Rachel Cavitt are truly the "First Family" of Alaska furniture stores. Their company, Furniture Enterprises of Alaska, was built from one store at a time into their current 13 store group. Dave started his career in home furnishings in 1975 as the first employee of Sadler's Furniture. He was a delivery man, salesperson, manager; learning the business from the ground up. He eventually became a partner in Sadler's. During this time, Rachel was in airline management, marketing and sales. In 1988, Rachel and Dave purchased Sadler's. While the Cavitt's were growing Sadler's, they saw the need for a higher end store that would specialize in made to order furniture and interior design. In 1992, they opened Williams and Kay. The next to open was Alaska's only La Z Boy store. And in 1995 they believed Alaska should have a mattress store that featured luxury level mattresses so they opened The Ultimate Mattress store. In the next several years Ashley Home Store in Anchorage and in Fairbanks were opened. The Cavitt's became the Alaska franchise for Mattress Firm in 2016 opening four locations.
