She completed 4 years of acting studies at the Amsterdam University of the Arts... Although she is well known for many television and film roles, she started out performing on stage. Her theatre work took her from the Almeida theatre in London to the Salzburger Festspiele. Among her first film roles was Belgian film Everybody Famous, nominated for an Oscar. Her captivating role of Lotte, another Oscar nominated film called Twin Sisters, was her big break. She was Shooting Star at the Berlinale the same year... In 2022 Thekla won the award for Best Actress at Porto Film Festival for Repression, in 2023 she won the same award for her role in Narcosis.
