Scott Westheimer joined Syprett Meshad as an associate in 1996. He became a partner in 2000.
Mr. Westheimer has an "AV" rating by Martindale Hubbell, which means that he has been deemed to have very high professional ethics and preeminent legal ability. In 2021, he was selected to the Florida Super Lawyers list; in 2010 and 2011, he was selected to the Super Lawyers "Rising Stars" list. For 2012 through 2014, 2017, and 2020, he was recognized among Florida's "Legal Elite" by Florida Trend magazine. Only 1,126 lawyers in Florida were named to the 2020 list, which represents just 1.5 percent of the more than 67,000 Florida Bar Members actively practicing law in the state. In 2019, Mr. Westheimer was re-elected to a fourth two-year term on the Florida Bar Board of Governors, Twelfth Circuit Representative, Seat One, representing over 1,800 attorneys in Sarasota, DeSoto and Manatee counties. Mr. Westheimer currently serves as the Chairman of the Disciplinary Review Committee (for 2020-2021), serves on the Executive Committee (for the fifth straight year), served as Chairman of the Communications Committee (for 2017-2018 and 2018-2019), served as Chairman of the Program Evaluation Committee (for 2019-2020), and has served on the Special Committee on Technologies Affecting the Practice of Law and Strategic Planning Committee. Mr. Westheimer's practice involves primarily the representation of plaintiffs in personal injury matters and various aspects of commercial litigation. He has handled cases involving complex personal injury matters, including:

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Mr. Westheimer was raised primarily in Sarasota and graduated from Riverview High School in 1989. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, with high honors, from the University of Florida in 1993, and in 1996, received his Juris Doctorate, with high honors, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. While at the College of Law, he had the distinction of graduating as a member of the Order of the Coif. He was a Teaching Assistant in Appellate Advocacy and Legal Research and Writing, and participated in the International Law Program at Leiden University in the Netherlands in the spring of 1996.

John D. Dumbaugh has been a partner with Syprett Meshad since 1984, after joining the firm in 1974. He is a board-certified attorney, recognized as an expert in the field of real estate by The Florida Bar for 35 years of continuous certification. His practice areas are focused on real estate development, international real estate investment, title insurance, lending practice, and estate planning and estate administration.
Attorney Dumbaugh is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, and Florida State Courts. He is an Approved Closing Agent for all area institutional lenders, Old Republic National Title Insurance Company, Chicago Title Insurance Company, and Attorneys' Title Fund Services. As well, he serves on the circuit advisory team of Attorneys' Title Fund Services for the 12th Judicial Circuit.
Fluent in German, Attorney Dumbaugh has served as a referral attorney to the German Consulates in Miami, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia. He was certified as fluent in the German language through the "German for Law Professionals" program at the Goethe Institute, Bonn, Germany in 2000.
In 2000, Attorney Dumbaugh received the President's Pro Bono Service Award from The Florida Bar, in recognition of his pro bono service to the community. In 2013, he was honored with the Legacy Award by Habitat for Humanity Sarasota, in recognition of his 20-plus years of service to the organization.
Attorney Dumbaugh first became a Board Certified Specialist (B.C.S.) in 1990. Board certified lawyers must meet The Florida Bar's highest standards for special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in the practice of law. Board certified lawyers' experience and competency have been rigorously evaluated, and they are the only Florida lawyers allowed use the letters B.C.S. to indicate Board Certified Specialist when referring to their legal credentials. Only seven percent of eligible Florida Bar members have earned board certification. Lawyers seeking certification must be members in good standing of The Florida Bar and must meet the standards prescribed by the state's Supreme Court.
Attorney Dumbaugh earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Florida in 1974. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, in Political Science and Economics, with a minor degree in German, from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971. A portion of his undergraduate study was at the Universität Basel, Switzerland. He is a member of the legal honorary fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta.
Born in Butler, Pennsylvania, Mr. Dumbaugh has been a Sarasota resident since 1965 and is a graduate of Riverview High School, which honored him with the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Class of 1967 award in 2017.
Paralegal Keri Sell joined Syprett Meshad in 2012, focusing on Real Estate Law and Litigation. She works with Partner John D. Dumbaugh and Managing Partner Nancy E. Cason, assisting with commercial and residential real estate transactions such as sales, purchases, foreclosures, short sales and commercial lending. Her responsibilities include communicating with buyers, sellers, lenders, third party vendors, Associations, surveyors, title insurance underwriters and realtors in all aspects of the closing process, as well as assisting with the preparation of closing documents, HUD-1 Settlement Statements, and overall coordination of closing logistics.

M. Joseph Lieb, Jr. was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1973 and his Juris Doctorate at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Following his graduation from law school in 1976, Mr. Lieb returned to Sarasota where he was admitted to The Florida Bar and was one of Syprett Meshad's original founding partners.
Mr. Lieb has served on the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee of The Florida Bar as well as the Board of Directors of the Sarasota County Bar Association. Mr. Lieb is a founding member of both the John M. Scheb American Inn of Court and the Sarasota Bradenton Chapter of Abota.
During his career with the firm Mr. Lieb practiced in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death and medical malpractice. Michael L. Resnick is the president of Syprett Meshad, and is one of the original founding partners of the firm. For more than 40 years, he has focused his practice on marital and family law. His cases involve marital dissolution and post-dissolution issues involving marital assets, complex property division issues, custody, alimony, child support, visitation, and modification of marital settlement agreements.

Born in Monticello, New York, Mr. Resnick graduated from the New York Military Academy with the rank of Platoon Sergeant.
An active volunteer in his community, Mr. Resnick has been involved for over 30 years with United Cerebral Palsy Sarasota-Manatee, and also serves as a Guardian ad Litem. Since 1996, he and his wife have been rescuing and providing housing and care for cats, dogs, horses, and other animals in need.

In law school, Ms. Cason was appointed to the prestigious Florida Law Review; she served on the publication's Senior Board from 2001-2002 and also served a term in the Executive Board position of Senior Symposium Editor. Ms. Cason was also the recipient of three Book Awards for achieving the top grade in the classes of Contracts, Trial Practice and Land Use Planning. She was a teaching assistant for Contracts, Legal Research and Writing and Appellate Advocacy, and was awarded a Pro Bono Certificate for her dedication to pro bono legal work in law school.
Ms. Cason has continued her pro bono work throughout her legal career by volunteering with the Florida Bar Twelfth Judicial Circuit as a pro bono foreclosure defense attorney. In addition to taking on many pro bono legal cases each year, she has also participated in public service legal projects including the Sarasota County Bar Association's Law in the Library Series. Periodically, she gives free presentations to educate the public on such topics as "Everything you Need to Know to Buy Real Estate," "Landlord/Tenant Law," and "Foreclosure Prevention and Foreclosure Defense." Born in New York City, Ms. Cason was raised in Sarasota, Florida from the age of three. She is deeply committed to the Suncoast community and is an active volunteer with many non-profit organizations. She is a past member of the Board of Directors of Girls Inc., a local non-profit organization which inspires all girls to be "Strong, Smart and Bold." For many years as a young girl, Ms. Cason attended Girls Inc.; she is a passionate supporter of the organization's mission and its role in contributing to the lives and success of young girls in the community.

In 1978, she was admitted to the Alabama Bar and from 1978 until 1985 practiced law in Gadsden, Alabama. She served as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Gadsden, Alabama. In 1982, she was appointed as Deputy District Attorney for Etowah County, Alabama, where she served until 1985, when she moved to Sarasota.
Ms. Jones was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1984. She has an AV© rating from Martindale Hubbell. She has been named a Florida Super Lawyer in the Personal Injury, Plaintiff's General category. "Super Lawyer" designation is a recognition awarded only to the top 5% of the lawyers in the state.
Ms. Jones has served in various capacities in the Sarasota County Bar, including being a member of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee of the Florida Bar, and serving as Chair of that Committee.
