Job Titles:
  • - Owner - Level III SpellRead Instructor
I come from a large extended family of teachers and Acadia alumni (myself included), and have been finding myself in a variety of teaching environments for the past 17 years. I graduated from Acadia University in 1993, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a double minor in Theatre and Sociology. I started teaching that same year at the Bridgetown Regional High School as a resource teacher assistant, working one-on-one or with a small group of students with learning disabilities. It was then that I decided I wanted to continue teaching in the field of reading remediation. I also knew I wanted more worldly experience and in 1996 I set out for South Korea. I taught English as a Second Language for one year to Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle School, High School students and including a housewives class. Upon returning from Korea, I received my TEFL certification from the Atlantic Overseas Teaching Institute in Halifax. The travel bug stayed with me and from 1998-2002, I worked for Carnival Cruise Lines with the shipboard children's activity program both as a Youth Counselor and Assistant Youth Director. In between contracts I would find myself back home at the Bridgetown Regional Elementary School and High School as guest lecturer, talking to children and teens about my work and travels using video footage, pictures, props and world currencies. For the past 6 years I have been teaching as a Certified SpellRead Instructor at both the Halifax office and now in my own clinic in downtown Kentville - Valley Read. I am a level III instructor and trained assessor. Over the past 6 years I have grown to realize how solid and important the SpellRead program is and I am very excited to continue growing it here in the Annapolis Valley. Please contact me anytime either by phone or email with your questions. I look forward to hearing from you.
