Alaine Barclay has been with Kahane Law Office since 2006. She completed her Bachelor of Arts at Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta and her Bachelor of Laws at the University of Saskatchewan. She was admitted to the bar in Alberta in 2007 and has remained at Kahane Law Office since that time.

Litigation lawyer Chadwick Newcombe is a fourth generation Calgarian. He holds degrees as a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Calgary, and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2001 after completing articles with a national firm wanting to specialize as a litigation lawyer.
Mr. Newcombe is a litigation lawyer with a general civil advocacy practice with particular experience in commercial and employment litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes, ranging from wrongful dismissal cases to cases involving the purchase and sale of real property to shareholder disputes to breach of contract matters. As a litigation lawyer, he has successfully represented clients in proceedings at all levels of Alberta courts, as well as in the Federal Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also assisted counsel in jurisdictions beyond Alberta in environmental and other proceedings, and been qualified by the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta as an expert witness in respect of the standard of care owed by lawyers practicing in Alberta.
Mr. Newcombe has served as an instructor/facilitator and skill evaluator for the Legal Education Society of Alberta's CPLED course (which must be completed by all individuals seeking to practice law in Alberta). He is the longest-serving coach of one of the University of Calgary Faculty of Law's competitive moot teams (a mock court proceeding) and regularly assesses law students at the University of Calgary in intra-Faculty moots. He also serves as a member of the University of Calgary Student's Union Review Board, and volunteers with Student Legal Assistance and other local organizations. Within Kahane Law, Mr. Newcombe also acts as a mentor for all their students-at-law with respect to litigation matters and how to best represent clients as a litigation lawyer.

Chris joined the team at Kahane Law Office in February 2022 practicing in our litigation department. His primary focus is litigation with a specialization in employment law and personal injury.
Chris was called to the bar in Ontario in 2017 and to the Alberta Bar in 2017. He has an LLB from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and a BA from St. Mary's University College in Alberta.
It was Chris' high school criminal law teacher that first inspired him to begin his career in law, but his areas of interest expanded to include wills and estates, family law and litigation. Nonetheless, his experience in these areas of law have helped him build a foundation in alternative dispute resolution, which he would like to continue to pursue in the future.
After receiving his NCA accreditation he completed the Law Practice Program (LPP) through Ryerson University, where he finished his work placement in April 2016 at Dorrington & Associates Professional Corporation in Timmins, Ontario.

Evan grew up in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island where he worked in his father's financial planning business before starting his own tile installation company in 2006. After the financial crash of 2008 he left the Island to get a B.A. in Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Linguistics at UBC. Upon graduating in 2014 he moved to Edmonton where he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta in 2017.
From his first summer at law school in 2015 until 2020, Evan worked, articled, and practiced at a rural northern Alberta firm. He received daily mentorship as he worked primarily in family law, wills and estates, and corporate law, which are the focus of his practice, along with entertainment law (music).
A passionate entrepreneur, Evan joined Kahane Law Office in 2020 to help expand its reach by opening the Edmonton location. An active entrepreneur himself, Evan enjoys assisting business owners overcome the issues they face - whether they be the issues associated with just starting out, or the pains that come from success and growth.
A member of the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve since 2009, Evan uniquely understands the issues facing Canadian Armed Forces members. He has taught on numerous military courses, including 9 "basic trainings". He has received various awards, including the 41 Signal Regiment Command Team Coin, 61st Field Battery Command Team Coin, and the Top Candidate Award on the Signal Operator and Army Communication and Information Systems Specialist trades courses. He was also awarded the Operation IMPACT Command Team Coin by Brigadier General St-Louis while serving a 7-month tour in Kuwait as a member of the Operational Support Hub, South West Asia in support of Operation IMPACT. In 2020 he received an award for The Most Outstanding NCO in his Regiment. He parades with 41 Signal Regiment, 1 Squadron (Edmonton), where he serves as the Training NCO in the rank of Sergeant.
Evan is the father of 5 children. When he's not with them or at the office you can find him in his basement recording studio, or playing soccer or ice hockey.

Farrah Hansen joined Kahane Law in March 2014 and is currently an associate with Kahane Law Office and is the Team Lead for the family law group overseeing the family law team.
Farrah's approach to Family Law files is to be as kind as you can for as long as you can and try to negotiate a settlement which takes into account the needs and desires of all involved. When negotiation does not appear to be working and a fair settlement is not on the table then prepare and litigate quickly and effectively. She sees an incredible amount of value in having client's work together, with lawyer assistance if needed, to settle their own issues, but feels it is very important to have litigation as an available resource as sometimes that is the only route available to obtaining what your client really needs.
Farrah has practiced exclusively in the areas of Family law since her call to the bar in 2008. She is very passionate about obtaining the best possible results for her client and their family and has a substantial amount of experience dealing with all issues associated with common law separations and divorces. She also is an advocate for cohabitation and prenuptial agreements and is regularly negotiating and completing these contracts for her clients.

Garrett joined Kahane Law Office as an Associate in September of 2015 and practices family and civil litigation.
Garrett is a proud alumnus from the first graduating class of Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law in Kamloops, British Columbia. He attained academic achievement and was placed on the Dean's List. Garrett completed a Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Lethbridge in 2005. Before law school, he pursued a career in technology sales, working for a global technology company based in Calgary.
During his legal education, Garrett assisted with the creation of the Society of Law Students, developed its website, and edited its constitution. He sat on the Society of Law Students executive as both the Clubs Coordinator and Events Coordinator. He was in charge of developing new student orientation week and annual holiday charity events. He also formed the Kamloops Community Dodgeball League and held the role of president. During his last year at law school, Garrett represented Thomson Rivers University as a member of the BC Law Moot Team. He was also a volunteer judge for the first year law moot.
Prior to starting at Kahane Law Office, Garret articles at a prestigious civil litigation firm. Garrett was also a summer student at the largest criminal law firm in Calgary, responsible for negotiations with Crown Counsel and appearing on a variety of summary matters. Working at a small general practice firm in Okotoks during his first summer, Garrett gained experience with basic corporate work as well as criminal and family files.
When not working, Garrett enjoys fine dining, team sports, skiing, and traveling.

Ivana was called to the Alberta Bar in July 2020 and is proud to be a member of the Kahane Law Family team. She is an active Member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association. Ivana graduated from the Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law in Kamloops, British Columbia in 2019 and articled at a family law firm in Downtown Calgary where she developed her passion for the practice of Family Law. She has successfully appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta and the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta.

Jacalyn Symonds was born and raised on the prairies in a small town in Manitoba. Prior to moving to Calgary for law school, Jacalyn lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for 5 years. She graduated with Distinction with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in History from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Upon obtaining her undergraduate degree Jacalyn was honoured with membership bestowed to only 10% of university students and admitted to the to the Phi Beta Kappa Honour Society which is one of the oldest and most prestigious honour societies. She also was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honour Society as well as the Golden Key Honour Society where she was an active volunteer in many community endeavours during her undergraduate years.
After moving back to Canada in 1997, Jacalyn graduated from the University of Calgary Law School where she enjoyed her 3 year law program and further continued to volunteer with organizations such as the Mustard Seed and Inn from the Cold in Calgary. During law school Jacalyn was an active member in Student Legal Assistance which is a pro-bono legal clinic that provides legal information and representation to low-income clients. Jacalyn made many Court appearances of behalf of clients during her 3 years of study before formally becoming a lawyer. Jacalyn was proudly called to the Law Society of Alberta Bar in 2002.
After articling, Jacalyn's practice developed in the areas of Residential and Commercial Real Estate, Condominium Property Law as well as Foreclosures. She thoroughly enjoys all aspects of property law and has worked closely with property management companies in the area of Condominium Property Law. Jacalyn also enjoys working in a thriving and fast paced real estate practice and is particularly involved in working closely with clients and realtors and mortgage brokers to provide a positive real estate experience.
In her spare time Jacalyn enjoys socializing, including cooking with friends and family. She takes all opportunity to travel and in her youth spent 6 months in Colombia, South America as she was chosen as a candidate for Canada World Youth Program. She has also traveled extensively through Southeast Asia, Nepal and India as well as lived and worked for a time both in Australia and New Zealand. It was from these travels that Jacalyn has experienced many cultures and she values this greatly in the practice of law in our diverse Canadian culture. Jacalyn also places a high priority on family and is quick to engage in further travel with her family. Jesse eagerly joined Kahane Law Office`s family law group in 2022. He began his lifelong commitment to learning having graduated from Mount Royal University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. From there, he attended the University of Alberta to complete law school graduating in 2021. Before joining the firm, Jesse completed his articles with a general practice firm in central Alberta. While there, he gained experience in a multitude of corporate and litigation matters.
Jesse was born and raised in a rural community outside of Calgary. During his education, Jesse also worked in the construction, manufacturing, forestry, and oilfield industries. A working background in the trades has imparted to him a hardworking nature and pragmatic viewpoint. He draws on both of these to address his client`s family disputes. Jesse maintains a broad family law practice dealing primarily with issues of parenting, child support, and spousal support.
During law school, he volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada which maintains Civil Claims Duty Counsel, a free legal service aiding low-income individuals who are self-represented with small claims matters. Being an avid outdoorsman, he further undertook an independent legal research paper focusing on the Public Trust Doctrine in hopes of strengthening protections for Canada`s National and Provincial parks.

Kathryn was called to the bar in 2004. She has been practising family law for more than 18 years. Kathryn provides clients with effective legal representation and compassionate support. Kathryn has extensive experience in resolving parenting, support and property division issues associated with marriage breakdown, common-law separation, and divorce. She is seasoned in negotiating and preparing domestic contracts, such as pre-nuptial, marriage, cohabitation, and separation agreements.
Kathryn listens to her clients and provides professional guidance to help her clients achieve what is important to them. Kathryn is a trained mediator and registered collaborative lawyer. She works closely with her clients to facilitate out-of-court resolutions quickly and cost-effectively. However, Kathryn will litigate when collaborative resolutions are unfeasible.

Ken Flowers joined us in the beginning of 2018. Prior to, Ken was a partner in the Calgary office of a western Canada based law firm until his retirement at the end of December, 2017. Mr. Flowers is a senior counsel to Kahane Law focusing on corporate commercial matters. Ken acts for a variety of clients in a wide range of industries including, banking and financing matters, equipment leasing, purchase and sale of businesses, franchising matters, shareholder agreements and commercial real estate matters.
Mr. Flowers received his LLB from the University of Western Ontario in 1988 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1990. Following graduation, Ken practiced corporate commercial law in Toronto for several years, a portion of which was spent as an Associate General Counsel for the then second largest asset based finance company in the world. Ken moved to Calgary at the end of 1996 and was called to the Alberta Bar in 1997. Until recently, Ken also practiced corporate commercial law in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut and was a member of those bars. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ken was a lender at a Schedule A bank.
Ken is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and a number of industry organizations. Over the years he has spoken at various conferences on banking, insolvency and corporate matters and served on a number of committees. When not working, Ken enjoys skiing, cycling and other sports and, most of all, spectating at sporting events involving his children.

Born and raised in Calgary, Kristy was called to the bar in July 2020 and is excited to work with her talented colleagues at Kahane.
Kristy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in writing from the University of Calgary and is a proud graduate from Cardiff University in Wales with a Bachelor of Law where she was an active member of the community. Kristy served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Canadian Student's Association, was a member of the Cardiff Rowing team, Creative Writing Club, and was selected for Firm Lead in the NHS Continuing Care Pro Bono program.
On return from the UK Kristy completed her Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee of Accreditation of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and in 2018 worked with Max Blitt, K.C. to co-author a paper entitled "Reducing the Trauma of Child Abduction Proceedings for Children".

Robert Erickson began his academic studies earning a BA in economics with distinction from the University of Calgary. While studying at U of C, Mr. Erickson took advantage of the exchange program and studied for one year at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. He completed the SILS (School of International Liberal Studies) program, at Waseda University, which primarily included the study of the Japanese language. During his studies at U of C, Mr. Erickson received awards for his academic achievements including multiple bursaries and the Jason Lang Academic Scholarship.
Following his graduation from U of C, Mr. Erickson moved to England where he accepted a partial scholarship at Newcastle University to participate in the Law Program (LLB Honours). He graduated in 2015. He then spent some time traveling Europe and returned to Canada to complete his NCA requirements so he could practice law in Canada.
Upon his return to Canada, Mr. Erickson enrolled in the LPP (Law Practice Program) at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. He articled at Andriessen and Associates Business Lawyers in Toronto and was called to the Bar in Ontario, June 2017. To further add to his credentials Robert completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) in early 2018.

Russel grew up in the Fraser Valley, British Columbia, and moved to Edmonton in 2010 to for law school. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 2013 and was called to the bar in 2014.
He is based out of the Edmonton office of Kahane Family Law. He practices exclusively in the area of Family Law and concentrates primarily in helping his clients reach out of court solutions to issues such as parenting, child and spousal support, parenting and property. He is an experienced mediator and a registered collaborative family law lawyer.
However, Russel understands that sometimes a dispute can be resolved only through court. In the courtroom he is an effective advocate with substantial litigation experience.
He spent the first 4 years of his practice exclusively in Criminal Law, where he represented clients at all levels of court in Alberta, as well as in the BC Supreme Court, Provincial Court of British Columbia and the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan.
He has learned through his litigation experience that the best way for clients to resolve a legal dispute usually is outside the courtroom. He views litigation as a last resort to reach a resolution.
As a result of his experience in both Criminal and Family Law, Russel receives numerous referrals from both the Crown prosecutor's office and the criminal defence bar. Shuna Williams is a litigation lawyer specializing in the areas of civil litigation, personal injury, and employment law. She joined the litigation group at Kahane Law Office in 2023.
Prior to joining the firm, she completed her articles and practiced with a small litigation boutique.
Shuna takes a client first approach to her practice ensuring her clients feel heard and have a clear understanding of their rights and their options.
She completed her Juris Doctor at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law. During law school, Shuna volunteered for Student Legal Assistant as a caseworker, won the Alberta Court of Appeal Moot, as well as the Western Family Law Negotiation Competition.
Shuna's practice focuses on helping small business owners and individuals navigate the civil litigation process. She understands how challenging legal disputes can be and prides herself on advocating for her clients' rights both in and outside the Courtroom.
