Scott Shanks earned an Associate's degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from The Saint Louis Community College at Forest Park in 1986. After graduation, that same year he was hired to start the Microcomputer Maintainance Area at The University of Missouri Saint Louis (UMSL). Repairing personal computers he learned about operating systems and networking. The local IBM office took an interest in the project and monitored the entire installation as a case study. In 1988 he took a position with the City of Saint Louis' Office of Information and Technology where he assisted in networking the four floors of departmental offices in City Hall. In 1990 he took a position with Clark Oil, networking the three floors of the office building the company occupied in Clayton, MO, and providing computer support for company departmental users. Between 1994 and 2004 Scott worked for two consulting companies, Alliance Systems and Programming and Interchange Technologies providing computer and networking support for many Saint Louis area companies. In 2004 Scott started Strategic Network Consulting and has been providing computer support, networking services, and technical services for home, home office, and small to medium businesses and users ever since.
