Dr. Allan A. Hunter

Allan A. Hunter, M.D., a board certified ophthalmologist, received his undergraduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University and stayed in Baltimore for medical school and residency. Afterwards, he completed his medical retinal fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. During this time, he was awarded the prestigious "K Award" studying age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Hunter then moved to California to complete the acclaimed vitreo-retinal surgical fellowship at the University of California, Davis. A retinal expert, Dr. Hunter is an award-winning presenter and a highly published author in multiple ophthalmic journals. He has also served as principal investigator on numerous clinical research projects. Dr. Hunter enjoys running, hiking, biking and skiing with his wife and four children in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Dr. Ernest Puckett

Dr Puckett grew up in Texas and completed his undergraduate training in biomedical engineering at the University of Texas in Austin. He then went on to attend medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston where he was inducted into the alpha omega alpha honor society and graduated at the top of his class. After discovering his passion for ophthalmology he moved west to begin his residency training in ophthalmology at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute. During his time here he was the residency representative for the program education committee and received the senior resident teaching award. After graduating he stayed on for another year to complete his glaucoma fellowship also at UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute. Dr Puckett specializes in cataract surgery and treatment of glaucoma. He offers advanced cataract lens options including astigmatism correcting and presbyopia correcting lenses. He is well versed in traditional glaucoma surgeries including trabeculectomy and tube shunts along with new and innovative minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. Dr Puckett and his wife have come to love the nature in the Pacific Northwest. In his free time he likes to bike and go camping with his family. Ernest Puckett, MD, a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist joined us this last August. He joined our anterior segment team seeing patients for comprehensive opthalmology, as well as cataracts and glaucoma in the Eugene, Springfield and Florence clinics.

Dr. Keyhan F. Aryah

Dr. Aryah continued to grow the practice and opened satellite offices in Florence, Newport and Springfield. In 1999, Robert J. Champer, M.D., Ph.D., joined Oregon Eye Consultants, a vitreo-retinal ophthalmologist providing sub-specialty care to the community. His practice grew to two locations in Roseburg, and the existing Newport and Florence facilities. John W. Karth, M.D., a second vitreo-retinal physician joined in 2007. Since that time, Oregon Eye Consultants retina physicians have expanded their practice to North Bend. 2015 brought more growth. Oregon Eye Consultants opened their Riverbend District office in Springfield, allowing patients the convenience of a location right off of the I-5. W. Benjamin Kunz, M.D., a cornea specialist and comprehensive ophthalmologist also offering refractive surgery joined the practice that July. Robert M. Beardsley, M.D. joined Oregon Eye Consultants in August of 2015, a vitreo-retinal ophthalmologist and specialist in uveitis and ocular Inflammatory diseases. The next year brought the retirement of Robert J. Champer, M.D., Ph.D., in December.

Dr. Robert M. Beardsley

Dr. Beardsley grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina. He attended Duke University for his undergraduate degree in marine biology and is a die-hard Blue Devil fan. After spending time as a scuba instructor in Belize and a forest ranger in Colorado, he decided to pursue a career in ophthalmology. For his medical degree, he attended Baylor College of Medicine graduating with honors. He completed his residency at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. Dr. Beardsley continued his training with a fellowship in uveitis at Oregon Health and Science University followed by a fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at the University of Minnesota. He has dozens of peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts and book chapters on topics such as inflammatory eye disease, retinal detachment repair and retinal vascular disease. He has been an investigator in multiple clinical trials investigating novel therapies for uveitis. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota and enjoys mentoring residents and medical students. Dr. Beardsley specializes in medical and surgical diseases of the vitreous, retina and choroid including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachments and tears. Additionally, he has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of ocular inflammatory disease such as uveitis and infectious retinitis. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Surgeons and the American Uveitis Society. He enjoys spending his time with family in the outdoors hiking, biking and skiing. Robert M. Beardsley, M.D. joined Oregon Eye Consultants in August of 2015, a vitreo-retinal ophthalmologist and specialist in uveitis and ocular Inflammatory diseases. The next year brought the retirement of Robert J. Champer, M.D., Ph.D., in December. We again expanded our practice in April of 2018. We opened the Edenbower Clinic, our 3rd Roseburg location, which is exclusively ours. Immediately following in May, we welcomed Allan A. Hunter, M.D., a vitreo-retinal specialist. He is thrilled to provide excellent patient care and surgical expertise here at Oregon Eye Consultants.

Dr. W. Benjamin Kunz

Dr. Kunz attended medical school at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, finishing in 2010. During this time, he conducted research and authored peer-reviewed journal articles with some of the leaders in ocular research. He went on to complete an ophthalmology residency at Ross Eye Institute, SUNY University at Buffalo where he was chief resident and received the Most Outstanding Resident award. He also presented research about ocular surface disease, corneal infections and refractive surgery at national meetings. He completed a fellowship in Corneal and External Disease at the Dean McGee Eye Institute at the University of Oklahoma. During this year, he performed hundreds of surgeries for a wide range of ocular diseases, including the latest iteration of corneal endothelial transplantation, DMEK. He also conducted research on endothelial transplant success based on graft thickness and wound size.
