FARM DIRECT

Founded in 2004, Farm Direct is a collaborative effort to link Los Angeles families with local food sources. The company was developed through the efforts of charter and public schools in the LA Unified School District. Community farmers 200 miles to the north of LA (Ventura county) reached out to LA city leaders to deliver fresh produce to school wellness programs. After many trials of improving food access to the inner-city, a solution was formed in Farm Direct, to establish a company to deliver directly from the farms to the inner-city of Los Angeles. Farm Direct has since assisted various community programs, including Farm-To-School, childhood obesity prevention, harvest-of-the-month, nutrition fairs, and event catering...
