Boyd Cohen

Boyd is the co-founder of CO2IMPACT, a carbon consultancy based in Vancouver, Canada, with most of its projects being private sector clients in Latin America. Boyd is bi-lingual (English and Spanish) having taught MBA courses in sustainability at the Instituto de Empresa (Madrid, Spain) and INCAE (Costa Rica). Boyd has also been a full-time, and/or adjunct faculty member at UVIC, SFU and UBC in Canada. During his stint with SFU, he served as the only business faculty member on the Committee for the Centre for Sustainable Community Development with Mark Roseland. Furthermore, Boyd s is a co-author of a forthcoming book with Hunter Lovins, entitled, Climate Capitalism: Capitalism in the Age of Climate Change. Aside from Climate Capitalism Boyd has published numerous academic articles at the intersection of innovation and sustainability in journals such as the Journal of Business Venturing and Business Strategy and the Environment.

David Waldron

David Waldron is Principal and Co-Founder of Synapse Strategies, a management consultancy that specializes in developing sustainability strategies for highly complex and challenging situations. Since beginning his career as a professional civil engineer, David was a central figure in establishing an international award-winning sustainability movement in Whistler, Canada's leading tourism community, including the introduction of community energy planning, representing Whistler on the Environmental Advisory Committee for Vancouver and Whistler's bid for the 2010 Olympics. Dave was ‘lead architect' of an original international Master's program "Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability" at BTH, Sweden where BTH become the top-ranked Swedish University for sustainability education. He also helped launch IMAGINE, a European network of local authorities re-imagining their energy futures. David has also been Director of Sustainability for the David Suzuki Foundation (Canada's leading environmental organization) and strategic sustainability advisor to a large Canadian mining company. Dave teaches Sustainability Leadership through the University of British Columbia (UBC) and is an Adjunct Professor with Simon Fraser University (SFU), both in the Vancouver area. He has a Bachelor's of Applied Science (Civil Engineering), from UBC and a Master's of Resource and Environmental Management, from SFU.

Paul Vallee

Paul Vallee is Executive Vice President of Tourism Vancouver. He has been with the bureau since 1989. He is responsible for the delivery of the bureau's long-term strategic plan, performance monitoring and oversees the departments that deliver sales and marketing. Paul has served on many destination marketing and tourism boards, including the Destination Marketing Association International, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada and the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program. He was Chair of the Board of Directors of the British Columbia Sustainable Tourism Partnership. He also was Chair of the BestCities Global Alliance and was Chair of the Tourism Destination Marketing Work Group for the 2010 Olympic Bid.Paul is a member of faculty at Capilano University where he teaches international destination marketing. He has a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Waterloo in Ontario that saw him specialize in travel attitudes and motivations. Paul Vallee, Executive Vice President of Tourism Vancouver, and former Chair of ETHOS (BC Partnership for Sustainable Tourism), will provide an overview of strategic efforts to develop sustainable practices for tourism industry in Vancouver. Since the 1990's, Tourism Vancouver has worked with government and industry to enhance sustainability and energy conservation programs, through such partnerships as Oceans Blue Foundation, BC Hydro and ETHOS. The session will cover background on these various initiatives, including certification programs, with a focus on outcomes, challenges and future direction. The presentation will look at how these steps are helping to contribute to the City of Vancouver's plan to be the greenest city in the world by 2020.
