SOS - Key Persons
" I am writing to give my heartiest approval of SOS, Serving Our Seniors program directed by Margaret Lawrence. It is aptly named "SOS" since it was a life-saver to me after my mother broke her hip three years ago. living out of town from my elderly mother has become challenging as she has become less independent. My brother is 7 hours away, so neither of us are close by. Mama has always wanted to remain in her hometown where she has her lifelong church friends, prayer group,garden club, stitchery group etc. and never wanted to be a burden to her children. The SOS staff can be involved and talkative, or they can give the person "space" and quiet time if needed. They have helped fix breakfast, lunch, taken blood pressure, wash clothes, straighten the apartment,vacuumed, done light dusting, etc. They get up with her in the night to make sure she doesn't fall. Some have taken such an interest in her, have helped roll and fix her hair, and wheel her down for dinner. It is reassuring to know that someone will always be there. Someone always shows up at the designated time, and many have dropped other duties to come in emergencies. At the last ER visit, these ladies were able to be with her at the hospital since I could not. We are so grateful for SOS and the quality of care with personal touches they have giver my mother.
