Jack L. Sheppard

Jack L. Sheppard is a Principal of the firm, received his B.A. in Business Administration from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1976 and his J.D. from the University of West Los Angeles in 1980. Mr. Sheppard was admitted to the California State Bar in 1980. Mr. Sheppard has been engaged in Personal Injury Defense practice since that time, initially as House Counsel for an insurance company for four years and then in private practice. Mr. Sheppard has considerable trial experience and currently handles large exposure cases and Construction Defect Litigation.

James J. Rij

James J. Rij, managing principal, received his B.A. degree, cum laude, in 1974, and Masters in American History, in 1975, from Rutgers University. He was admitted to the California State Bar and received his J.D. in 1980, after graduating from San Fernando College of Law in Los Angeles. Mr. Rij began employment in the insurance industry as an adjuster and litigation claims examiner with G.A.B. Business Services and Alexander & Alexander. His legal practice has exclusively concentrated on Personal Injury Defense, including high exposure premises, vehicle, products, construction and public entity liability cases throughout Southern California. Mr. Rij joined Liebman, Quigley, Sheppard & Soulema in 1986. He is a member of the San Diego Defense Lawyers Association, and holds an "AV" rating with Martindale-Hubbell.

JOHN G. MADSEN

John Madsen is a principal of the firm. He graduated from Trinity University in 1987 and received his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1995 with the American Jurisprudence Award for Trial Practice. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Madsen was employed by Procter & Gamble and also served as a clerk for United States Senator Robert Dole. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1995 and worked in the San Diego City Attorney's Office. Mr. Madsen handles all areas of civil litigation. He specializes in personal injury cases involving premises liability, automobile, and all types of public entity claims, including transit and law enforcement cases. He also handles large subrogation and construction defect matters. He is also an adjunct professor of Civil Litigation with the University of San Diego

John W. Evans

John W. Evans, is a Principal of the firm, attended the University of California, Los Angeles, Class of 1978, and Southwestern University School of Law, where he obtained his J.D. in 1981. While attending law school, Mr. Evans was a member and editor of the Southwestern Law Review. Mr. Evans was admitted to the California State Bar in 1981 and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and all Federal and State courts in the State of California. Mr. Evans specializes in defense of Personal Injury matters for insurance companies, both private and public entities. Mr. Evans also handles complex Coverage cases, law and motion matters and appellate work.

Lane E. Quigley

Lane E. Quigley, is a Principal and has been practicing Personal Injury Defense since his admission to the California State Bar in 1974. Mr. Quigley received his B.A. in Business Administration from California State University, Northridge in 1971, and his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in 1974. Mr. Quigley handles complex liability matters and larger injury cases, including construction defect litigation. Mr. Quigley is also the lead firm attorney on matters involving public entity liability. Being "heavily experienced" in this specialty, he has handled such matters for L.A. City Dept. of Airports, LACMTA, numerous school districts and several municipalities. He has sat as Judge Pro-Tem for the Los Angeles Municipal Court, and as an Arbitrator for the Los Angeles Superior Court. Mr. Quigley appears as a public speaker nationwide, most recently speaking for the State Bar of California's Continuing Education Program providing the defense viewpoint in a six-hour panel discussion on approaching a Personal Injury Case. Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Quigley worked as an editor for a book publisher, and as a radio personality.

Stuart J. Liebman

Stuart J. Liebman, Senior Principal and Managing Shareholder, has been in practice since 1971, having received his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in 1970. Mr. Liebman began as Assistant General Counsel for Yellow Cab Company of California and handled many Personal Injury Defense matters throughout the State of California. Since 1972, Mr. Liebman has been in private practice specializing in defense of Personal Injury matters for insurance companies and both private and public entities. He has also handled Coverage cases, complex cases, and large Subrogation matters. Mr. Liebman personally holds an "AV" rating with Martindale-Hubbell and has tried numerous complex cases in all phases of Insurance and Personal Injury Defense.
