Bart Kowal

Job Titles:
  • Production Team City & Guilds Construction Joinery Level 1
As a workshop operative joining Makar in 2018, Bart gets to put his enjoyment of woodwork, especially wood turning into effect each day. Outside of work Bart's is completing small jobs around the house or travelling around the Highlands with family.

Billy Campbell

Job Titles:
  • Staff Member
Billy started at MAKAR, March 2014 and works as a wood machinist. Whilst away from work he enjoys fly-fishing.

David Price

Job Titles:
  • Production Supervisor
David joined MAKAR in 2007, and gained his SVQ level 3 in Carpentry and joinery in 2011. He has enjoyed watching the company grow in recent years. In his spare time David is a big fan of rock and metal music, films and rugby.

Eadan Sutherland

Job Titles:
  • Operations Assistant
Since joining Makar in early 2020, Eaden has enthusiastically been carrying out various operations support duties both on site and at our workshop. Eaden is hoping to enroll into a practical apprenticeship course. Away from work, Eaden enjoys listening & making music on his guitar and attending gigs.

Maitri Tisch

Job Titles:
  • Architect
Maitri is a fully trained architect with 15 years post Part 3 Architects Registration Board experience. She has worked with Neil and the MAKAR team, and on a freelance basis for the last 20 years. She is a member of the RIAS and SEDA. After studying and working in Austria in the 1990's, Maitri specialised in Ecological Design. She is passionate about the need to face the big challenges of our time with awareness, confidence, intelligence and compassion. She has long advocated that ecological building is not simply a careful choice of materials and a design which results in low energy consumption; it is the integration of architecture with place in a way which enlivens appreciation for life. She is a practising Buddhist, and loves the integrated, team-based approach which MAKAR has developed to create quality places. In the last few years, she has helped prepare Masterplans for:

Neil Edgar

Job Titles:
  • Operations Manager
Neil joined Makar in March 2019 after moving away from a company that he founded in London 20 years earlier that specialise in the installation of bespoke interiors. His focus is to continually improve the efficiency and quality of the products and services that we deliver at MAKAR. Outside of work Neil is a skilled tightrope walker and also has a keen interest in Formula 1, cycling, running and spending time with family.

Scott Reid

Job Titles:
  • Design Manager
Design Manager | BSc Hons Arch (First Class) Architecture / MArch (Distinction) Scott graduated from the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, Aberdeen for which he was awarded the John B Johnstone Award for best student in 2006. Scott Joined MAKAR in 2004 and has worked on a large number of projects during his years at MAKAR. In 2008 Scott gained 9 months experience working for HKR architects in Dublin, where he worked as part of the design team on a number of large mixed use projects.

Sean Allen

Job Titles:
  • Production Supervisor
Sean joined Makar in 2015 after completing a four-year apprenticeship, which included advanced joinery and carpentry. He chose to work at Makar because he shared in our belief of a higher standard of housing that works with the environment surrounding us and building ecological and forward thinking construction that other companies simply do not do in Scotland or the UK as a whole. Sean is a workshop supervisor at Makar who also works alongside the design and technical team to keep quality standards as high as possible. Out of the workshop, Sean enjoys an active and social lifestyle which includes many pastimes: walking and cycling, making small items of furniture and clocks, reading and watching films. He's also a passionate rugby fan and relishes the opportunity to watch Edinburgh and the Scottish rugby union teams as well as attending games when he can.

Steven Martin

Job Titles:
  • Project Manager
Steven, who holds a Masters Degree in Architecture, has been with Makar since 2013. Initially in the Design Team, he saw an opportunity to advance his knowledge with hands-on experience, and moved to the role of Projects Manager in 2015. Steven keeps himself busy at home as well as at work; fishing, wild swimming and working on his own small holding which he is trying to rewild. He has a real interest in growing things, whether it is his own fruit and veg, or native trees, he's always kept busy - especially if his little daughter is involved!
