Alex Sommer

Alex Sommer is a Senior Vice President at Tusk where he executes policy and communications campaigns that range from groundbreaking AI legislation to high-level M&A deals. Alex's tenure at Tusk builds on past successes, including leading policy development and rapid response for US Senator Robert Menendez's 2018 reelection campaign. Earlier in his career, Alex was Senior Associate at Mercury. Among his several client engagements, he helped coordinate coalitions and press for a winning $1 billion statewide higher education bond referendum in New Jersey as well as for a coalition pursuing federal immigration reform. Alex also worked at the boutique law firm where he focused on securities and antitrust litigation. In addition, while at Tusk, Alex served as Senior Communications Advisor and speechwriter for Yang for NY, where one publication recognized his work by noting the campaign had a "very good speechwriter." Alex has also worked for several political candidates and organizations. One opinion piece he helped draft for a winning candidate was the most read op-ed in 2020 on a NYC political news site. He also previously held voter protection roles for Democratic National Committee in 2020 and Hillary for America's presidential campaign in 2016. Alex received his J.D. cum laude from Fordham Law School, and his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Alex lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Megan, and their daughter.

Anastasia Bergeron

Anastasia Bergeron is an Associate at Tusk Strategies currently focused on the Crypto + Fintech practice group, which advises clients on regulatory issues at the state and federal level, public policy and communications. Prior to Tusk, Anastasia was a reporter for Bloomberg News and Reorg Research, where she covered state and local finance and the municipal bond market. Additionally, she was a Fall Fellow for the Michigan Democratic Party, supporting Joe Biden's 2020 presidential campaign through grassroots marketing. She previously interned at Mercury Public Affairs, a high-stakes public strategy firm and Desai Accelerator, a startup accelerator for early-stage ventures. Originally from northern New Jersey, Anastasia graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in English and a minor in Business. She completed coursework for the Entrepreneurs Leadership Program within the College of Engineering, which sparked her interest in startups. Anastasia is based out of the New York City office.

Basil Apostolo is the Director of Business Operations for Tusk Holdings where he focuses on technology development and financial analysis while overseeing operations for the Tusk Holdings family of companies. Prior to this role, Basil worked on various teams at Tusk including the New York Strategies team and as a co-producer for Tusk's podcast, Firewall. Prior to Tusk, he worked in Real Estate and Information Technology. Basil holds a B.A. from New York University where he studied Influence through Media & Design. Beth DeFalco - Managing Director

Beth DeFalco is one of the country's top communications strategists, having worked for some of America's most notable elected officials, public agencies, private foundations and news outlets. A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, she uses her extensive press and political experience to lead crisis communications, craft powerful messaging and manage complex media campaigns. Before joining Tusk Strategies, Beth was the chief spokeswoman and communications lead for Bloomberg LP and Philanthropies' U.S. Virgin Islands hurricane recovery efforts. She also worked on the 2018 Bloomberg Global Business Forum, convening more than 70 world leaders and 200 CEOs to address the global economic future. Prior to that, Beth worked in New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's administration as the MTA's Communications Director and chief spokeswoman for the New York City subway. She managed a 24-hour press operation, fielding dozens of daily media inquiries in the largest, harshest media market in the country and oversaw all public events, press statements, news conferences, speechwriting and social media content. She also served as a spokeswoman for Governor Cuomo directly on major infrastructure projects, including the $8 billion redevelopment of LaGuardia Airport and the New Year's Eve opening of the Second Avenue Subway. Previously, Beth served as the Communications Director to U.S. Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, where she oversaw all communications for his U.S. Senate office and 2014 re-election campaign and helped manage Booker's digital brand. On the media side, Beth has worked as a writer and editor for the Associated Press, New York Post, The Arizona Republic and The Denver Post. Beth graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a bachelor's degree in journalism. She lives in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood and is addicted to home improvement projects.

Chris Coffey - CEO

Chris Coffey is the CEO of Tusk Strategies. He led the New York and New Jersey practice for Tusk Ventures and for Tusk Strategies for 9 years before taking over as CEO of Tusk Strategies in 2021. He's run successful political & legislative efforts in cities and states across the country. In New York, he specializes in creating major media campaigns that dominate news coverage for weeks at a time. Successful examples include Uber, Latch, Bird, Bloomberg and NYCLASS. In 2017, he served as a senior strategist to Corey Johnson's winning campaign for Speaker of the New York City Council, and the New York Times called him an informal advisor to Governor Andrew Cuomo's 2018 election efforts. He led Tusk's work on Andrew Yang's 2021 campaign for NYC Mayor as Co-Campaign Manager. Chris also advises U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY). Prior to joining Tusk, Chris worked for Mike Bloomberg for 12 years at City Hall, on Mike's three electoral campaigns, and at Bloomberg L.P. During Chris' time in City government, he helped set up the first-ever NYC Digital Office at the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment. He co-authored the Roadmap for the Digital City, which Mayor Bloomberg unveiled as the first digital blueprint for City government in the nation. Before that, Chris worked on the 2009 Bloomberg campaign as a senior communications strategist, as First Deputy Commissioner of the Mayor's Community Assistance Unit where he helped manage the Mayor's community relationships, and as an assistant press secretary and director of Mayor Bloomberg's advance team. Chris serves as the Chair of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy and sits on the boards of Women in Need (WIN), the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), and The Trevor Project, which works to prevent suicides in LGBTQ+ teens. Cristóbal Alex

Cristóbal Alex is a senior government, political and advocacy leader. He is a Managing Director of Tusk Strategies, and has leadership roles in Pericles - a new Tusk Holdings company - which works with early stage startups solely in return for equity, and with Tusk Philanthropies on mobile voting and ending child hunger. Prior to joining Tusk, Cristóbal served as the White House Deputy Cabinet Secretary linking the White House and Cabinet, and supporting agency coordination on a portfolio of the President's top priorities, including the historic American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and a whole-of-government approach to promote equity. Among Biden for President's first hires, Cristóbal served as a Senior Advisor to Joe Biden where he helped develop and implement state and national strategy, including the primary campaign's political and coalition efforts, and served on the Biden-Sanders Unity Taskforce, and later on the Presidential Transition Team. Prior to that, Cristóbal was the founding President of the Latino Victory Fund helping elect more than 70 candidates to office, from the school board to the U.S. Senate. After successfully building the organization, Cristóbal served as Hillary for America's National Deputy Director of Voter Outreach and Mobilization where he managed a team to register, persuade, and mobilize the core coalition groups that form the base of the Democratic Party as well as the Expansion States program to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 37 states. Before joining Tusk, Dani worked at the Tory Burch L.L.C. headquarters in New York City - a women-led fashion powerhouse that emphasizes ambition and service. Eric Soufer

Eric Soufer is a Partner at Tusk Strategies. He leads the firm's Crypto + FinTech practice group where he manages campaigns on behalf of some of the fastest growing companies in the industry. The practice group, launched in 2021 and recognized by The New York Times, Bloomberg, and Politico, advises clients on state and federal regulatory issues, public policy, and high stakes public relations. Eric also oversees a diverse set of campaigns as the leader of Tusk's New York practice, including the winning 2021 campaign to bring Bird scooters to New York City and the historic approval of Apex Crypto's BitLicense in 2022. Apex Crypto is the largest scale crypto entity to have received a BitLicense at time of approval. Prior to joining Tusk, Eric served as a top adviser to two New York Attorneys General, the New York State Assembly Speaker and a Senate Majority Leader. Eric played an instrumental role in multiple historic campaigns, including the winning campaigns for the state's first female Attorney General, first African-American Speaker of the State Assembly, and first bi-partisan governing coalition in the State Senate. Eric is regularly recognized as one of the top public relations and policy professionals in New York by City and State magazine (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022) and is routinely quoted by the Times and other leading publications on political and regulatory issues facing leading national, state, and city office holders. Throughout his career, Greg has focused on the application of advanced analytical methods to enhance decision making. Previous to joining corporate America, Greg spent six years serving in the U.S. Air Force as a finance officer, stationed in Italy, Afghanistan and Georgia.

Henry L. Greenidge - EVP

Henry L. Greenidge is an attorney and government affairs professional with over ten years of experience in policy advising, regulatory affairs, community engagement, and legal advocacy. Jake Sporn is a Senior Vice President who manages public affairs campaigns in Tusk's New York practice, with a focus on political, media, and legislative strategy, With over a decade of experience in media, government and politics to our team, Jake has led campaigns to secure impactful legislative and regulatory victories for Tusk clients including Latch, Bird Scooters, NYCLASS, the Education Equity Campaign and more. As a seasoned political media operative, he has ghostwritten and placed editorials for prominent elected officials, advocates, celebrities and stakeholders that have been published in the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, the NY Daily News, the NY Post, Insider, Fast Company and the Hill. In 2021, Jake served as Press Secretary to Andrew Yang during the NYC Mayoral race, where he developed and executed the campaign's ‘suck up all the oxygen' media strategy while overseeing nearly 150 press conferences and media availabilities, and sending out over 300 media releases in just six months. Prior to Tusk, Jake served as Communications and Policy Director for NYC Councilman Mark Levine where he worked on a diverse range of transportation, housing, healthcare and urban policy issues. He also executed a national media campaign highlighting the City's first-in-the-nation "Right to Counsel" law, which guarantees legal representation for tenants fighting eviction in housing court. He is most passionate about helping innovative companies turn bold visions of the future into reality. Prior to Tusk, Jarrett was a researcher at the RAND Corporation where he helped federal clients within the DOD, DHS, and DOJ strategize around the risks and opportunities presented by emerging technologies. While at RAND, he also wrote a dissertation analyzing how cities in Los Angeles County responded to the arrival of the shared electric scooter industry. Jarrett began his career as a staffer for several members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Jarrett holds a PhD and M.A. in Public Policy Analysis from the Pardee RAND Graduate School and a B.A. in Political Science from Westmont College. Jarrett was born and raised in Southern California and is based out of Tusk's L.A. office. He lives in L.A. with his wife, Chelsea.

Jin Sohn

Prior to joining Tusk, Jin served in Chief-of-Staff responsibilities for startups worldwide. Most notably, she was Executive Analyst to the CEO at Lucid, a market research tech startup, where she helped to scale the company to its $1B valuation. With extensive experience abroad, she worked with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to complete a study on digital entrepreneurship for economic resilience in Southeast Asia. She previously interned with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) at the Global Innovation Lab supporting projects to advance public-private partnerships. Jin holds an MBA from the Asia School of Business in collaboration with MIT Sloan School of Management, where she served as Student Association Co-President and received the Dean's List Award. She has developed and executed campaigns responsible for growing a digital pharmacy start-up from five to 40+ markets in one year, securing millions of dollars in government funding for a supply chain start-up to conduct mass Covid-19 testing and vaccinations, and building an NFT coalition to advocate for responsible regulations. Kristina brings 15+ years of experience working at the intersection of law, policy, and politics at two global law firms, the National Federation of Independent Business, the American Enterprise Institute, and the Massachusetts Legislature. She has managed issue and advocacy campaigns at the federal level and in all 50 states. Her policy expertise is broad-based spanning privacy, healthcare, e-commerce, and gig-economy. Kristina also draws upon her niche knowledge of having worked with State Attorneys General in their role as regulators, policymakers, and politicians. Marla Tusk is General Counsel of Tusk Holdings. Prior to joining the company, Marla practiced law in Washington, D.C. She spent three years as a Trial Attorney in the National Security Division at the Department of Justice and five years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, where she served as Chief of the Appellate Unit. During her time as a federal prosecutor, Marla worked for several years in the Fraud and Public Corruption Unit, where she focused on the investigation, prosecution, and trial of complex fraud and public corruption cases. Marla received her J.D. in 2003 from Columbia Law School, where she was a James Kent Scholar and Managing Editor of the Law Review.

Matt Homer

Matt Homer is a Senior Advisor to Tusk Strategies and a full-time investor and advisor to early stage companies operating in the cryptocurrency space. He was previously the primary regulator for many of the country's latest cryptocurrency firms. Matt has been in the fintech space for over a decade, working in various roles at the intersection of technology, finance, policy, and social impact. Currently an Executive in Residence at Nyca Partners, a fintech venture capital firm, Matt invests in companies that are mainstreaming the digital asset economy and bridging the gap between crypto and traditional finance. Prior to entering the venture capital space, Matt founded and ran the Research and Innovation Division at the New York Department of Financial Services (DFS), where he led efforts involving fintech, crypto, insurtech, and regtech. In that role, he also oversaw the Department's licensing and supervision of crypto currency companies. Additionally, Matt chaired the Conference of State Bank Supervisor's FinTech Steering Group. Before that, Matt was Head of Policy and Research at Quovo, which was acquired by Plaid during his tenure. Earlier, Matt was with the FDIC and launched two innovation programs with USAID, promoting cashless payments and regtech knowledge-sharing among regulators. He has also served as advisor on regulatory and fintech innovation to the U.N., World Bank, Aspen Institute and Cambridge Center for Alternative Finance.

Prior to joining Tusk in 2016, she was a development consultant for CityScience and a project manager for the Lowline Lab, a prototype underground park on the Lower East Side. Meaghan also worked in nonprofit programming and development roles at Village Preservation and the Waterfront Alliance. Meaghan received her B.A. in Geography from Mount Holyoke College, and lives in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn with her wife.

Meg Pisarczyk

Meg Pisarczyk is a Senior Associate specializing in state and multi-jurisdictional campaigns. She conducts much of our opposition research practice and has experience developing campaign strategies, building coalitions, and engaging with legislation at all levels of government. Meg works with the rest of the Tusk Strategies team to advise clients on existing regulatory hurdles and tracks new developments across the healthcare, technology, nonprofit, and food and beverage sectors. Prior to joining Tusk, Meg worked at Ascend Justice (formerly the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic), where she helped clients navigate the court system and file petitions for Emergency Orders of Protection. Before this, she was a Research Assistant at the American Bar Foundation. She has also assisted the Tusk Philanthropies team with its anti-hunger campaigns. Meg graduated cum laude from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Social Policy and second major in Legal Studies. During her time at NU she was admitted to an intensive summer program at Peking University in Beijing and received an award for her research on prisoner litigation. Seth Webb - Managing Director

Seth Webb co-leads Tusk's Transportation and Infrastructure Innovation Practice helping mobility and digital infrastructure innovators remove regulatory roadblocks and win government business across all 50 states. A specific focus of the practice is helping companies leverage the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) in multiple jurisdictions at scale. Seth brings decades of experience helping companies work with local government. For the last six years, he's led regulatory campaigns, business development and strategic partnerships for Tusk clients including Nexar, Lacuna, Unqork, Indigov, National Retail Federation, and Eaze. Prior to Tusk, he served as the Town Manager of the ski-resort community Killington, Vermont where he led multimodal transportation planning and reconstruction following Tropical Storm Irene, and helped establish Killington as a four-season tourist destination. He previously worked as a Director for Civic Entertainment Group (CEG) in New York City where he managed public engagement campaigns for national brands including CNN, A&E, The History Channel and I Love NY. Before CEG, Seth served as Special Assistant to the Governor of Illinois managing statewide economic development programs, health care campaigns, and gubernatorial events. Seth also worked as the Director of Marketing and Special Events for the NYC Parks Department where he produced major concerts and events in Central Park including: Sting Live, Sheryl Crow and Friends, and the Dalai Lama's Public Address. Seth received a B.A. from Kenyon College in Ohio. He is based out of our Vermont office.

Shontell Smith - EVP

Shontell Smith is an attorney and government affairs professional with over a decade of legislative and political expertise. She is currently an Executive Vice President at Tusk Strategies, overseeing public policy campaigns in New York and across the country. Before joining Tusk, Shontell served as Chief of Staff and Chief Counsel to the New York State Senate Majority Conference. In that role she was responsible for managing the legal, financial, communications, and public policy departments for the Majority. She also oversaw the daily operations of the Senate and served as the Senate's lead negotiator with stakeholders in and out of government including the enactment of the annual state budget and the passage of all legislation. During her tenure with the Senate Majority, she negotiated and ensured the passage of groundbreaking legislation on issues such as voting reforms, gun safety, women's rights and health care, DREAMers and other New Americans, LGBTQ rights, criminal justice reform, cannabis legalization, affordable housing, and workplace harassment prevention. Prior to becoming Chief of Staff and Majority Counsel, Shontell served as Floor Counsel, Minority Counsel, and Director of Counsel and Finance for the Senate Democratic Minority. Shontell received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from Siena College and her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law. After graduating law school, she worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Michael E. Loney for the Anne Arundel Circuit Court in Maryland. She is admitted to practice law in New York.
