Our vision is to be an apex body in the region responsible for sustainable development and management of aquaculture and inland fisheries to ensure food security in order to improve the quality of life of the people... Our mission is to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of rural societies through alleviation of poverty by increasing freshwater and brackish water fish production and introducing new technologies for utilization of aquatic resources for small, medium and large scale enterprise development... The National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA) coming under the purview of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources was established in 1999 by the Parliamentary Act (No. 53 of 1998). It is the main state sponsored organization mandated the development of the aquaculture and inland fisheries sector in Sri Lanka.
