Charles (Bill) Bear was a local icon. As a gift to the community and with the blessing of the Conservancy, Bill volunteered his efforts and a great deal of money to restore the landscaping of a local historical treasure, the sacred Fort Salem enclosure, an Indian burial mound. Landscaping this area came with its challenges… trees needed to be removed without disrupting the ground, for example! Bill and his crew dedicated 14 hour days to remove trees, and return the dirt in this labor-intensive project. You see the Indians kept their grounds in pristine condition.
