EcoDesign was established in 2009. However, its founder (Mr. Rigzin Namgyal) has been involved in the passive solar construction business for the last ten years. He was a member of Shesyon Solar Earthworks (SSE), the first institution that started the use of solar energy for construction in Ladakh in 1993. During his stay at SSE Mr. Namgyal took part in all stages of the projects, from design to construction and was the team leader in the execution of Spituk Primary School, Army Sadbhavana Centre and Army guesthouse in Kharu... EcoDesign is based in Ladakh, the northernmost region in the Jammu & Kashmir State of India. It can be characterized as a 'Trans-Himalayan mountain desert'. The minimum temperature in winter is -20° to -35°C and hardly any rainfall. The average altitude is 11,000 feet (3,500m)...
