My interests in fashion were sparked early by my mother in my birthplace of Washington D.C. My mother was a seamstress who worked at small cleaners there where she would perform alterations and repairs on clients clothing. In my youth I would attend work with her and was in awe of the machinery and technique she used to create and repair garments. Being the youngest of seven children, most of my clothes were hand me downs or they were made by my mother. I played dress-up with the scraps from my mother's sewing projects and made fashion for my Barbie dolls... My mother noticed my interest in fashion and began to teach me everything she knew about sewing. I never had any formal school training in sewing and designing garments, other than what I learn in grade school and few classes taken at various fabric store franchises. Most of my talent was enhanced from reading, studying fashion magazines, books on fashion and patterning making.
