Hey, Listen Up! - An Urban Eco-Literacy Project, Curriculum & Interctive CD-ROM sponsored by the Urban Habitat Program of the Earth Island Institute, San Francisco., CA. This educational project on environmental justice (environmental racism) included on-site multimedia workshops with high-school youths in Urban Los Angeles (Watts, Compton) resulting in a locally produced interactive CD-ROM created in part by the participants of the involved communities. As multimedia consultan, director, and co-producer of this project, I instructed the multimedia workshops, co- designed a multimedia curriculum on environmental issues for high school students, and directed/produced the collaborative Hey Listen Up! interactive CD-ROM. JoAnn (Jody) Gillerman, co-founder of Viper Vertex Interactive is a California-based media artist, videographer and educator producing interactive multimedia exhibits, installations, CD-ROMs, internet Web sites, and video. Her works integrate art, science, culture and technology. Ms. Gillerman is professor of electronic and media arts at California College of the Arts (formerly California College of Arts and Crafts) in Oakland and San Francisco, CA. She teaches interactive multimedia, video production, DVD authoring, media literacy and installation. Formally trained in fine arts (drawing/painting, printmaking and video) her experimentation in new media includes: multimedia exhibits, computer graphics and computer arts. She combines a highly developed fine arts aesthetic with a thorough practical knowledge of video and computers. A personal passion has led her to produce video and multimedia works using source material of total solar eclipses and active volcanic lava flows that she records on location around the world. Her multimedia works of these phenomena have been shown, broadcast, screened and exhibited nationally and internationally. Ms. Gillerman co-developed the LIAISON system (Live Interactive Animal Identification System and Observation Network) and a prototype Chimp FInder that was installed as at the St. Louis Zoo. She also co-produced "Hey, Listen Up!" - an urban eco-literacy project on environmental racism - that includes an interactive CD-ROM and high-school curriculum for providing information and education on environmental justice, a project sponsored by Urban Habitat, San Francisco, California. Permanent interactive installations and exhibits include "Shadow Dance: an Interactive Eclipse Exhibit" at Chabot Space and Sicence Center, Chimp Finder at St. Louis Zoo, and the "Innovation Forum" Exhibit at The Tech Museum of Innovation, San Jose, CA. Her works have been shown nationally and internationally in museums, galleries, universities, festivals, television broadcasts, on-line and public venues. Writings by and about the artist appear in books, print and on-line in Artweek, Leonardo: Journal for Art, Science and Technology, Artswire: interactive arts conferencing forum and on her Web site: www.vipervertex.com. Ms. Gillerman received her MFA at the Art Institute of Chicago, IL and her BA at Duke University, N.C. JoAnn Gillerman has been vidotaping and photographing active volcanic lava flows and total solar eclipses around the world for decades. Robert Terry

Robert Terry, co-founder of Viper Vertex, has a wide range of expertise in Information Science and an extensive background in electronic multimedia. Mr. Terry has technically produced/mastered many widely distributed CD-ROM's and DVD's. He has also designed and developed numerous web sites - both for information and for secure e-commerce. Mr. Terry is currently a freelance software engineer and has recently designed and prototyped a network based 'strategic bioinformatics tool under the direction of Dr. Laura Esserman; University California San Francisco Medical. Other current work includes contributing to the design and development of an innovative non-invasive breast cancer detection device (The Kennedy Institute, Oakland Ca), and the production of an interactive multimedia information/communication hybrid DVD for El Camino Hospital, Mountain View California. Additionally Mr. Terry is currently producing, designing and developing a bio-metric recognition system for LIAISON Systems/Viper Vertex. This unique system was first commissioned and successfully installed at the St Louis Zoo. St Louis Missouri. 'Chimp Finder' was first introduced to the public in spring 2005. Mr. Terry was formerly the Director of web technology and strategy for Wholepeople.com, (Whole Foods Inc.) and a Senior Technical Manager responsible for developing major e-commerce and public information projects for SGI, CNET and PC-World. He has produced and cumulatively managed the development of over 24 commercially available software products for companies including SGI, CNET, PC World, Island Graphics, Everex, Dinippon Screen and Unda Oy. Mr. Terry has a 20+-year background in computer product development and creating innovative and engaging user interfaces. He is an accomplished computer software designer, developer, information architect, technical visionary and a talented team leader with an exceptional track record in bringing innovative new products to the market.
