Dr. Knell received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University, prior to attending Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas for his Doctor of Dental Surgery. He then attended Texas Tech University School of Medicine to obtain his Doctor of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Knell returned to Dallas where he completed an internship in Preliminary Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center before concluding his residency training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Knell has lectured nationally and regionally on topics concerning craniofacial implants, oral pathology, and maxillofacial trauma. While he practices the complete scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Knell's emphasis is on bone grafting, dental implantology, oral pathology, and orthognathic surgery. Dr. Knell was born in Springs, South Africa and raised in Plano, Texas. In his spare time, Dr. Knell enjoys traveling, running, and cycling with the hope of one day completing an Ironman.

Dr. Daniel Szalay

Languages English Education DDS, MD Dr. Daniel Szalay is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Szalay was raised in Austin and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He then moved to Dallas to complete a Master of Science degree in genetics. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery, graduating with honors at the top of his class, from the Baylor College of Dentistry. Following dental school, Dr. Szalay completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. There he received training in adult and pediatric anesthesia, as well as completing rotations in general surgery and internal medicine. Dr. Szalay has presented at several local and regional meetings on his own clinical research as well as topics including corrective jaw surgery, cleft lip and palate, dental implants, and virtual surgical planning. Although he practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, his clinical interests include corrective jaw surgery, dental implants, bone grafting, temporomandibular joint reconstruction, and oral pathology. Dr. Szalay was born in Budapest, Hungary, and moved to Austin with his family at the age of 7. He is very excited to be returning to central Texas with his wife and children. In his spare time Dr. Szalay enjoys hiking with his family, playing golf, and cheering on the Longhorns.

Dr. David Szalay

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, graduating with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. He continued his professional education at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas where he graduated at the top of his class and received the dental implant award from the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. After finishing dental school, Dr. Szalay earned his medical degree from the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he graduated at the top of his class and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He remained in San Antonio to complete his general surgery internship, his training in adult and pediatric anesthesia, and his professional training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Szalay has presented at multiple national and regional meetings, performed research and written articles and book chapters on a wide range of oral and maxillofacial surgery topics including orthognathic surgery, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery, implantology, and pathology. He has participated in mission trips and enjoys providing care to cleft lip and palate patients. Although Dr. Szalay practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, he has special interests in dental implants, bone grafting, TMJ reconstruction, and orthognathic surgery. He feels most at home in Central Texas and takes pride in providing the community thorough and compassionate care. Dr. Szalay enjoys the outdoors, playing golf, fishing, running, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Fred J. Voorhees

He left behind his New Mexico roots to begin his educational training at Trinity University in San Antonio, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. Following his undergraduate studies. Dr. Voorhees earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Baylor College of Dentistry, where he graduated in 1977. Dr. Voorhees conducted his residency in oral surgery at Baylor Medical Center from 1978-1982 and received his Master of Science in Dentistry in 1982. He joined our Austin Oral Surgery team in July, 1982. He is certified by The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and his memberships include those in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the Capital Area Dental Society, the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. James C. Fuselier

Dr. Fuselier attended Lamar University before graduating Salutatorian from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern. At Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Dr. Fuselier completed an internship in General Surgery and a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Fuselier has been actively involved in research and has published several articles directly related to his specialty. He practices the full scope of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with a clinical emphasis on dental implants and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Fuselier is licensed physician and dentist in the state of Texas. He previously practiced in Springfield, Missouri prior to joining our group in 2001. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Texas Dental Association, Travis County Medical Society, Capital Area Dental Society, American Medical Association, American Dental Association and the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Michael P. Ding

Languages English Education DDS, MD Dr. Michael P. Ding joined the Austin Oral Surgery team of doctors in July 2010. Dr. Ding received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University prior to attending Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas for his Doctor of Dental Surgery. He then attended Texas Tech University School of Medicine to obtain his Doctor of Medicine where he had the honor of graduating Valedictorian of his class. After medical school, Dr. Ding returned to Dallas where he completed an internship in General Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center before concluding his residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Ding is also a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has lectured nationally on topics related to craniofacial reconstruction and management of head and neck pathology. He has also a served on medical and dental mission trips, caring for patients needing cleft lip and palate repair, post traumatic injuries and other needs. Dr. Ding practices a complete scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with particular interest in corrective jaw surgery and dental rehabilitation utilizing dental implants.

Dr. Thomas S. Weil

After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Dr. Weil began his professional education at Baylor College of Dentistry where he graduated at the top of his class. He then attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he earned his medical degree, also graduating with Honors. He remained in San Antonio to complete a General Surgery internship, his anesthesia training and the remainder of his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He served as a board examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for eight years. Dr. Weil is a licensed physician and dentist in Texas. He joined our group in 1997. He is a member of the Southwest and Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the American Dental Association and the Capital Area Dental Society.

Dr. William C. Cain

He received his Bachelor of Science degree and Masters of Science Degree in Microbiology and Immunology from Texas Tech University, his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry and his Doctor of Medicine from Texas Tech University School of Medicine. After completing a General Surgery Internship at Baylor University Medical Center and an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Baylor College of Dentistry, he joined Austin Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in July 2007. Dr. Cain has many professional affiliations; among them are the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Travis County Medical Society, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, and Capitol Area Dental Society. Dr. Cain has participated in research on various aspects of his specialty and has been published in national and international publications. He also lectures locally and nationally on topics pertaining to his area of expertise. He continues to attend national meetings, seminars and lectures to keep abreast of the most current dental health information. Robert B. Hunsaker

Dr. Hunsaker was born in Utah and raised on a farm in Southern Idaho. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003 from Utah State University. During his time in college, he served on a two year church mission in South America where he learned to speak Spanish fluently. After returning he decided to pursue a career in healthcare and upon marrying his wife Lyndsay, they moved to Richmond, Virginia where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008. He enjoyed the management of complex treatment plans and decided to continue his training in oral surgery. Dr. Hunsaker was accepted into an integrated program at the University of Kentucky where he received his Doctor of Medicine while completing an internship in General Surgery and simultaneously completing his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2014. Dr. Hunsaker's professional memberships include local, state and national societies in medicine, dentistry and oral surgery, including: the American Medical Association, American Dental Association, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American College of Oral Surgeons. He has participated in research on a range of topics in his specialty and has been published in national professional publications. He frequently serves on medical and dental mission trips, both locally and internationally. Dr. Hunsaker enjoys lecturing on topics that pertain to his area of expertise and continues to attend national meetings, seminars and lectures that keep him up to date with current surgical techniques. Dr. Hunsaker is a licensed physician and dentist in the state of Texas. He previously practiced in Charleston, West Virginia where he gained experience with a wide array of oral surgery procedures. He enjoys practicing all aspects of oral surgery but has particular interests in anesthesia, dental implants and bone grafting.

Russell D. Cunningham

Dr. Cunningham completed his undergraduate studies at Texas Tech University, received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry and his Doctor of Medicine from Texas Tech University School of Medicine before returning to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas for an internship in General Surgery. Dr. Cunningham then completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Texas A&M College of Dentistry (formerly Baylor College of Dentistry) where he learned state-of-the-art technology and procedures of his specialty. Dr. Cunningham has spoken at multiple regional meetings in various topics related to his field and is excited to share his most current knowledge and enthusiasm for our specialty with his patients and colleagues of Central Texas. Dr. Russell Cunningham joined his father, Dr. Barry Cunningham, who is a founding partner of Austin Oral Surgery.

Travis W. Kern

A native of Austin, Dr. Kern began his educational training at Texas A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery, graduating with Honors, followed by his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental and Medical schools respectively. After graduating from medical school he completed a one-year General Surgery internship at University Hospital in San Antonio. Dr. Kern completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in June, 2010. Following his residency, Dr. Kern completed a one year fellowship with an emphasis in Orthognathic (Corrective Jaw) and Reconstructive Surgery in Charlotte, North Carolina. Austin Oral Surgery was pleased to have him join our team in July 2011. Dr. Kern has presented at multiple local and regional meetings on topics including maxillofacial trauma, dental implants, and orthognathic surgery. While he enjoys the complete scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, his clinical interests particularly include orthognathic surgery, bone grafting, and dental implantology. Born and raised in Austin and a graduate of McCallum High School, Dr. Kern is excited to provide compassionate care and further develop relationships with patients and colleagues in the Austin area. Dr. Kern practices at our North Central Austin office with Dr. Fred Voorhees and Dr. Thomas Weil and at our Marble Falls location with Dr. Russell Cunningham.

Tyler C. Wildey

After medical school, Dr. Wildey returned to Dallas where he completed an internship in General Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center before concluding his residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry. Dr. Wildey has written a textbook chapter on Maxillofacial reconstruction. His other interests include bone grafting, dental implantology, and oral pathology. Dr. Wildey was born in Oklahoma City and raised in Keller, Texas. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and working out.
