WIRED ISLAND - Key Persons

Candie Watkins

Candie has been pitching the press since they were banging out their stories on manual typewriters…almost anyway. A seasoned veteran of tech PR, she provides an attention to detail that covers up any cracks through which things often fall. A native of Silicon Valley but world journeyer by nature, she takes the island philosophy seriously, holding down our bureau in the Dominican Republic where she now calls home.

Chris De Sa

Chris is the SEO guru who Google wishes they had on their side. The dude's a magician who can literally make your needle jump out of the digital haystack that is search today. He's cut his teeth on all types of digital marketing and automation, from lead gen to online discovery. Chris works out of his man cave somewhere north of the border and we actually don't even know what he looks like. Seriously.

Ian Taylor

Job Titles:
  • International Agent
Taylor, Ian Taylor. Ian runs our European outpost with Bond-like smoothness and agility mixing with journalists as coolly as gin takes to tonic. A multi-lingual talent, with British sensibilities and dry wit, Ian's calm demeanor and charm belie a fervent creative energy constantly brewing beneath the surface. With an eye for detail, he is a master at turning a phrase with remarkable precision, and possesses a striking sixth sense for the perfect venue to entertain. Countless high-level assignments have seen him criss-crossing the globe, elevating his clients' messaging with hitman-like effectiveness.

Katie Gerald

Proof that not all Gen Z's are averse to hard work, Katie brings youthful energy and insatiable appetite to learn to the Wired Island team. A quick study on the latest tech, she is adept at scouring media databases and news monitoring services to tune all the right knobs on our client's communication programs. An old soul who blends with us old timers, she doesn't even have a TikTok account (yet).

Lynda Kaye

Lynda, our long-term partner at Kaye PR, adds technical chops to the WI team as she is the only one among us who has ever actually designed a computer chip. She has since honed her PR and comm skills to be able to provide expert advice on messaging strategy to the most techy of clients, always delivered with her unique flair and style. Based west of the west coast in beautiful Tofino, BC, her zoom calls often include a view of orcas passing by her office window (and we know it's not a fake background)

Mandy Townsend

Job Titles:
  • Task Master
Mandy brings a distinctive Southern Charm to the Wired Island operation, disarming ornery journalists with her genuine Charleston accent and sparkle. And she keeps the lights on at the office with finely tuned organizational skills, not to mention always appreciated donut deliveries just at the right moment.

Manisha Tolani

Job Titles:
  • Strategy
Based in New York City, Manisha combines style and substance in a bona fide package of communications skills for a new era. A designer extraordinaire and a wordsmith to boot, when she's not busy styling for clients, she can be found searching for the next great Chelsea coffee shop.

Mike Sottak

Job Titles:
  • Chief Bottle Washer
Mike has been around just about every block in high tech PR and Marketing, and puts his experience of more-years-than-he'd-like-to-admit to work for Wired Island clients every day. Trained in the trenches of Silicon Valley and schooled by working internationally most of his career, Mike can still remember the day 20 years ago when the glimmer in his eye gave birth to Wired Island.

Noel Thevenet

Noel adds a special je ne sais pas quoi to the Wired Island program from her base in the City of Light. A California girl at heart, her years of living and working in the French tech ecosystem gives her a unique insight how European companies can best position themselves for success on the other side of the pond. When not working the room at the hippest tech meet-ups and gatherings, Noel keeps busy developing marketing strategies that are unhindered by language or cultural differences.

Rebecca Renner

Rebecca's friendly smile and outgoing personality belie her street toughness that she uses to fight for every client result. A closet hipster, she can Insta with the best of them but still gets that press coverage is the holy grail. She's never met a hashtag she couldn't work into a client's post.

Ron Wilson

Our master scribe and translator of superfluous jargon, this wily veteran draws on his award-winning tech journalism experience to weave masterful prose on even the most arcane topics. A fan of the Oxford comma and an AP style guide always at the ready, Ron cuts to the essence of technology nuances no matter what overbearing word count he is confined to. Don't mind the print ink on his fingers, a residue of the golden age of journalism he occasionally pines for.

Tim Thomas

Nobody embodies the ‘marketing without borders' mentality of Wired Island more than our web developer. This multi-passport holding globetrotter is part Jason Bourne, part MacGyver, with a little Anthony Bourdain. Tim has never met a hotspot he can't crack - or a customs agent that won't let him pass. When not changing his IP address, he's solving every web conundrum we find. Even an Icelandic tour bus running over his laptop can't slow him down (true story).

Toni Sottak

The backbone of the operation, Toni keeps the ship sailing on course and all the crew rowing in the right direction. Her extensive PR skills deliver proven results to clients worldwide, and it's always service with a smile. Den mother and nurturer to the Wired Island team and clients alike, her maternal nature makes for a happy family all around.
