BOVEY CLIMATE ACTION

1. We act locally, within Bovey Tracey and Heathfield and the surrounding area, to reduce carbon emissions. For example, we have a very successful community garden, which helps people grow local food, rather than needing to buy food which has been transported here from far away, often incurring high food miles... We also very proud of our woodfuel group, who meet regularly throughout the winter to fell and process wood from Dartmoor National Park's woodlands. The members take the wood home to use in wood-burning stoves, which reduce their need to use fossil fuels for heating... 3. We lobby nationally (including our MP), and locally to increase the work that public authorities do to make a difference. We can't solve all the problems locally - for example, to reduce the carbon emissions from cars and lorries, which create about a third of Devon's emissions, we need to change the transport infrastructure.
