Bibi Motala

Bibi Motala is an Associate in ENSafrica's Shipping, Ports and Logistics department, specialising in maritime law. Bibi has assisted in matters on behalf of vessel owners and operators, as well as various trade associations that represent their interests and their insurers (including hull underwriters and protection and indemnity clubs). She has also acted for mortgagee banks, ship agents and clearing and forwarding agents. Bibi's experience includes processing and defending maritime claims and logistics-related claims in the South African High Court, and advising on matters relating to the sale of vessels, charter parties, contracts of affreightment, bills of lading and waybills. Bibi is a member of the Maritime Law Association of South Africa and is currently undertaking studies with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Catherine Moodie

Catherine Moodie (FICS) became an ICS member in 2004 and later promoted to Fellow in 2016, elected as the Chairman for the South African branch of the ICS in 2019. Catherine started her shipping career in Richards Bay in 1998 as an Operations secretary and has worked in various roles within the maritime industry. Holding a BComm in Transport and Logistics and now working in completing her Honours. Completed the ICS Qualifying Exams with the Award for Highest Achievement for Economics of Sea Transport in 2004. Catherine travelled and worked in the United Kingdom for twelve years gaining experience in marketing, chartering, ships agency, turnkey logistics solutions, marine insurance, crew contracts and HR support. In 2022 Catherine moved to United Kingdom and currently working a Customs Manager at Casper Limited Shipping in Middlesbrough, England.

Durand Naidoo - Chairman

Durand Naidoo is the Managing Director of the Linsen Nambi Group of Companies, which has interests in bunker delivery services, liquid bulk and dry bulk transport. He is the youngest-ever South African to be promoted to a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, his qualifications include a diploma in Marine Surveying from Lloyd's of London and a Bachelor's degree in Commerce & Maritime Economics.

Gail Jansen van Vuuren

Gail worked in Human Resources for eight years at Richards Bay Coal Terminal, then left to have her daughter. Upon returning to the workplace she joined Panafco which eventually became Panargo/Richards Bay Steamships. Gail returned to RBCT Operations Planning Department for a few years and then joined her current company GAC Shipping, Richards Bay.

Goscelin Gordon

After completing her Master of Laws in Shipping, Goscelin joined the shipping team of a large local law firm where she practised for five years, gaining valuable experience in all facets of maritime law, including but not limited to ship arrests, ship sales and charter party disputes. Goscelin completed her MICS in 2018, obtaining several subject prizes along the way. She is currently consulting for Caveat Legal. Goscelin enjoys spending her free time in the outdoors and enjoying wildlife.

Joan Murphy

Joan has been with MUR Shipping for 22 years. She joined the Company in 1996 as a Girl Friday and moved to the operations team in 2000 upon the successful completion of her Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers Qualifying Examinations. As a senior operator for an owner/operator shipping company with offices worldwide, she has experience in all aspects of dry bulk and break-bulk shipping in several trades. During her tenure in the operations department, she has continued to study, completing a residential shipping law course in London, several certification courses on Dangerous Cargoes & ISMBC, and an MBA in Shipping & Logistics. In February 2019, she was promoted to Head of Department of the Head Fixtures Team. In December 2019, the management of the Post Fixtures Team was included in my portfolio.

Malte Kersten

Malte started his shipping career in Germany and holds two German Shipping degrees, became an officer in the German Navy, then studied membership exams with ‘The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers' and ‘The Chartered Institute of Transport'. He held various management positions in shipping companies up to director level and successfully set-up a whole new agency network for an international shipping line in southern Africa. Currently, Malte is the CEO of ‘Polaris Ship Agencies (PTY) Ltd.' Being the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SAASOA, the ‘South African Associating of Ship Operators and Agents' he is representing all international shipping lines and agents active in the southern African Maritime Industry. He is also a Director of the ‘eThekwini Maritime Cluster', the first Maritime Cluster in South Africa and a Director of the local German School in Durban. So Malte has vast connections and interactions with Government, State-owned entities and other maritime stakeholders. Privately he is a Yachtsman with a passion for the sea.

Theo Scholiadis

Currently the Managing Director of bluVerve Maritime Software, Theo has been in the maritime industry for 12 years. Having studied a Bachelor of Business Science (specialised in Computer Science) at the University of Cape Town, and then a Masters in Shipping, Trade & Transport at the University of the Aegean in Greece, he has worked as a Sale & Purchase broker for Cotzias Shipbrokers and Intermodal Shipbrokers, as well as a software developer for Fortune Technologies, writing software tailored to ship-owning companies. Currently he runs a software company that specialises in the maritime industry.

Tony Norton

Tony is a director at ENS (Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs), and has 26 years of experience as a shipping and logistics attorney specialising in maritime law. He has been a member of the Maritime Law Association of South Africa for 27 years, two as president. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and has been Chairman of the South African Branch. He has been chairperson of the National Port Users Forum, an association of trade associations in the broader shipping industry. He has also lectured and spoken on Maritime Law and Commodity Trading matters at various seminars and forums. He is married to Lynn and enjoys outings with his family as well as reading and relaxing.
