Adrian Grocock

Adrian Grocock joined us in 1995 as Senior Management Surveyor, and has since been appointed Managing Director of our B+K Building Services Division. Adrian is responsible for the financial and surveying functions ensuring that the surveying team integrates and works with the Client and their team to make certain that the project is delivered within budget and providing best value. He enjoys travel and all sports.

Alan Johansen

Alan joined B+K in 1994. His hard work ethic and proactive approach has been a major factor in the success of our North East and Scotland region. He was appointed as Regional Director in 2002 and he encourages achievement, inspires enthusiasm and ensures that commitment to client satisfaction is instilled in his team. A Member of the Association of Project Managers, Alan is an avid Newcastle United fan and enjoys walking and martial arts.

Chris Arno

Design and Build contracting is a passion for Chris and he has been involved with it for 20 years, for the last 8 years in a design management role. He is also a key member of our team working on the Education Funding Agency frameworks. His ability to identify and understand key stakeholder requirements and manage a multi-disciplinary design team to achieve a common goal of quality at minimum cost are some of his many strengths. Chris joined us in 1999 and has worked on some of our most notable projects many of them in the education sector.

Matthew Cruttenden

Matthew joined us as a graduate Trainee Quantity Surveyor in 1990. During his time at B+K he has specialised in commercial office schemes working closely with developers, architects and agents providing timely design and construction advice. He was promoted to Regional Director for the South in 2014 and his commercial background and desire to remain actively involved with project teams, enables him to ensure that projects are consistently delivered to the highest standards on time and budget. He was appointed to the main board on September 1, 2020 and will lend his expertise to the Group while continuing to lead the Southern Region. Matthew enjoys the countryside, travel with his family and follows rugby.

Michael Kirkland

Following successful completion of his MSc in Property Appraisal and Management, Michael joined CB Richard Ellis, one of the world's leading commercial real estate advisers. He spent five years at CBRE working in development consultancy and real estate finance and is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. In 2012 Michael completed his MBA from Pepperdine University in California, and joined the Main Board.

Michelle Mucklestone - CFO

Michelle joined the group in 1989 as a Trainee Management Accountant. She studied for her accountancy qualifications with the support of the group and qualified as an Associate Chartered Management Accountant in 1992. She was Management Accountant, Group Accountant and Group Financial Controller before her appointment to the Group Finance Director in 2012. Away from work she regularly competes in triathlons. Between events, she fits in regular training, fitness work at the gym and has a love of gardening.

Phillip Ellis

Phillip joined Bowmer + Kirkland in 1984 as a Trainee QS and progressed through the company in various roles before becoming responsible for many of our Retail schemes and key clients within that sector. During the last few years he has moved into a group role heading the Business Development Department. In this role he is able to use his extensive relationships built up over many years with a number of our clients - existing, new and prospective, to generate opportunities in all sectors for the business as a whole. He also provides a link between us and external national organisations such as Business In The Community, The Careers Academy, The Chamber of Commerce. Outside of work he enjoys getting out into the hills on his mountain bike, walking and following the renaissance of Derby County Football Club.

Robert M Kirkland

Following graduation from UMIST, Robert worked for a main contractor in London for eight years as a Site Engineer, progressing to a Contracts Manager. He joined Bowmer + Kirkland in 1975, becoming a Director in 1976. On 1 January 2019, Robert stepped down from his duties as a Main Board Director and is now Life President of B+K. Aside from his role at Bowmer + Kirkland, Robert has been a Local Director with Coutts, Chairman of the Prince's Trust, Derbyshire and a Governor of Repton School. He is a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire.

Sarah Millington

Sarah joined Bowmer + Kirkland in February 2004 following a career in journalism. She is responsible for all PR for the group including internal and external communications, organising events, community liaison, sponsorships and awards. Sarah is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and in her spare time enjoys travel, reading and sport.

Steve Chambers

When Steve started at Bowmer + Kirkland in 1980 as a Site Engineer, the company was planning to expand into North America. He played a major part in our success in the USA where he was the Contracts Manager leading our project team on the construction of a brewery in Milwaukee - our first construction project in the States. Steve is now responsible for our North Midlands and Yorkshire region and his non-confrontational approach means that many of his clients are returning customers. Steve is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building and is a keen golfer.
