foundational courses in human-centered design that are open to all undergraduates at the university.
Hoffmann also serves as a director of the James Dyson Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to engineering and design education.
Previously, Hoffmann worked in product marketing at Logitech, a major manufacturer of personal digital peripherals, where she helped define and launch new products in the mobile mouse category. She has also worked on numerous product design and development projects as an independent consultant over the years.
In parallel to her other design work, Kim co-founded RedStart Design, a jewelry design firm, with two other designers from Stanford. One of RedStart's pieces, the Subtle Safety Ring, is held in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Michael Peshkin is a professor of mechanical engineering and is the Allen K. and Johnnie Cordell Breed Senior Professor in Design.
His research is in the fields of human-robot interaction, haptics, sensors, and rehabilitation robotics. He created the core technology of what is now Mako Surgical, and has also co-founded companies in human-assist robotics (Cobotics), rehabilitation robotics (Kinea Design), and tactile display (Tanvas).
Peshkin holds a BS in physics from the University of Chicago and a PhD in physics from Carnegie Mellon University.
