Litigation lawyer Chadwick Newcombe is a fourth generation Calgarian. He holds degrees as a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Calgary, and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2001 after completing articles with a national firm wanting to specialize as a litigation lawyer. Mr. Newcombe is a litigation lawyer with a general civil advocacy practice with particular experience in commercial and employment litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes, ranging from wrongful dismissal cases to cases involving the purchase and sale of real property to shareholder disputes to breach of contract matters. As a litigation lawyer, he has successfully represented clients in proceedings at all levels of Alberta courts, as well as in the Federal Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also assisted counsel in jurisdictions beyond Alberta in environmental and other proceedings, and been qualified by the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta as an expert witness in respect of the standard of care owed by lawyers practicing in Alberta. Mr. Newcombe has served as an instructor/facilitator and skill evaluator for the Legal Education Society of Alberta's CPLED course (which must be completed by all individuals seeking to practice law in Alberta). He is the longest-serving coach of one of the University of Calgary Faculty of Law's competitive moot teams (a mock court proceeding) and regularly assesses law students at the University of Calgary in intra-Faculty moots. He also serves as a member of the University of Calgary Student's Union Review Board, and volunteers with Student Legal Assistance and other local organizations. Chris joined the team at Kahane Law Office in February 2022 practicing in our litigation department. His primary focus is litigation with a specialization in employment law and personal injury. Chris was called to the bar in Ontario in 2017 and to the Alberta Bar in 2017. He has an LLB from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and a BA from St. Mary's University College in Alberta. It was Chris' high school criminal law teacher that first inspired him to begin his career in law, but his areas of interest expanded to include wills and estates, family law and litigation. Nonetheless, his experience in these areas of law have helped him build a foundation in alternative dispute resolution, which he would like to continue to pursue in the future. After receiving his NCA accreditation he completed the Law Practice Program (LPP) through Ryerson University, where he finished his work placement in April 2016 at Dorrington & Associates Professional Corporation in Timmins, Ontario. Evan grew up in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island where he worked in his father's financial planning business before starting his own tile installation company in 2006. After the financial crash of 2008 he left the Island to get a B.A. in Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Linguistics at UBC. Upon graduating in 2014 he moved to Edmonton where he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta in 2017. From his first summer at law school in 2015 until 2020, Evan worked, articled, and practiced at a rural northern Alberta firm. Farrah Hansen joined Kahane Law in March 2014 and is currently an associate with Kahane Law Office and is the Team Lead for the family law group overseeing the family law team. Farrah's approach to Family Law files is to be as kind as you can for as long as you can and try to negotiate a settlement which takes into account the needs and desires of all involved. When negotiation does not appear to be working and a fair settlement is not on the table then prepare and litigate quickly and effectively. She sees an incredible amount of value in having client's work together, with lawyer assistance if needed, to settle their own issues, but feels it is very important to have litigation as an available resource as sometimes that is the only route available to obtaining what your client really needs. Farrah has practiced exclusively in the areas of Family law since her call to the bar in 2008. Garrett joined Kahane Law Office as an Associate in September of 2015 and practices family and civil litigation. Garrett is a proud alumnus from the first graduating class of Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law in Kamloops, British Columbia. He attained academic achievement and was placed on the Dean's List. Garrett completed a Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Lethbridge in 2005. Before law school, he pursued a career in technology sales, working for a global technology company based in Calgary. During his legal education, Garrett assisted with the creation of the Society of Law Students, developed its website, and edited its constitution. He sat on the Society of Law Students executive as both the Clubs Coordinator and Events Coordinator. He was in charge of developing new student orientation week and annual holiday charity events. He also formed the Kamloops Community Dodgeball League and held the role of president. Jacalyn Symonds was born and raised on the prairies in a small town in Manitoba. Prior to moving to Calgary for law school, Jacalyn lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for 5 years. She graduated with Distinction with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in History from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Upon obtaining her undergraduate degree Jacalyn was honoured with membership bestowed to only 10% of university students and admitted to the to the Phi Beta Kappa Honour Society which is one of the oldest and most prestigious honour societies. She also was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honour Society as well as the Golden Key Honour Society where she was an active volunteer in many community endeavours during her undergraduate years. While there, he gained experience in a multitude of corporate and litigation matters. Jesse was born and raised in a rural community outside of Calgary. During his education, Jesse also worked in the construction, manufacturing, forestry, and oilfield industries. Ken Flowers joined us in the beginning of 2018. Prior to, Ken was a partner in the Calgary office of a western Canada based law firm until his retirement at the end of December, 2017. Mr. Flowers is a senior counsel to Kahane Law focusing on corporate commercial matters. Ken acts for a variety of clients in a wide range of industries including, banking and financing matters, equipment leasing, purchase and sale of businesses, franchising matters, shareholder agreements and commercial real estate matters. Mr. Flowers received his LLB from the University of Western Ontario in 1988 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1990. Following graduation, Ken practiced corporate commercial law in Toronto for several years, a portion of which was spent as an Associate General Counsel for the then second largest asset based finance company in the world. Ken moved to Calgary at the end of 1996 and was called to the Alberta Bar in 1997.
