Abigail Troy

Abigail Troy is a patent attorney who specializes in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Her practice focuses on computer hardware and software, telecommunications, computer networking, business methods, and consumer products. Abby is a former Primary Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where she worked for nearly a decade. During her time at the Patent Office, Abby examined patent applications directed to mechanical devices, including jewelry and fasteners. She also worked on detail as a Training Assistant in the Patent Training Academy and as a Technology Center Trainer in TC 3600. While working full-time at the Patent Office, she obtained her law degree from Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University.

Aina Breen

Alexander Zajac

Alexander Zajac is a patent attorney specializing in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to joining Harrity & Harrity, LLP, he worked with an intellectual property (IP) law firm in Washington, DC, where he drafted and prosecuted patent applications as well as assisting with opinions and litigations. He also worked at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia with Magistrate Judge Alan Kay. While working at his former firm, Alexander attended Georgetown University Law Center. He has been with Harrity since early 2016, which is when he joined the patent field. Previously, Christian obtained experience in a variety of fields as a temp worker. Outside of Harrity, Christian works as a youth dive coach, a role he has held for many years. His favorite part of Harrity is the work/life balance; the flexibility allows him to work around his coaching schedule, which is quite demanding during the summer. Clarissa Brandt is a member of the Patent Prosecution Support Team. Clarissa stumbled into patent law by accident and discovered a real passion for it. Serving as a Patent Prosecution Specialist at Harrity since 2020, Clarissa brought two years of previous patent experience and a few years of family law experience with her. She loves the marriage of English, Science, and Law that the Patent field allots and remains fascinated by the nuances of this field. Outside of the office, she is an avid reader, runner, and foodie. If she isn't running a 5K, hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, or biking with her husband, she can usually be found catching up with friends discovering a new restaurant in her area of South Carolina. On rainy days she will likely be curled up in a chair with Taylor Swift and her cat or dog, reading anything she can get her hands on. In the spring she volunteers as a coach for Girls On The Run at a local middle school. GOTR works to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident through running. Clarissa is passionate about empowering others and building up a new generation of able, independent women. Clarissa loves the flexibility that remote working at Harrity provides. Elaine Spector

Eli Mazour

Eli Mazour leads the firm's patent prosecution team with a focus on helping large technology companies build valuable, high-quality patent portfolios in an efficient manner. In this role, he develops and implements best practices for managing workflow and innovative, data-driven patent prosecution strategies for reaching favorable results at the USPTO. Eli personally has experience preparing and prosecuting hundreds of patent applications related to computer software, Internet and e-commerce, telecommunications, networking devices, electronic consumer products, and medical devices. Although Eli is known for being able to successfully reach agreements with USPTO patent examiners for clients' most important patent applications, he is equally skilled at identifying and successfully utilizing alternative channels within the USPTO when that is not possible. In one such instance, the PTAB recently ruled in favor of one the firm's oldest clients after Eli argued in an Oral Hearing. Eli also helps clients evaluate existing patent portfolios, identify strategic areas for patenting, and create processes for harvesting disclosures of patentable inventions. In addition, he has been involved with licensing negotiations, patent infringement investigations, clearance of products (freedom to operate opinions), and patent litigation. As a result, he is keenly aware of the pitfalls to avoid and opportunities to grasp during patent prosecution. Jafar Ali

Jafar Ali is an expert in the patent prosecution field. His practice primarily consists of preparing and prosecuting new patent applications. He also has experience working on complex patent prosecution matters, including reissue and reexamination proceedings, drafting letters of instruction to foreign counsel regarding the prosecution of PCT and national stage applications filed abroad, preparing opinions and analysis regarding patentability, infringement, and freedom-to-operate investigations, reviewing and responding to opposing counsel regarding cease-and-desist letters and other threatened litigation, and analyzing intellectual property issues involved in transactional due diligence. Jan Owen

Jan Owen has worked in the patent law field for over 13 years, drafting and prosecuting patent applications over a range of technologies. These technologies include telecommunications, machine learning, image processing, object detection, RFID devices, User Interfaces, augmented and virtual reality, and data security. Jan has also drafted and prosecuted patent applications across a variety of jurisdictions. Prior to working in the patent law field, Jan worked for 17 years as an R&D engineer for Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies. As an R&D engineer, Jan helped develop one-box testers for mobile phone manufacturers in the cellular industry. More particularly, Jan worked as a Digital Signal Processing Engineer, and, as part of a team, helped implement real-time demodulation of over-the-air signals, integrate and support real-time data delivery across multiple subsystems for maintaining a wireless link, and develop algorithms for measuring signal quality. Her development experience includes embedded systems, real-time processing, multi-threaded environments, and multi-processor systems. Jazmine Settle

Prior to joining Harrity, Jazmine worked at Noah Consultant LLC as a Customer Service Representative/Loan Processor and worked in Collections. Jazmine's hobbies include crafting, interior design, and assisting family and friends with event planning. She also enjoys being outdoors with her son and traveling with family. Jim Nuxoll

Jim Nuxoll specializes in drafting and preparing patent applications for our clients. Jim has over twenty-five years of experience in the semiconductor industry, including having served on Micron Technology's patent committee. A listed inventor on nine U.S. patents, Jim has experience drafting patent applications covering various aspects in the field of semiconductors. These aspects include methods and systems drawn to semiconductor wafer fabrication, semiconductor wafer level testing, semiconductor wafer level packaging, multi-chip and system-in-package packaging semiconductor manufacturing tools, and memory system architecture. Jim also has experience drafting patent applications related to telecommunications and various computing systems. Jim Weixel is a patent attorney with over 20 years of in-house and law firm experience in patent procurement enforcement and in IP operations. Jim leverages his extensive experience to help clients obtain patents, improve IP operations, and implement IP strategies. Jim began his patent career at Verizon after a 15 year career as an electrical engineer at BBN Technologies, an R&D unit of Verizon. As a patent attorney, Jim worked with BBN to transform it from an organization that rarely patented innovations to an aggressive patent filer. During Jim's tenure, BBN filed over 300 patent applications covering technologies such as speech recognition, computer networking, ad hoc wireless networks, quantum networking, image processing, signal processing, and acoustic sensors. BBN's robust patent portfolio was a significant value driver when BBN was sold to a venture capital partnership in 2004. After leaving Verizon, Jim worked for Bowditch & Dewey, LLP. and Harrity & Harrity, LLP. preparing and prosecuting patent applications on behalf of clients. In addition, Jim worked with small to mid-size clients to implement effective patent programs to protect innovation and drive portfolio growth. Jim returned to in-house practice at The MathWorks, Inc. where he managed the company's patent team. During Jim's tenure, MathWorks portfolio grew by more than 700 patents. John has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in a wide variety of electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical technologies. He excels at coming up to speed quickly on inventions and converting even the most difficult inventions into an understandable patent application. John's practice further includes filing PCT applications and prosecuting patent applications before the Patent Offices in Europe, Japan, Korea, China, Canada, and many other countries. Prior to forming Harrity & Harrity, John worked as a law clerk at Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathis, LLP. He also was a Primary Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. At the Patent Office, John examined patent applications in the areas of computer hardware and software. Prior to joining the Patent Office, John worked as an Electrical Engineer for 3 years at Cortana Corporation, where he participated in, and supervised Navy projects directed to advanced submarine technologies. His engineering experience included design and development of noise-cancellation technology, an automated submarine emergency system, and future submarine power systems. Jorden started doing research to determine which local fire station was the one that would respond to each Harrity & Harrity employee's home across the country in case of emergency. After delivering pizzas to the Centreville fire station on Friday, Jorden is now scheduling deliveries to fire stations in states across the country. Jorden, who is a member of service clubs at Centreville High School, said her father's efforts since his heart attack have inspired her to help others. She told Patch about her new appreciation for the value of community service and plans to continue working to help others during her senior year and when she heads off to college in the fall of 2021.
