Ian Troughton - CEO

Ian was appointed CEO in October 2006 and is based at 4RF's headquarters in New Zealand. Ian has been a Director of 4RF since 2003. Prior to joining 4RF Ian worked for Australian specialist merchant bank, Carnegie Wylie & Co (now part of Lazard). Ian has also worked for investment bank Credit Suisse in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. His experience spans the utility, resources, transport, telecoms, media, technology, food and beverage, insurance and government sectors. Ian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Oxford.

John Yaldwyn - CTO

John is 4RF's founding Director. He led the development of the initial Aprisa platforms and continues to contribute to new product designs. He is also responsible for the regulatory function within 4RF. Prior to forming 4RF in 1998, John held senior engineering and management roles with MAS Technology for 13 years and travelled extensively, liaising with customers worldwide. His engineering skills and in-market experience helped shape the pivotal architecture and system design of the DXR™ 100 and 200 product families and he was instrumental, as MAS Vice President Advanced Systems, in the Nasdaq IPO. Following the merger with DMC in 1997, he was appointed Marketing Vice President and developed the design of the DXR™ 700 platform.

Kelly Sun

Kelly was appointed as Group Financial Controller in March 2023 having previously held positions at 4RF as Finance Manager. Leading the Finance team at the headquarters in New Zealand, Kelly is responsible for the group's financial functions, including accounting, audit, treasury and corporate finance. Kelly has had a career of over 15 years in providing professional services across a broad range of industries including technology, construction, and hospitality. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Professional Accounting and is a certified member of Charted Accountants Australia New Zealand.

Nevil Green

Nevil was appointed as Director of Global Supply Chain in early 2022 having previously held positions at 4RF as Supply Chain Manager, NPI Manager and Planning Manager. Educated in Electronics and Software Engineering, Nevil has over 20 years of experience in the development and production of digital microwave radios having worked closely on all DXR product families at MAS Technology. Upon the merger with Digital Microwave Corporation, Nevil rose to the position of Engineer Services Manager (NZ) before joining 4RF in June 2005. As well as managing the supply chain at 4RF Nevil is also responsible for quality.

Owen Borlase

Owen has had various roles over 15 years at 4RF and has been heavily involved in the R&D development of all products. He graduated with a Masters of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Canterbury University in New Zealand. He then progressed through an RF Designer career that involved the development of two way radio receiver designs at Tait Electronics at VHF and UHF frequencies. Following this, he joined DMC Stratex Networks (formerly MAS) where he was actively involved in design of many of the RF sections that make up the digital microwave radios. This included both system and circuit level design over the frequency range of 300 MHz to 40 GHz, to support high level digital modulations with data rated from 22 kbps to 35 Mbps.

Steve Moffat - COO

Steve was appointed Chief Operating Officer in April 2008, with responsibility for R&D, Manufacturing and Customer Services. Steve joined 4RF in 2001 as a process engineer and was later promoted to Manufacturing NPI Manager with responsibility for test and production engineering. In 2004 he was promoted to Customer Service Manager where he was responsible for delivering first-class services from network design and planning through to implementation and ongoing support. Before joining 4RF Communications, Steve managed the production of RF components for the DXR700 radio with DMC Stratex, and also served with the Royal New Zealand Air Force for nine years in avionic engineering.
