Barry R. Scott

Barry graduated from the University of Western Ontario Law School in 1971 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1973. He practiced as a student, junior lawyer and partner with the firm now known as Siskinds the Law Firm until 1994 when he left to open his own Firm, which has since grown into Scott Petrie LLP. At the end of 2020 Barry retired from the active practice of law, but he continues to provide consultation and support to the Firm. He will receive messages left on voice mail at his office phone number and will receive e-mails sent to his office e-mail address. Barry's past clients are encouraged to contact any other partner within their respective areas of practice (please see their individual CVs). The prime partner contacts on real estate, condominium and development matters are Jeff Bell and Kristi Sargeant-Kerr. Barry's practice has always been heavily involved with real estate and real estate development work and has had a particular focus on condominium law. He has acted extensively for condominium developers and condominium corporations. He lectured on real estate and condominium matters in the Ontario Bar Admission Course at London from 1985 until 2005. He is a professional member of the Canadian Condominium Institute ("CCI") and has served on both the London Chapter Board and the National Board of CCI. He has also been recognized as a Fellow of the Institute. Barry was extensively involved in the education activities of CCI, both locally and nationally. He has spoken and written on condominium matters for the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Middlesex Law Association, CCI and the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario. Barry's community involvement over the years included serving as a Director and Officer of the London Chamber of Commerce, as a City of London representative to the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and as a Director of the London Home Builders Association. He has also been pleased to donate time and expertise in real estate, construction and housing matters to local community and charitable organizations. Away from the office, Barry's favourite pastimes are golfing, canoeing, hiking and biking, all of which are now being supplanted by spending time with grandchildren. Barry and his wife Margie have three daughters and five grandsons.

Ben Blay

Ben practises in commercial litigation, including insolvency, secured transactions, Internet law, fraud recovery and investigation, contractual disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, real estate litigation, creditor remedies, debt recovery, estate litigation, commercial tenancy matters and defamation (particularly online defamation). Prior to his legal career, Ben worked for 10 years in the IT sector for two prominent insurance brokerages. Ben has argued before various levels of court, up to and including the Court of Appeal for Ontario. While a student at Western University, Ben was awarded the Dickson CJC medal at the Gale Cup Moot. He was co-Director of the Dispute Resolution Centre at Western University's Community Legal Services and holds certificates in mediation and negotiation.

David Swift

David's practice focuses on secured enforcement and other insolvency matters including mortgage enforcement, as well as on construction and other commercial litigation matters. David acts for Credit unions, banks, and other lenders in collecting loans from insolvent or underfunded clients and also assists creditors, debtors and receivers in restructuring situations. Suppliers and general contractors call on David to help resolve numerous construction-related problems, while business owners turn to him when facing commercial litigation challenges such as non-payment and breach of contract allegations. David has represented clients in proceedings in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal. David has prepared several papers and has been a presenter to both clients and professional associations (including the Ontario Bar Association) on construction lien and insolvency topics. When he is not serving clients, David is highly active within the community, having served as a Director of Make a Wish Southwestern Ontario and the London and District Construction Association.

Erin M. Naylor

Erin is a wills, estates and corporate lawyer. Her practice focuses on estate and succession planning and estate administration. Erin assists individuals and families with a wide range of planning, including business succession, providing for family members with disabilities, and blended families. She also works with families during the difficult times prior to and after the death of a loved one, and throughout the administration of estates and trusts. Jeff Van Bakel

Jeff obtained his law degree from Queens' University in Kingston, Ontario in 2007 and was called to the bar in June of 2008. He practiced on Bay Street in Toronto for a decade before relocating back to London in October 2017 where he joined a litigation boutique in town. Jeff joined Scott Petrie LLP as a partner in October 2020 where he continues to hone his skills in Commercial Litigation, Professional Negligence Defence, and Construction Litigation. Jeff grew up on a farm in Dublin, Ontario (North of London) where he continues to spend time with his family when he can pull himself out of the office. Jeff and his wife have four children and currently live in the Masonville area where they spend most of their free time driving their children around to their various activities. Jeff has a passion for litigation and prides himself on focusing on a results-oriented strategy for every file. When a resolution cannot be readily achieved, Jeff loves nothing more than putting on his robes and arguing for his clients' rights at all levels of court. John D. Goudy

John's litigation practice focuses on property disputes, including real estate, environmental and commercial litigation, condominium law, expropriation law, energy regulation, and regulatory offences. John has a particular interest in agricultural land matters - outside the office, he lives and works on his family's cash crop farm northwest of London, Ontario with his wife and three kids. R. Grant Inglis

Grant received his under-graduate degree in 1970 from the University of Western Ontario. He attended graduate school at the University of New Brunswick in 1971 and entered Dalhousie Law School, now known as the Schulich School of Law, in 1971, graduating in 1974. He articled with the London law firm of Robarts, Betts, McLennan and Flinn in 1975, attended the Bar Course in Toronto in 1976, and was called to the Bar in 1976. In 1976, Grant joined the firm of McLennan, Flinn and Driesman (formerly Robarts, Betts, McLennan and Flinn), which in time merged with and became known as McLennan, Wright. In 1986, he joined the firm of Shepherd, McKenzie and continued with that firm until 1991. In 1991, he became a partner of Plaxton, Little which, in turn, became Little, Parker & Inglis and later, Little, Inglis, Price & Ewer. Grant Inglis and Kim Little joined Scott Petrie LLP in November, 2019. Grant has been involved as general counsel for many organizations, including both for profit and not for profit corporations. He has acted as advisor for various Conservation Authorities and is recognized in the areas of corporate/commercial and in business law, which form a substantial basis of his practice. His experience has touched all aspects of law and as such, he is capable of giving a broad range of advice to his clients. Samantha Gordon

Samantha is an associate with Scott Petrie's litigation group. She practices in the areas of commercial litigation, construction litigation, and professional negligence defence. Samantha obtained her law degree from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University. During law school, Samantha worked as a caseworker at Lakehead's Community Legal Services representing clients on matters ranging from landlord and tenant issues to criminal matters. She volunteered with numerous groups and organizations including Level's Indigenous Youth Outreach Program ("IYOP") and Pro Bono Students Canada. She also co-founded Lakehead's Human Rights Law and Social Justice Group. Samantha continues to volunteer with IYOP today. For her final semester of law school, Samantha returned to London to complete her four-month practice placement in class actions law. Before joining Scott Petrie as an associate, Samantha articled at a full-service law firm in London during which time she gained experience in a wide variety of practice areas including commercial litigation, professional negligence defence, and plaintiff personal injury. In her free time, Samantha enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, horseback riding, playing squash, and downhill skiing.
