Jean Robinson-Dexter

Jean brings over thirty years of experience to Horizons Community Development Associates Inc. As a graduate of Dalhousie University's Recreation degree program and a recipient of its Exemplary Leadership alumni award, she has educational and practical background in population health and health promotion, child and youth health, injury prevention, particularly falls prevention, community development, policy and planning. Jean is a seasoned project manager, facilitator and adult educator and has had the opportunity to work with groups ranging from rural community organizations, regional networks, provincial not for profits, government, and national initiatives. Through her professional and volunteer experience, she has also been responsible for the planning and coordination of a wide variety of consultations, conferences, workshops, and festivals and events in national, regional, provincial and community settings. Jean has become a strong advocate of and mentor for working from the population health approach and moving to incorporating it into community action, building healthy and sustainable communities. She has worked across Nova Scotia with community groups and provincial organizations to integrate population health in their work, and has presented the results of this work to Atlantic Canadian and national audiences. Jean has a Bachelor of Recreation from Dalhousie University, a Certificate in Asset Mapping from Acadia University's Centre for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and has completed the Canadian Injury Prevention and Control Curriculum. Jean is a member of the International Association for Community Development, the Community Development Society, the Atlantic Network on Injury Prevention, and the Canadian Evaluation Society. At a local level, she is the chair of the biennial Liverpool International Theatre Festival, a producer of community theatre, and participates in a number of additional community initiatives.

Paula Hutchinson

Paula is an experienced evaluator, facilitator, and trainer with an M.A. in Educational Psychology and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Health. Paula has worked in program development and evaluation for over 20 years. Paula's training and experience have enabled her to work with every sector (i.e., non-profit, health, education, and community services) and with a range of groups, organizations, and health care leaders on a wide range of initiatives. She has developed and conducted evaluations, including those involving people with disabilities, marginalized and rural communities, families in crisis, disability advocacy groups, mental health and addiction programs, and health promotion initiatives. Paula has worked closely with community members, non-profits, the Department of Health and Wellness, IWK Health Center, Nova Scotia Health Authority, and Dalhousie University conducting all types of evaluation, data analysis, evidence-based reviews, and accessible knowledge translation of findings and evidence. Paula has organized and facilitated community consultations to generate utilization-focused recommendations and influence policy changes. She has developed and delivered online and in-person training for professional, para-professionals, and caregivers. Paula has taught courses at both the Undergraduate and Masters level, focusing on evaluation, inclusive practices for persons with a disability, and family system approaches across the lifespan. Working collaboratively with others, Paula draws on her formal education and extensive work experience as an independent evaluator and consultant to support clients in "real-world" strategic planning and evaluation.

Vicki Crowell

Vicki graduated, with honors, from the Office Information Technology Program at the Nova Scotia Community College, Kingstec Campus. Her strength is providing the behind-the-scenes administrative and technical support to keep our organization running smoothly. Vicki enjoys reading, camping, traveling, and movies. She lives in Melanson in the Annapolis Valley with her family.
