holds one of the few doctoral degrees in distance education and its implementation and evaluation. She earned the doctorate from the University of Missouri - St. Louis; master's degree, mass communication, Webster University; and undergraduate degrees in advertising, journalism, and marketing, Washington University. She is the author of the milestone textbook, Guide to Teleconferencing and Distance Learning, 3rd Edition; the editor of ED - Education at a Distance, a journal of research; and authored a number of articles about distance learning. She regularly keynotes on topics in distributed learning. Based on her diverse and long-term activities, Dr. Lane was named to the Teleconferencing and Distance Learning Hall of Fame by Teleconference Magazine, is listed in Who's Who in Telecommunications, and was appointed to the TeleCon Advisory Board.
Dr. Lane has extensive experience evaluating distance and distributed learning projects. Her instructional experience is equally diverse: she is an assistant professor at California State University - Hayward, and the University of California - Berkeley, where she facilitates courses in distance learning and instructional design for distance learning. For ten years, she taught for the Online Division of the University of Phoenix and was department chair of Marketing/Communications. She was a faculty member of the University of Missouri, School of Education and Graduate School of Business.
She was the project start-up director for the Higher Education Channel in St. Louis, a cable channel which served three million homes and fourteen institutions of higher learning. Dr. Lane received numerous Emmy and Addy awards for her work including the Teleconference Magazine Award for Most Significant Advance in Distance Learning for her research on national teleconferencing standards and distance learning.

Joanne Carle-Accornero (Director of Education) has more than twenty years experience in both the technology and education areas. Her expertise is in instructional design for distance and distributed learning, psychology of the adult learner, training methodologies, and testing and evaluations. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Public Services (Adult Education emphasis) and a second Master of Arts degree in Psychology, both from Ball State University, Overseas Division.
