EDWARD LOWE FOUNDATION

Ed and Darlene Lowe established the Edward Lowe Foundation in 1985 to leverage entrepreneurship as a strategy for economic growth and community development. In contrast to most U.S. foundations, which are grant-giving entities, we are an operating foundation and use our endowment to fund our own programs... To scale our impact, the foundation delivers programs to second-stagers through other entrepreneur support organizations, such as small business development centers and economic development agencies. Although some programs are conducted virtually, the majority of leader retreats are held at Big Rock Valley (BRV), our headquarters in southwest Michigan... In contrast to nonprofits that are grant-making institutions, we use our endowment to develop and run our own programs. Some of the foundation's services are delivered virtually, but the majority of our work is carried out at Big Rock Valley (BRV), our headquarters property in southwest Michigan.
