ROSEWOOD QUARTET - Key Persons


Deborah Groenleer

Deborah Groenleer got her start playing in string ensembles with her family at a very early age and has enjoyed it ever since. She has played professionally in the Lansing Symphony, Jackson Symphony, and currently plays in the West Michigan Symphony Orchestra.

Eric Phelps

Eric Phelps received his Bachelors of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Masters of Music at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and Professional Studies Diploma from the Mannes College of Music. His primary teachers were Richard Rognstad, Peter Rejto, Judith Glyde, and Timothy Eddy. Eric has participated in music festivals in North America and Europe, including master classes with Lynn Harrell, Janos Starker, and Yo-Yo Ma. Eric served as Associate Principal cellist for the West Michigan Symphony in Muskegon, and substitutes in the Grand Rapids Symphony. He plays a 1995 Stanley Kiernoziak cello made in the shop of William Harris Lee in Chicago.

Lori Schiffer

Lori Schiffer began playing the violin in her hometown of Detroit, Michigan. She studied with her beloved great-uncle, a member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Jack Boesen. Continuing her studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in performance. Teachers included David Cerone and Bernhard Goldschmidt. Upon graduation Lori played professionally with the Florida Symphony Orchestra based in Orlando, Florida for ten years. Since relocating to West Michigan in 1991, she has performed with both the West Michigan Symphony Orchestra and Traverse Symphony Orchestra and also performs regularly with the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and Circle Theatre. Lori enjoys spending time with her three children, family, gardening, going to movies and the Michigan summer sunshine.
