Brett Curry

Brett's work has taken him to Antarctica, to Washington D.C, and from Michigan to Seattle, WA. In Seattle, Brett supervises the local KES team and operations. As Environmental Manager on the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Project, the largest tunnel replacement project in the world, Brett manages daily operations relating to environmental and performs soil sampling, manages soil disposal, permitting, and Section 106 stormwater permitting. Brett has been with KES for more than eight years. As a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead, he oversees environmental controls and water treatment systems. Brett has performed field engineering services for large environmental redevelopment projects and has extensive experience in water treatment operations including reverse osmosis systems. He graduated from Western State College in Colorado with a BS in Biology with a minor in Environmental Law.

Douglas Glen

Doug is based in Seattle, Washington where he works exclusively on the North 125 Light rail Project and Denny Network Project. For seven days a week, Doug focuses on seamless coordination with site supervisors and managing water maintenance systems. Doug is known for his relentless dedication-he's the team member who will take literally any shift! His core duties include environmental monitoring, including water sampling and noise and vibration monitoring. Doug studied at Bellevue Community College and Kirkland Technical Trade School.

Kurt Kroner - VP

Job Titles:

Kurt has more than 27 years of experience in managing environmental compliance programs for large heavy construction projects. His expertise includes every aspect of environmental project management, including planning, permitting, construction management, water quality management, hazardous materials management, remediation services, and environmental review. Kurt served as Environmental Manager on more than 42 heavy civil underground construction projects. Here at KES, environmental impact assessment and monitoring are his specialty. Previous to KES, Kurt served as Environmental Manager for the Freeport Regional Water Authority for Parsons Engineering where he oversaw the EIR, EIS, and permitting phase of the project, which went on to win "Best EIR of the Year" from the Association of Environmental Professionals. Kurt holds a BS from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a Certificate in Hazardous Waste Management from UCLA. He is also a Registered Environmental Assessor with the State of California and a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control.

Michael Wolff

Michael has spent 40 years as a consulting environmental and engineering geologist and more than 27 years in the field. His experience includes extensive environmental management and technical support for construction projects, environmental compliance, soil and groundwater remediation, environmental site assessments, risk assessments, vapor intrusion assessments, preliminary endangerment assessments (PEAs), remediation projects, environmental due diligence projects, and engineering geology projects. In all, Michael has managed or directed more than 300 environmental site investigation and remediation projects at commercial, industrial and public sector sites. He has a BS in Geology from UCLA and is a Registered Professional Geologist (CA #3347), a Certified Engineering Geologist (CA #970 LEED AP, pending) and a Registered Environmental Assessor (CA #2736). He's completed 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training, 8-Hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operator Refresher Certification and OSHA Hazardous Waste Supervisor Certification.

Monica Avina

Monica's role ranges from answering the phone to contract document compliance and data entry and accounts receivables. She supports many of the project needs on the administrative side, including invoice preparation and accounting support.

Nada Khan

Nada holds a BS in Engineering, Bioresource Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada. She joined KES in 2018 to support our team by providing on-site monitoring including gas monitoring, including working with the app developer to develop the app for the insitu gas monitoring; other work to support project managers preparing for underground storage tank removals project support to ensure regulatory compliance which included working on a grading plan. Nada also provides support on AQMD sampling and maintaining noise monitoring terminals.

Philip Chang

Philip offers extensive experience in heavy civil construction projects. He managed permit compliance monitoring and reporting for the Los Angeles Metro Red Line construction, which included developing large-scale continuous water quality data compilation and interpretation programs. Philip also managed several controversial EIR documents, notably for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works projects in San Gabriel Canyon. Additional experience includes developing a proposal and providing revisions and updates to the EAs for Amgen, Inc., as well as analysis for dozens of EIR/EIS involving projects of all sizes. He has a BS from California Institute of Technology and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from University of Southern California.

Philip Jo

Philip brings 15 years of environmental experience to KES, ranging from project management and subsurface remediation system design to RI/FS and Phase I and Phase II assessments. Of all of his skillsets, complex industrial and environmental noise monitoring and solutions are areas where he particularly excels. He has devised end-to-end noise solutions for challenging chemical processing facilities and upstream/downstream oil and gas facilities. He played a key role in overseeing noise and vibration tasks in high-profile transit projects like Alameda Corridor Project and Colorado T-REX Project. After joining KES, Philip led environmental management tasks in BART Silicon Valley Extension, Sound Transit Northgate Link, and Metro Regional Connector by executing noise and vibration control plans, providing mitigation measures, and coordinating time-critical tasks with project teams. He is a State of California Registered Mechanical Engineer (M31651), and a member of Institute of Noise Control Engineering and ASME. He has a BS in Civil Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a MS in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University.

Tamara Kroner - President

Tamara has more than 28 years of experience in managing environmental firms and consulting. As President of KES, she sets the strategies and growth goals for the company. She also manages and operates all aspects of the business, including projects, recruiting and hiring staff, client coordination, contracts, financials, budgets, proposals, vendors and subcontractors. She's just as comfortable working alongside engineers and overseeing EPA and OSHA regulations as she is managing her dedicated team. Prior to KES, Tamara gained environmental expertise throughout 12 years at her father's drilling company, A & R Drilling, Inc., where she rose through the ranks to Vice President. As such, Tamara took a hands-on role in the company's success. As her focus evolved from administrative to the technical side of operations, Tamara's passion for the environmental industry was ignited. She spearheaded initiatives such as designing a customized drilling rig, and marketing the rig at key environmental conferences. She achieved sales growth by bidding and managing projects and staff. Her clients included Unocal Corporation, World Oil, March Air Force Base, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Fluor, IT Corporation and TRW. Tamara has a BA in Economics from UCLA and achieved her MBA from University of California Los Angeles with a focus in Entrepreneurship. She holds a General Engineering Contractors License #861892 with a Hazardous Materials specialty designation, and a Certificate in Hazardous Waste Management from UCLA Extension.

Tom Vernor

Tom is based in Seattle, Washington. While adept at all aspects of environmental services, Tom is especially focused on water treatment and erosion and sediment control; he's thrilled to paid for reliving his childhood joys of tromping around in mud and water. He has experience planning and implementing sand filtration monitoring and control systems, pH neutralization systems, and chemical flocculation systems. For Sound Transit's U-220 project, Tom managed the remote noise monitoring equipment installation and maintenance. On job sites, he's known as the go-to person to fix just about anything. Tom has a solid understanding of environmental regulations as well as the training experience required to transfer operational skills to other team members. He is a Certified Chitosan Enhanced Sand Filtration Field Trainer, a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead, and a Chitosan Enhanced Sand Filtration System Operator.

He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Science from Hohai University in Nanjing, China. He continued his academic journey at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering.
