Kate Schaefers is founder of Encore Life Planning. Kate is a licensed psychologist and coach, focusing on life transitions at midlife and beyond. She teaches as an adjunct faculty member at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, MN. She is a certified retirement coach, through Retirement Options. She is also a member of the Purpose Guild, a joint initiative through the University of Minnesota's Center for Spirituality and Healing and the Inventure Group.
Before becoming an independent consultant, Kate worked for 12 years in human resource development. Her work focused on leadership development, career and life planning, and transition.
Kate earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Iowa State University. She also has an MA degree is from the University of Minnesota, and a BS degree from Loyola University in Chicago.
Kate was a founding board member of "SHIFT," a new, community based nonprofit in Minnesota with a mission of helping people at midlife and beyond connect with greater life meaning and balance. She served on the board of Minnesota Career Development Association from 1996-2004, serving as President in 2002-2003.

Kate has a background in career coaching, human resource development, and psychology. She is an adjunct faculty member at University of St. Thomas, teaching graduate level courses related to career development for individuals and organizations. She is a founding board member of SHiFT, a community based nonprofit helping people at midlife and beyond connect with meaningful work. She is active in the Life Planning Network and Minnesota Career Development Association.
